Windows Errors? Fix Them Before They Spread
Repair common Windows errors and clear accumulated junk for a smoother, more stable PC - no reinstall needed.Free scan · no reinstallCrashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches?
Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteTo loop several short clips as a YouTube Live broadcast, create a playlist in OBS using a VLC Video Source, enable Loop Playlist, and send the scene to YouTube with an encoder stream key. That repeats the clips in the live feed; YouTube’s playlist-repeat button only repeats playback for viewers. No setting guarantees that every file boundary will be gap-free, so test the full sequence and inspect the Live Control Room preview before going public.
Choose the right OBS source
Use a VLC Video Source for multiple clips and a Media Source for a single looping file. VLC must be installed for the VLC source to work. OBS notes that 64-bit OBS requires 64-bit VLC.
| What you want to play | OBS source | Loop control | What to know |
|---|---|---|---|
| One video file | Media Source | Enable Loop | OBS restarts the file after it finishes. |
| Several clips in sequence | VLC Video Source | Enable Loop Playlist | OBS enables playlist looping by default; Shuffle Playlist is off by default, so clips play in list order unless you change it. |
These behaviors are documented by the OBS Project in its Media Sources guide.
Build and test the clip playlist in OBS
- Install VLC before configuring the source. Match its architecture to OBS: if you use 64-bit OBS, install 64-bit VLC.
- Create a scene for the live feed. In OBS, add a VLC Video Source and add the short clips in the order you want them played. Keep Shuffle Playlist off if order matters.
- Check the loop option. Confirm Loop Playlist is enabled. It is on by default according to OBS, but verify it rather than relying on defaults.
- Play through the entire list. Watch each clip and every transition, including the final clip returning to the first. Check picture and audio in OBS. If you have only one file, use Media Source and enable Loop instead.
- Keep a rendered fallback available. Do not make a source that unloads while hidden the only picture source for a critical transition. OBS warns that enabling Close file when inactive can result in a short period with no picture while the source reloads when shown again. A cover scene or already-rendered background can conceal an operational reload interval; it will not repair a gap within the video itself.
Connect OBS to YouTube Live
- In YouTube Studio, open the Live Control Room and create or select an encoder stream. YouTube’s encoder setup guide explains the stream workflow.
- Copy the stream URL and stream key from the stream setup and enter them in OBS’s streaming settings. Treat the stream key like a password: do not share or publish it.
- Start streaming from OBS and wait for the incoming picture to appear in YouTube’s Live Control Room preview. Start or schedule the event as appropriate for your setup.
- Before the public broadcast, test the entire playlist and monitor audio and video in the preview. YouTube Help says, “Make sure to test before you start your live stream,” and advises creators to check the preview and monitor stream quality.

Set encoder output for YouTube
Choose settings to match the resolution and frame rate you intend to send. For YouTube’s documented RTMP/RTMPS settings, the supported codecs include H.264; YouTube specifies CBR and recommends RTMPS. Its current guidance recommends a 2-second keyframe interval, which should not exceed 4 seconds. Bitrate varies by codec, resolution, and frame rate, so use the matching row rather than applying one bitrate to every stream.
| H.264 output | YouTube minimum bitrate | YouTube recommended bitrate |
|---|---|---|
| 1080p at 30 fps | 5 Mbps | 14 Mbps |
| 1080p at 60 fps | 6 Mbps | 17 Mbps |
| 720p at 30 fps | 3 Mbps | 8 Mbps |
These are YouTube’s encoder-ingestion recommendations, not measurements of OBS playback or a guarantee of uninterrupted transitions. Check the full settings table for your target output in YouTube’s encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions guide.

What prevents black frames—and what does not
Loop and Loop Playlist determine what happens when a file or playlist reaches its end. The cited OBS and YouTube documentation does not promise frame-perfect, gap-free transitions across every file, codec, frame rate, or duration. A checked loop box therefore is not proof that there will be no black frame.
- Test the actual files as one complete sequence, paying particular attention to clip endings and the playlist wrap from last to first.
- Inspect the incoming YouTube preview as well as the OBS canvas. A problem in the delivered stream may not be apparent from checking playlist settings alone.
- Use a cover scene or other already-rendered background as an operational fallback during source reloads. It cannot remove a black interval already present inside a clip or at a media boundary.
- Do not confuse YouTube’s viewer-side playlist repeat control with a creator’s live broadcast. The viewer control repeats videos in YouTube’s player; an encoder must send the clip sequence as the live feed.
OBS describes the source behavior in its Media Sources guide; YouTube explains encoder streams and viewer playlist looping separately in its encoder guide and playlist-looping help.

Troubleshoot a black frame or failed loop
| Symptom | Likely check | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| VLC Video Source is missing or does not play the clips | VLC may not be installed or may not match OBS architecture. | Install VLC and ensure 64-bit OBS is paired with 64-bit VLC, then reopen or reconfigure the source. |
| The list plays in an unexpected order | Shuffle Playlist may be enabled. | Turn Shuffle Playlist off and verify the clip order in the source list. |
| The playlist stops after the last clip | Loop Playlist may be disabled. | Enable Loop Playlist and test through the return from the final clip to the first. |
| Picture disappears after a hidden source is shown | Close file when inactive may have unloaded the media source. | Avoid relying on that source as the sole output during a critical transition; use a cover scene and test the reload behavior. |
| Black frame appears at a clip boundary | The loop setting does not establish that the files have gap-free boundaries. | Review that transition in the source and Live Control Room preview. Check the media itself and test the actual complete playlist; retain a fallback scene for operational recovery. |
| YouTube preview does not receive the feed | Check that the correct encoder stream URL and stream key are entered and that OBS is sending. | Compare OBS’s stream configuration with the selected YouTube Studio stream and wait for the preview; test before starting the public event. |
| Stream quality is unstable or the image is poor | Output resolution, frame rate, codec, bitrate, keyframe interval, and available upload capacity all matter. | Use YouTube’s matching bitrate recommendation, CBR, a 2-second keyframe interval (not over 4 seconds), and RTMPS where configured. Test and monitor the incoming stream. |
Or let it run in the cloud
If your goal is a YouTube channel that keeps looping uploaded clips without leaving a home computer on, StreamNeo runs the stream from the cloud: upload your recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. It is YouTube-only and plays uploaded video, not a camera feed.
