No official cancellation has been announced. The latest news is a former Dragon Age producer’s personal assessment that a new game may be difficult to pitch at EA—not a statement from EA or BioWare that the series is over. Video Games Chronicle reported Mark Darrah’s comments on July 27, 2026.
What is the Dragon Age update?
Darrah, a former BioWare veteran who spent 23 years at the studio and served as an executive producer on the series, said he did not know who at BioWare could pitch another Dragon Age game to EA. As quoted by VGC, he said, “I have no concept of who could, would, possibly pitch [a new Dragon Age] at EA.” He also said, “I suspect that it wouldn’t happen for a variety of reasons.”
Those remarks describe his view of the obstacles to proposing a game based on existing intellectual property. They are not an EA or BioWare announcement, and they do not establish that the companies have made a final decision about the franchise. The quotes are attributed to Darrah by VGC, which reported that they came from an interview with FRVR.
Is Dragon Age canceled?
No cancellation is confirmed by the statements or official updates cited here. Darrah was discussing the likelihood of someone pitching a future game, not revealing a confirmed decision by EA. He also observed that “EA owns a frightening number of IPs that are dormant,” as quoted by VGC; that general observation is not a declaration about Dragon Age’s status.

VGC reported that BioWare is working on another Mass Effect game. That is relevant context, but the report does not establish that Mass Effect work is the company-confirmed reason a new Dragon Age has not been announced.
What is the latest Dragon Age game?
Dragon Age: The Veilguard is the latest released entry identified in the reporting. EA announced its worldwide launch for October 31, 2024, on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC through Steam, the EA app, and the Epic Games Store. BioWare described it as a single-player game with a new lead hero and seven companions. The previous series entry was Dragon Age: Inquisition, released in 2014, according to VGC.

A game update and news about the franchise’s future are different things. EA’s official news index lists The Veilguard Patch 5 release notes dated January 23, 2025, as its newest listed game update. That index entry is not a new sequel announcement, and an index’s latest listed patch does not by itself prove that no other announcement exists elsewhere.
