Start with the alert library built into your streaming platform or alert software: Twitch offers default alert assets and custom uploads, while Streamlabs has alert themes and a sound gallery. For distinctive branding, commission original artwork. GIF and sound-effect sites can broaden your choices, but a file being available online does not mean you have permission to use it.
Where to find alert graphics and sounds
Built-in libraries in your alert software
Streamlabs points users to its Desktop Media Library for alert themes and offers a sound gallery with free and premium choices. Some premium sounds are associated with Streamlabs Ultra; check Streamlabs’ current product information for what is included in each plan. Its guide describes hundreds of free themes, but availability can change. See Streamlabs’ alert asset guide.
Twitch’s default assets and Asset Library
If you stream on Twitch, start with Twitch’s built-in defaults or upload your own images and sounds through its Asset Library. This keeps the process close to the platform where the alerts will appear. Twitch’s alert customization documentation covers asset requirements and rights.
Commission custom artwork
A commission can give your channel a more distinctive look. Streamlabs names Etsy and Fiverr as example places to find artists. Before paying, agree in writing on whether the license permits live broadcasts, saved VODs, clips, and commercial use. Marketplace listings do not establish those rights by themselves, and terms vary by creator.

Browse GIF and sound-effect libraries
Streamlabs names Giphy and other GIF sites as places to discover visuals, and Free Sound, Sound Bible, and AudioMicro as sound-effect sources. Treat these as discovery resources, not blanket licenses: check the specific file’s license and intended-use terms. Streamlabs recommends contacting a GIF’s author for permission when needed.
Create a GIF yourself
Streamlabs lists Giphy and Gifmaker as GIF-making tools. Making a GIF does not clear the rights to its ingredients, so confirm that you can use any underlying images or footage in a livestream and recordings.

Check permissions before you upload
Twitch requires alert images and sounds to follow its Community Guidelines and not violate third-party rights, including copyright. The ability to upload an asset is a technical feature, not evidence of permission. Keep a copy of the license or written permission with the file, and make sure it covers both the live broadcast and any recordings you publish.
For commissioned work, spell out the uses you need before the artist begins. For library assets, check the individual license rather than assuming that a free download permits streaming, monetization, or reuse in VODs and clips.

Check formats and file-size limits
Supported formats and size caps depend on the service. The figures below are the limits listed in Twitch’s alert documentation and Streamlabs’ Alert Box documentation; confirm the current help page before preparing files because requirements can change.

Twitch also lists Asset Library storage of 100 MB for non-Affiliates and non-Partners and 1 GB for Affiliates and Partners. These are Twitch-specific storage allowances, not per-file upload limits. Add the alert to your streaming software and test it
OBS Studio
- Choose an alert provider and configure the alert there. OBS Studio does not supply alerts itself; the OBS Project recommends using a third-party provider.
- In OBS, add the provider’s overlay as a Browser Source. Use the provider’s instructions for its widget or overlay URL and settings.
- Trigger a test alert before going live. Confirm that the visual appears where you expect and that its sound is audible in the stream mix.

Streamlabs Desktop or plugin
- In Streamlabs Desktop, add an Alert Box source and configure the alert assets.
- With the Streamlabs plugin in OBS, add its Alert Box widget.
- In other supported software, copy the Streamlabs widget URL into a Browser Source.
- Test the alert and check both its image and sound in the output mix before starting the broadcast.
