To livestream from an Android phone or tablet, open the YouTube app, tap Create → Live, edit your stream details, and tap Go live. YouTube requires at least 50 subscribers, a verified channel, live streaming enabled, no live-streaming restrictions in the past 90 days, and Android 8.0 or newer. First-time activation can take up to 24 hours.
Check whether your channel and device are eligible
YouTube’s mobile live-streaming requirements are:
- Your channel has at least 50 subscribers.
- Your channel is verified.
- Live streaming is enabled for the channel.
- The channel has had no live-streaming restrictions in the past 90 days.
- Your Android phone or tablet runs Android 8.0 or newer.
If this is your first time enabling live streaming, YouTube says activation may take up to 24 hours. Having 50 subscribers does not necessarily make the Live option appear immediately. For the current requirements, see YouTube’s Android mobile live-streaming instructions.
Start a live stream in the YouTube Android app
- Open the YouTube app on your Android phone or tablet and sign in to the channel you want to use.
- Tap Create, then tap Live.
- Tap Edit to set up the stream. Choose its title and visibility, set the audience option, and, if needed, schedule it for later or choose to screencast your phone’s screen.
- Review the details, then tap Go live to begin broadcasting.
- When you are finished, tap Finish to end the stream.
After you finish, YouTube displays a recap with stream statistics and creates an archive on your channel. You can later change the archive’s privacy setting or delete it.

Schedule a mobile livestream
- In the YouTube app, tap Create → Live.
- Tap the calendar icon and select the scheduled stream.
- When you are ready to broadcast, tap Go live.
Choose who can see the stream and its archive
You can set a mobile stream’s visibility to public, private, or unlisted while editing its details. YouTube’s default mobile live-stream privacy setting is unlisted for users aged 13–17 and public for users aged 18 or older.
Channels with more than 50 but fewer than 1,000 subscribers may have a limit on the number of viewers for mobile livestreams, and their archived streams default to private. Changes after reaching 1,000 subscribers can take several weeks to appear, including removal of the audience limitation. A channel does not lose mobile live-stream access solely because it falls below 1,000 subscribers; YouTube says access is not lost unless the channel falls below 50 subscribers.

If the Live option is missing
- Check the subscriber threshold. The channel needs at least 50 subscribers for mobile live streaming.
- Confirm verification. Make sure the channel is verified.
- Check live-streaming access. Live streaming must be enabled. If you have just enabled it for the first time, allow up to 24 hours for activation.
- Review restrictions. A live-streaming restriction within the previous 90 days can make the channel ineligible.
- Check the Android version. The device must run Android 8.0 or newer.
- Allow time for subscriber-related changes. If the channel has recently crossed 1,000 subscribers, viewer-limit and archive changes may take several weeks.
What to know before you broadcast
The YouTube mobile instructions cover starting, scheduling, visibility, screencasting, and ending a stream, but do not specify a required internet speed, recommended resolution or frame rate, or battery-life estimate. Those needs can vary with the device, connection, and stream. You do not need a separate encoder for the documented in-app process; YouTube’s instructions do not establish a need for extra camera, lighting, or audio equipment.
Before going public, choose the audience and visibility carefully, and make sure you have the rights to anything you show or play. Live access does not grant permission to use copyrighted music or video. If you plan a continuous channel stream using prerecorded material rather than a live phone camera, review YouTube’s applicable policies and the copyright safety checklist.
