To stream pre-recorded videos as one YouTube Live event in a specific order, use an encoder or streaming service with an ordered playback queue, then connect it to a YouTube Live event using that event’s stream URL and key. YouTube’s documented encoder workflow explains how to send a stream to Live Control Room, but does not describe a built-in YouTube feature for queuing multiple videos as a live playlist. The playback tool—not an ordinary YouTube channel playlist—must control the sequence. YouTube’s encoder instructions and its list of prerecorded-media tools are useful starting points; verify the tool’s current queue controls and test the complete setup before going public.

What you need for an ordered YouTube Live stream

A YouTube Live event is a broadcast sent to YouTube by an encoder. The encoder plays your files in sequence and sends the resulting video and audio feed to the event. A regular YouTube playlist organizes uploaded videos for viewers to watch individually; it does not, by itself, turn those videos into a continuous live broadcast.

YouTube describes an encoder as software or hardware that converts video into a digital format for streaming. The encoder or service you choose must supply the ordered playback function: confirm that you can load multiple files, set their order, and determine what happens between files and after the final item. A tool that supports prerecorded streaming does not necessarily offer the exact queue behavior you need.

Choose a playback route

  • Local encoder: You control playback on your own computer or encoder. Plan for that equipment and the connection to remain available while the stream runs.
  • Cloud playback service: The service plays uploaded files and sends the stream from its infrastructure. Check its current queue, scheduling, transition, monitoring, recovery, availability, and pricing details directly with the provider.

YouTube’s encoder documentation names Gyre as a cloud tool for 24/7 prerecorded YouTube streaming and describes AJA PlayToStream functionality for scheduling prerecorded media. Those mentions are not confirmation that every current version, plan, geography, or configuration supports a particular ordered queue. Verify the exact feature with the vendor and rehearse it before relying on it.

Check channel eligibility and prepare the event

Before setting up the playlist, check that your channel is eligible to livestream. YouTube says channels must be verified and must not have live-streaming restrictions in the past 90 days. Its eligibility guidance can change, so consult YouTube’s live-streaming requirements if the option is unavailable.

  1. In YouTube Studio, open Live Control Room and create a stream or schedule one for later. Enter the event details, including its title and intended audience.
  2. Choose the event’s privacy setting. YouTube’s stream settings include public, private, and unlisted options; choose one appropriate for your rehearsal or broadcast. See Manage live stream settings.
  3. Open the stream settings and copy the event’s stream URL and stream key. Treat the key like a password: enter it only in your encoder or service and do not publish it.

YouTube documents RTMP and RTMPS encoder settings and recommends RTMPS for encrypted ingestion. Follow the encoder’s YouTube connection instructions and use the event’s URL and key. The relevant encoder settings guidance covers connection and recommended stream settings.

Load the files in the order you want

Queue management is specific to the playback tool. In its playlist or scheduling controls, add each video and arrange the entries from first to last. Before starting, verify the queue against a written running order rather than assuming that upload order, filename, or a YouTube playlist determines broadcast order.

Check the sequence and transitions

  • Confirm every file is ready and appears in the intended position.
  • Check audio levels and picture at the start, middle, and end of representative files.
  • Find out whether the tool cuts directly between files, inserts a slate, leaves a gap, or supports transitions. Do not assume transitions are seamless.
  • Decide what the tool should do after the last item: stop, wait, or repeat the sequence. Configure looping only if the tool supports it and that is what you intend.
  • Check the tool’s behavior if a file is unavailable or fails to play, and know how to intervene or restart playback.

Rehearse, start, and monitor the broadcast

  1. Run a private or unlisted rehearsal using the same encoder, files, and settings planned for the public event. Confirm that the intended viewers can access the event when you test its privacy settings.
  2. Start the encoder or cloud playback service and inspect the Live Control Room preview. Confirm picture, sound, and the opening item before going live. YouTube’s streaming tips recommend checking the preview before starting.
  3. For a scheduled encoder stream, start the encoder and wait for the preview to appear in Live Control Room; then click Go live. Starting the encoder and making the scheduled event live are distinct steps in YouTube’s documented workflow.
  4. While the event runs, monitor picture, audio, the playlist position, and YouTube’s stream-health messages. YouTube recommends testing representative audio and motion and monitoring stream health; see its encoder settings guidance and streaming tips.
  5. When finished, end the stream using the encoder and Live Control Room workflow, then check the recording in YouTube Studio. YouTube’s encoder instructions say streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. If your planned event is longer, confirm YouTube’s current archiving behavior before scheduling it.

Prevent copyright and playback problems

Before broadcasting, make sure you have the rights needed to use every video and its audio in a livestream. YouTube’s live-streaming access rules and stream health tools are separate from the playback queue: a correctly ordered playlist does not guarantee that YouTube will accept every item or that viewers can hear and see it as intended. Rehearse the full sequence and watch for warnings in Live Control Room.

Troubleshooting

  • No preview appears: Check that the encoder is running, the event’s stream URL and key are entered correctly, and the selected event is the one you intend to use. Wait for the preview before selecting Go live.
  • The event is not live at the scheduled time: Starting the encoder alone may not publish a scheduled event. Once the preview appears, click Go live in Live Control Room.
  • Videos play in the wrong order: Correct the queue in the encoder or service, then rehearse from the first item. YouTube’s ordinary channel playlist is not the live encoder’s playback queue.
  • A file is silent, missing, or interrupted: Check the source file and the playback tool’s file-readiness or error status. Test the affected item and its transition before restarting the event.
  • Viewers report poor or missing audio/video: Check the preview and stream-health messages, then compare the encoder’s output settings with YouTube’s current recommended encoder settings.
  • You cannot start livestreaming: Review channel verification and restriction eligibility in YouTube’s live-streaming requirements.
