It captures the page’s scrollable area, not merely the visible viewport. First let the game render and bring any content you want into view; then inspect the image to confirm it contains the intended game state. A tall page screenshot is different from a screenshot of one game scene, and neither records the game’s interactivity.
What a full-page screenshot captures
A full-page screenshot records the rendered page beyond the current viewport, effectively producing an image as tall as the scrollable document. Playwright documents this with page.screenshot({ path: 'screenshot.png', fullPage: true }) (Playwright screenshot documentation).
That distinction matters on a game site. You might want the entire page, one visible game scene, or a particular state after a player action. Full-page mode addresses the first goal; for a single scene or moment, a viewport capture may be more appropriate. A screenshot records pixels, not selectable text, game logic, or an interactive record of how the state was reached.
Why Flutter game pages need a visual check
Flutter web can combine DOM, Canvas, and WebAssembly, and Flutter’s full-page mode can take control of the browser window. When embedding a Flutter app, the rendering canvas is sized from its host element’s computed dimensions (Flutter web embedding documentation; Flutter web overview). A game may therefore appear as a canvas-backed visual area rather than ordinary page text and separate image elements.

Nor does full-page mode promise to load every asset, reveal all lazy content, or preserve every animation frame. Decide what page or game state you want, allow it to render, and inspect the saved screenshot.
Capture the full page with Playwright
Prerequisites
- Node.js installed on your computer.
- A reachable game page and permission to access it.
- A terminal in a new project directory.
Install Playwright
- Create a project directory and enter it:
mkdir flutter-game-shot && cd flutter-game-shot. - Initialize the project:
npm init -y. - Install Playwright:
npm install playwright. - Install its Chromium browser:
npx playwright install chromium.
Save and run this script
Create a file named screenshot.js and replace the example address with the game page URL:

The example waits for network activity to settle, but that alone does not prove that a game has finished loading or reached the desired state. Add a check or interaction specific to the site when necessary.
Playwright also provides a command-line screenshot route. Its CLI documents --full-page and lists canvas and chart content among screenshot use cases (Playwright CLI screenshot documentation). Use the CLI when its defaults suit your capture; use the script when you need to control navigation, timing, or game interaction.

Prepare the page and verify the result
- Open the game in a desktop browser or run your Playwright script, and wait for the Flutter view and visible game assets to load.
- Reach the page position or game state you want to document. If content appears only after scrolling, clicking, or starting the game, do that first and confirm it rendered.
- Capture the full page with Playwright’s
fullPage: trueoption. - Open the resulting image and check it from top to bottom for blank sections, clipped content, missing game canvas, and overlays or dialogs in the wrong state.
A full-document capture does not automatically turn a particular animation frame or interaction into a reliable record. If you need a specific moment, bring the game to that moment and consider capturing the viewport rather than the whole document.
Choose the capture that matches your goal

Troubleshooting incomplete or incorrect captures
- The game area is blank: the page may not have finished rendering, or the game may require an interaction. Wait for a site-specific readiness condition, perform the needed action, and recapture.
- Lower sections or images are missing: content may load only after scrolling. Scroll through the relevant sections before capture, then check whether the page populated them.
- The screenshot shows the wrong scene: full-page mode captures the page’s rendered state; it does not choose a game state for you. Start or navigate the game to the required point before taking the image.
- The capture times out: a game page may keep network activity open, so waiting for network idle can be unsuitable. Try a different navigation wait condition and add an explicit, site-specific wait before capture.
- The image cuts off content: confirm the page has finished laying out and that the desired content belongs to the scrollable page. If only the game itself matters, a viewport capture may better fit the task.
