You can stream gameplay directly from either a PS5 or a PS4 to YouTube—no capture card or computer is required. On PS5, press the controller’s Create button and choose Broadcast; on PS4, link YouTube in Settings, then press SHARE in a game and choose Broadcast Gameplay. Before you start, make sure your YouTube channel is eligible to livestream.

Check YouTube eligibility first

A console can be set up correctly and still be blocked from going live by YouTube account requirements. YouTube requires a verified channel with no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days, and its current guidance requires creators to be at least 16 years old. YouTube’s live-streaming requirements explain the eligibility rules.

  • Confirm that the YouTube channel is verified and has livestreaming enabled.
  • Check that the account has no live-streaming restriction within the last 90 days.
  • Make sure the creator meets YouTube’s age requirement. PlayStation also says child accounts cannot broadcast. PlayStation’s broadcast troubleshooting guidance covers console-side restrictions.

If YouTube asks for verification when you try to broadcast, sign in to the same YouTube account in a web browser and start live streaming there, then return to the console. If the prompt persists, unlink YouTube from your PlayStation account and link it again.

Stream from a PS5

  1. Link your YouTube account to your PlayStation account. You can do this the first time you start a broadcast or from the PS5 home screen. The Broadcast card in Control Center indicates whether a service is linked.
  2. While in a game, press the controller’s Create button and select Broadcast.
  3. Select YouTube, then enter the broadcast information requested on screen.
  4. Open Broadcast Options if you want to configure camera video or party audio. Both are optional.
  5. Select Go Live. The broadcast card appears in Control Center while you are live.

To set defaults, go to Settings > Captures and Broadcasts > Broadcasts. Options include video quality, audio, camera, overlays, and chat-to-speech. Available resolutions vary by streaming service, so do not assume every quality option is available for every setup. Some game scenes may not be shown to viewers. See PlayStation’s PS5 broadcast instructions for the current console workflow.

  3. Start the game you want to stream, press the controller’s SHARE button, and choose Broadcast Gameplay.

PlayStation warns streamers to avoid showing sensitive personal information, such as a real name or address. The button path and settings are described in PlayStation’s PS4 broadcast instructions.

Camera, microphone, and party audio are optional

You can broadcast gameplay without appearing on camera. On PS5, camera video and microphone or party audio are configurable broadcast options, not prerequisites. If you include party audio, tell the other players first so they know their voices may be shared with viewers. PlayStation’s PS5 broadcast guidance describes the available options. PlayStation’s HD Camera (CFI-ZEY series) is an optional, separately sold camera for appearing in a PS5 broadcast; the console can stream gameplay without it. PlayStation HD Camera information.

What stream quality can you expect?

Do not treat a resolution or frame rate as guaranteed for every console, service, and network. PlayStation says PS5 resolution options vary by service. For PS4 Pro, PlayStation documents broadcasting at up to 1080p at 60 frames per second, depending on the service and bandwidth; HDR broadcasting is not supported. That PS4 Pro ceiling should not be applied to every PS4 model or every connection. PlayStation’s broadcast guidance.

PlayStation and YouTube do not specify a universal upload-speed threshold or bitrate for this direct-console workflow. Use the quality options actually shown on your console, and if the stream stutters, try a lower available quality or improve the connection rather than relying on a speed figure that may not match your setup.

Troubleshoot a broadcast that will not start

  1. Check YouTube eligibility. Verify the channel, livestreaming access, account standing, and age requirements. If prompted, start live streaming on YouTube in a browser using the same account, then retry on the console.
  2. Confirm the linked account. Make sure the PlayStation account is linked to the YouTube channel you intend to use. If verification has already been completed and the console still rejects the connection, unlink and link YouTube again.
  3. Check PlayStation service status. A service interruption can prevent broadcasting. Review the PlayStation Network status page.
  4. Test the console’s connection. On PS5, go to Settings > Network > Connection Status > Test Internet Connection. If the connection is unstable, address that before changing broadcast settings.
  5. Update system software. Install available console updates, then try broadcasting again.
  6. Use advanced recovery steps only if needed. PlayStation also lists restoring licenses and refreshing Console Sharing and Offline Play among possible PS5 recovery steps. Try these only after checking eligibility, service status, software, and network connectivity. Follow PlayStation’s broadcast troubleshooting steps.
