Who can fundraise on YouTube?
YouTube Giving has separate requirements for the creator and the beneficiary nonprofit. Check both before building the stream around the Donate button.
Creator eligibility
YouTube lists these requirements for a channel to use YouTube Giving:
- The channel is in a location where YouTube Giving is available.
- It has at least 10,000 subscribers.
- It is a YouTube Partner Program member.
- It is not designated Made for Kids.
YouTube notes that some channels may have access outside these stated criteria. Check YouTube Studio > Earn > Giving to see whether the feature is available to your channel. YouTube Giving eligibility and availability.

Nonprofit eligibility
The beneficiary must be a US-registered 501(c)(3) Public Charity, belong to Google for Nonprofits, opt in to online fundraising through GuideStar, and comply with YouTube monetization and community policies. YouTube Giving eligibility.
How to set up a YouTube Giving fundraiser for a scheduled live stream
- Open Giving in Studio. Sign in to YouTube Studio and select Earn > Giving.
- Create the fundraiser. Select Get started, then Create a fundraiser.
- Choose the nonprofit. Select an available eligible nonprofit, or request one if it is not listed.
- Enter the campaign details. Add the fundraiser title and description. You can also include collaborators and suggested goal or duration details.
- Attach the scheduled stream. Add the scheduled live stream to the fundraiser. You can also set up the fundraiser while configuring the stream in Live Control Room under Advanced Settings.
- Publish the fundraiser. Complete the setup and publish it. The Donate button appears after the fundraiser’s start date arrives. YouTube Giving setup guidance.
A community fundraiser can include other eligible channels. YouTube may display totals across participating channels and videos, so do not treat the full displayed total as money raised by your stream unless your analytics identify that amount specifically.

What viewers see when they donate
Once the fundraiser has started, viewers can find the Donate button on the watch page. For Live Chat Donations, the scheduled stream must be attached to the fundraiser and live chat must be enabled. On phones, viewers need to view chat in portrait orientation to see the chat interface. YouTube Giving and live-stream setup · Live Chat Donations.
If a donor makes a Live Chat Donation public, the creator can see the donor’s account name and donation amount. Donors can choose not to make a donation public, so do not promise that every donation is anonymous. YouTube Giving FAQs.

How donations are handled
YouTube states: “100% of the money you donate will go to the nonprofit. YouTube also covers credit card transaction fees.” Google partners with Network for Good to collect and distribute contributions. Distributions are typically monthly; if less than $10 is raised, the cited FAQ says the amount is distributed annually. The nonprofit must opt in to receive money from Network for Good. Donation processing may be non-refundable. Whether a donation is tax-deductible depends on the donor’s location; check YouTube’s location-specific tax information rather than assuming the same treatment applies everywhere.

What to check if the Donate button is missing
- The fundraiser has not started yet: Confirm its start date. The Donate button appears after that date arrives.
- The scheduled stream is not attached: Open the fundraiser in Studio and verify that the correct scheduled livestream is included.
- You expect a button in chat: Confirm live chat is enabled. On mobile, check the chat in portrait orientation.
- The channel or video is ineligible: Check the Giving area in Studio, confirm the channel is not designated Made for Kids, and review the stated channel criteria.
- The nonprofit is unavailable: Confirm that it meets YouTube Giving’s nonprofit requirements or request it through the fundraiser setup flow.
What if you are not eligible for YouTube Giving?
Google for Nonprofits recommends using a video end screen to link viewers to an external fundraiser. Its guidance names GoFundMe and JustGiving as examples of approved third-party fundraising sites. End screens occupy the final 5–20 seconds of a video. Confirm the charity’s campaign URL and check current YouTube link policies and the fundraiser platform’s terms before publishing; the cited guidance does not establish comparable fees for these services. Unlike YouTube Giving, an external link does not provide YouTube’s native Donate control in the live chat. Tell viewers clearly where the link leads and make sure it goes to the charity’s intended campaign page.

Do you need special streaming equipment?
YouTube Giving setup does not require a particular webcam, microphone, light, or capture device. A webcam is one optional video source for a computer-based broadcast, not a YouTube Giving requirement.
