Give every localized page its own Open Graph metadata and preview image, set a locale that reflects the page, and verify that the generated image renders the intended Indian script correctly. UTF-8 preserves multilingual text, but it does not by itself guarantee correct font shaping in an image generator.
Set Open Graph metadata for each localized page
Treat each language URL as a distinct shareable page. The Open Graph protocol identifies four required properties: og:title, og:type, og:image and og:url. The title, canonical page URL and image should correspond to that specific localized page. See the Open Graph protocol.
For example, a Hindi article and its English equivalent should each have their own title, URL and suitable image. A minimal head section might look like this:

Choose the locale for the page
og:locale is optional metadata in language_TERRITORY form; the protocol documents en_US as the default. Set a page-appropriate value when its language and territory are known instead of leaving a default that misstates the page. If other locale versions exist, og:locale:alternate can list them. Locale metadata describes the page to graph consumers; it does not translate content or guarantee a particular social preview.
Add useful image metadata
The protocol also supports og:image:type, og:image:width, og:image:height and og:image:alt. Provide accurate values for the image you actually publish, and write alt text that describes the image rather than repeating a caption. These properties do not establish a universal image size requirement across social platforms.

Connect translated versions with hreflang
For localized equivalents, Google supports alternate-language annotations in HTML, HTTP headers or sitemaps; its documentation describes these methods as equivalent and says using one is usually easier to manage. Every variant should identify itself and all its alternates using fully qualified URLs. The references must be reciprocal: if two pages do not point to each other, Google says it will ignore the annotations. See Google’s localized-versions guidance.

Use language-region codes that accurately represent the versions. Keep the roles distinct: hreflang indicates relationships between localized pages for Google, while og:locale describes locale metadata for Open Graph consumers. Google also says it does not use hreflang or the HTML lang attribute to detect a page’s language.
Generate images that preserve the target script
Use UTF-8 for the page and for text passed to the image-generation process. Unicode recommends UTF-8 for web pages and states, “You should always use UTF-8.” See the Unicode and the Web FAQ. Encoding is necessary for reliable text transfer, but it is not proof that a particular font or renderer will shape every Indic script correctly.

Choose a font with the required glyph coverage, then render and inspect the actual output before publishing. Review the target language’s conjuncts, vowel signs, marks, clipping, line breaks and font fallback. These are practical visual checks, not a certified compatibility test: there is no established script-by-script guarantee for every renderer and font combination.
Choose a generation approach
You can publish static image files per page or generate images dynamically through a framework route or separate generator. Choose based on whether your deployment supports the approach, whether it can load the necessary font, whether deployed images are fetchable by social crawlers, and how easily you can inspect the output. Validate the image and the deployed preview
- Render the page’s real text. Use the target language, font and production generation path rather than relying on a Latin-script sample.
- Inspect the image itself. Check shaping, glyph coverage, marks, line breaks, clipping and fallback behavior at the final output size.
- Check the metadata. Confirm that the title, URL, image URL, locale and optional image descriptors match the localized page.
- Verify after deployment. Use the target platform’s preview or debugging workflow when available, and inspect the actual share card. Platform dimensions, crops, cache behavior and rendering can vary; the protocol metadata alone does not settle them.
