To capture Chrome on Ubuntu, take the screenshot in the Ubuntu desktop: focus the Chrome window, press Print, choose a window, screen, or selection, then complete the capture. Ubuntu saves the image in Pictures/Screenshots and copies it to the clipboard. If you mean a full webpage—including content below the fold—use Chrome DevTools’ full-size screenshot command instead; that command is a community-documented tip and may vary by Chrome version.
This works whether Ubuntu runs on your Windows PC or you reach a separate Ubuntu computer remotely. The important distinction is where the screenshot is taken: a capture in Ubuntu shows the page itself, while a Windows screenshot of the remote session may include the remote-client frame.
Take a screenshot of the visible Chrome window on Ubuntu
- Open the website in Chrome on Ubuntu and bring the Chrome window to the front.
- Press Print on the Ubuntu desktop. Ubuntu’s screenshot overlay opens.
- Choose the capture scope: select Window for Chrome alone, Selection for a specific area, or Screen for the whole display.
- Complete the capture in the overlay. Ubuntu documents that the image is saved in your home folder under
Pictures/Screenshots, with a filename beginning with “Screenshot” and including the date and time. It is also copied to the clipboard, so you can paste it into an editor or message.
This captures rendered pixels currently visible on the screen. A window or selection capture does not automatically include webpage content below the fold.

Chrome’s DevTools command menu has a “capture full size screenshot” option according to a Google Chrome Community response posted March 6, 2025. It is a community-sourced tip, not a guarantee that the command is available in every Chrome build.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches#1 Best Overall
- 14" diagonal, 1366x768 resolution, HD BrightView LED, Glossy NON-TOUCH Display
- Open the page in Chrome on Ubuntu.
- Open Developer Tools with Ctrl+Shift+I or F12. Google’s official shortcut reference lists these as Developer Tools shortcuts on Windows and Linux.
- Press Ctrl+Shift+P to open the DevTools command menu.
- Search for
capture full size screenshotand choose the matching command if it appears. - Check Chrome’s download location for the resulting image.
If the command does not appear, your Chrome version or DevTools state may differ. You can use the visible-window method for what is currently on screen, or print the page to PDF if a document is suitable. To print, press Ctrl+P and choose a destination and print settings. Printing is a PDF/document alternative, not an image screenshot.
If Ubuntu is on a separate computer
You can connect from Windows using Chrome Remote Desktop if remote access is set up on the Ubuntu computer. Google documents Linux as a supported host. From the Windows PC, visit remotedesktop.google.com/access, select the Ubuntu computer, and enter its PIN. Google says remote sessions are fully encrypted.

Once connected, take the screenshot in the Ubuntu desktop session using the steps above. Keyboard forwarding depends on the remote client and session; Google’s instructions do not specifically promise that pressing the Windows keyboard’s Print Screen key will open Ubuntu’s screenshot overlay. If it does not, use Ubuntu’s system-menu screenshot control or the remote interface’s capture controls if available. A Windows screenshot of the remote-client window is a different result: it can include client framing and may show only the currently visible remote viewport.

For an image capture without arranging a local browser workflow, ScreenshotNeo takes a URL in one request and returns an image. It accepts cookie/consent banners before capture and removes known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets; each of those steps can be turned off. Bot checks, blank pages, timeouts, and failed loads are not billed, and cache hits cost nothing. Troubleshooting
- Print does not open the Ubuntu screenshot overlay: confirm that Chrome is focused and that you are pressing the key in the Ubuntu desktop, not the Windows desktop. On older Ubuntu releases or customized desktops, shortcut assignments may differ; use the system menu’s screenshot control if available.
- The saved file is not where expected: check the home folder’s
Pictures/Screenshotsdirectory. Ubuntu’s documented path applies to its current stable help; older releases or customized setups may behave differently. - The screenshot cuts off the bottom of the page: the Ubuntu screen/window capture only records visible pixels. Use the DevTools full-size screenshot command if it is available in your Chrome build.
- “Capture full size screenshot” is missing: the procedure comes from a community response, so availability is not assured across Chrome versions. Use a visible screenshot or print to PDF instead.
- Print Screen in the remote session captures Windows instead: the key may be handled by Windows or the remote client. Use Ubuntu’s screenshot control within the remote session, or an available capture feature in the remote interface.
