Take a full-page screenshot with Selenium and Firefox
This Python example opens a page in Firefox, saves a full-document PNG to the current Mac user’s Desktop, and checks whether Selenium reports that it saved successfully:

The Desktop path above is built from the home directory of the Mac account running the script. This is documentation-based guidance, not a claim that the example was executed on a Mac. Selenium’s Firefox WebDriver API reference documents the method and says it returns False if an I/O error occurs.
Install and run the script
Install Selenium in the Python environment you intend to use:

The Selenium API reference documents the screenshot call; configure and install a compatible Firefox browser and WebDriver setup for your environment if the browser does not start. What the method captures
A full-page capture includes document regions outside the current browser window. That is different from an ordinary viewport screenshot, which only shows the currently visible area. Mozilla’s Firefox screenshot documentation describes full-page capture in terms of content beyond the window bounds.
Use screenshot data without writing a file
If your next step needs image data rather than a file on disk, Selenium’s Firefox API also documents methods that return full-page screenshot data as PNG bytes or as a base64 string. Use the API reference for the exact method names and return types for your installed Selenium version: Firefox WebDriver API. The file-saving method in the main example is the simpler option when you want a PNG on your Mac.

Can Selenium Safari take a full-page screenshot?
Apple identifies Safari’s WebDriver driver as safaridriver and documents Safari automation through WebDriver. However, the cited Selenium Safari API reference documents save_screenshot() for the current window; it does not document a corresponding full-page method. Do not assume that a current-window screenshot call captures the whole document. For the explicitly documented Selenium full-document workflow described here, Firefox is the clearer option.
Check page readiness before capture
The screenshot API documentation establishes capture scope and output methods, but does not promise that every dynamic page state will be represented exactly as expected. A page may still be populating content when the capture runs; for pages that load content as you scroll, verify the required content is present before capturing. Also inspect the resulting image if animations or sticky elements affect the appearance you need. These are practical checks, not guarantees about how Selenium or Firefox handles each page.
Troubleshooting
- The browser does not start: Confirm Firefox is available and that Selenium can start a compatible WebDriver in your Mac environment. The cited API pages do not specify setup requirements for each Mac or browser version.
- No file appears: Use an absolute path to a directory the running Mac account can write to, keep the filename’s
.pngextension, and check the boolean result. Selenium documentsFalsefor an I/O error in the file-saving method. - The image only shows what was on screen: Confirm the script calls Firefox’s
get_full_page_screenshot_as_file(), rather than a generic current-window screenshot method. - Some page content is missing or in an unexpected state: Check that the page has finished loading the content you need before capturing. The cited API references do not establish behavior for lazy-loaded images, animations, or sticky elements.

With the local Selenium approach, the example saves a file on your Mac and does not involve a screenshot-service request. You need the browser and WebDriver setup to work in that environment. The API documentation describes an I/O failure result, but the cited sources provide no benchmark for capture speed or guarantee for arbitrary dynamic sites. If repeatability matters, verify the saved file and page state for the particular site you are capturing.
