If you need a full-page screenshot of a website on Windows, start with your browser’s built-in capture: the reviewed Windows guide describes full-page capture in Edge and Firefox, while Chrome users can use DevTools or an extension. For long content inside a separate Windows application, use a scrolling-capture desktop app instead. GoFullPage remains useful for many web pages, but its own FAQ says it cannot access PDFs and may not work on sites that use custom JavaScript scrolling.
Choose a tool based on what you need to capture
Full-page screenshots and scrolling screenshots are not all the same job. A browser’s page-capture feature can capture a website beyond the visible viewport; it does not automatically capture a long chat, document, or settings window in another Windows application.
| What you need to capture | Start with | Important limitation |
|---|---|---|
| A straightforward website in Edge or Firefox | The browser’s built-in full-page capture | Nested scrolling panels, sticky elements, or content loaded during scrolling can affect the result. |
| A website in Chrome | DevTools’ “Capture full size screenshot” command, or a capture extension for a simpler workflow | The reviewed Windows guide identifies these routes; it is not Chrome’s official documentation. |
| A website needing crop, annotation, blur, or PDF export | An extension such as OpenCapture | Its processing and feature descriptions are project claims, not an independent security audit. |
| A long window in a non-browser Windows application | A scrolling-capture desktop app such as ShareX, PicPick, or Snagit | Stitching frames can repeat fixed headers or misalign content that changes while scrolling. |
| A website screenshot in an automated workflow | ScreenshotNeo’s website screenshot API | It captures web pages, not arbitrary Windows application windows. |
Ordinary screen snips—including Win+Shift+S, Print Screen, and Snipping Tool—capture what is visible; they do not scroll through the page for you.
Use the browser’s built-in full-page capture first
Microsoft Edge
A Windows guide from the FullPage Capture vendor describes opening Edge’s Screenshot action with Ctrl+Shift+S or from the browser menu, choosing an area or full-page capture, then using the viewer to copy or save the PNG. It also describes basic pen and eraser tools. Because these are instructions from a secondary guide rather than Microsoft documentation, menu names and behavior may differ in your installed Edge version.

Mozilla Firefox
The same guide describes right-clicking the page, choosing “Take Screenshot,” then “Save full page.” It says Firefox can download the PNG or copy it to the clipboard. Check the menu labels in your installed Firefox version; the guide warns of similar issues with inner scrolling regions and images that appear only as the page scrolls.
Google Chrome
The guide identifies Chrome DevTools’ “Capture full size screenshot” command as a built-in option. It is a practical route if opening DevTools is acceptable. If you want a more direct browser workflow, or the page’s scrolling behavior defeats the built-in capture, consider an extension instead.

OpenCapture
OpenCapture describes whole-page, visible-area, and selected-region capture, along with cropping, annotation, blur, watermarking, and PNG or PDF export. Its project says image processing happens locally in the browser, that the code is AGPL-3.0-or-later, and that the extension is available for Chrome, Edge, and Firefox. Its website says all features other than tiled watermarking are free. Treat those as project statements, not as an independent privacy or security assessment. Verify current availability, permissions, and licensing before installing or using it in a managed environment.
GoFullPage
GoFullPage’s FAQ says the extension scrolls through a page and assembles viewport captures into one image. It also says the extension cannot access PDFs and may fail on sites that control scrolling through custom JavaScript. Those limitations matter when choosing an alternative: PDFs generally need a PDF-specific workflow, while custom scrolling pages may need a different capture method or manual verification.

The Chrome Web Store listing displayed GoFullPage version 8.9 dated September 24, 2026, and its changelog records earlier fixes involving scrolling, frames, and PDF exports. Store information can change, so check the listing for the current version and release notes before relying on a particular fix.
Capture long content outside a browser
If the target is a chat client, settings page, or document viewer rather than a website, a browser extension is the wrong category of tool. The reviewed Windows guide names ShareX and PicPick as free scrolling-capture options and Snagit as paid software. These tools scroll a window and stitch captured frames; the guide warns that fixed headers may be repeated and changing content may not align cleanly. Check each product’s official documentation for current support, licensing, and instructions before installing it.

Check the screenshot before you rely on it
Full-page capture works best when the page scrolls normally and content is available as the browser moves through it. A long screenshot can still be incomplete or awkward when a site uses an inner scrolling panel, sticky headers, or lazy-loaded images. GoFullPage’s FAQ also flags PDFs and custom JavaScript scrolling as limitations.
- Open the image at full size and inspect the top, middle, and bottom for missing sections or duplicated content.
- Check whether images, charts, or other content loaded only after scrolling are present.
- Look for repeated sticky headers, seams, jumps, or overlapping sections where capture frames were joined.
- If a page uses its own inner scrollbar, try capturing that region separately or use a capture method suited to the site’s scrolling behavior.
- For PDF content, use a PDF workflow rather than assuming a browser extension can capture the document.
Or skip the browser setup
For automated screenshots of websites, ScreenshotNeo offers a one-request API. It is not a replacement for capturing a long window in a desktop application.
See the ScreenshotNeo API documentation.
curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://example.com -o shot.webp
ScreenshotNeo removes cookie and consent banners, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before capture; those steps can be turned off. Bot checks, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits are not billed, and the response identifies the page verdict and billing status in headers. An MCP server provides screenshot tools for AI agents, including Claude, Cursor, and other MCP clients. The free plan includes 1,000 shots per month with no card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000 shots.

Which alternative should you choose?
- For a simple website, try the browser’s native full-page capture first.
- For editing or exporting a capture as PDF, review an extension such as OpenCapture and verify its current permissions and availability.
- For a web page that a browser workflow cannot capture reliably, test another capture method and inspect the output rather than assuming the stitch is complete.
- For a long non-browser window, choose a desktop scrolling-capture application.
- For repeatable website captures in scripts or AI-agent workflows, try ScreenshotNeo first: it removes common overlays before capture and bills only clean shots.
Frequently Asked Questions
Will a full-page screenshot include content hidden behind a page’s own scroll panel?
Not necessarily. A page-level capture may follow the browser window’s scroll rather than a nested panel’s independent scrollbar. Capture the panel separately or try another method, then inspect the result.
Can I capture a PDF with GoFullPage?
GoFullPage’s FAQ says it cannot access PDFs. Use a PDF-specific export or capture workflow instead.
Are browser extensions suitable for capturing a long Windows application window?
No. Browser extensions capture browser content; use a desktop scrolling-capture tool for long content in another application.
