To save a webpage as a PDF without missing lazy-loaded images, scroll through the full page first, wait for images to appear, then use your browser’s Print dialog and choose Save as PDF. Check the preview before saving. Scrolling gives deferred images a chance to load, but it cannot guarantee every site will include them.
Save the page as a PDF in your browser
- Open the webpage and scroll from top to bottom. Pause where images are still loading and wait until they appear. Lazy loading defers some image requests until the image is needed in or near the visible area; the page’s load event alone does not prove every such image is ready. MDN explains image lazy loading.
- Open the browser’s Print dialog. In Firefox, choose Print; in Chrome, open the browser menu and choose Print. Firefox’s print guide and Chrome Help describe the built-in workflow.
- Choose the PDF destination. In Chrome, select Save as PDF as the printer destination. In Firefox, choose Save to PDF, then adjust available settings and save.
- Inspect the entire preview before saving. Look for missing images, clipped sections, awkward page breaks, and altered formatting. Where available, adjust orientation, margins, paper size, or background printing. Save only when the preview contains the images and content you need.
Print output can differ from the on-screen page because sites may use a separate layout for paper. If an image is absent, return to the webpage, scroll through that section again, wait for it to load, and reopen Print. Some scripts, embedded frames, access controls, or network requests may still prevent an image from appearing, so verify the resulting PDF rather than assuming the method worked.
Why lazy-loaded images may be missing
Pages often defer fetching images until they are near the visual viewport to avoid loading content the visitor has not reached. MDN notes that lazy-loaded images may not be available when the page’s load event fires; an image’s Boolean complete property can help determine whether that image has loaded. In practice, scrolling brings images into view and gives the browser an opportunity to request them, but it is not a guarantee for every page.

Chrome for Developers documents the --print-to-pdf option for saving a target page as a PDF. For example, from a terminal with Chrome installed, run:

The exact executable name or path can vary by operating system and installation. Chrome’s --timeout option sets the maximum wait before capture proceeds even if the page is still loading. A timeout controls timing; it does not establish that every lazy image is ready. See the Chrome Headless command-line reference.

Try a full-page capture extension if scrolling and printing are not enough
The Chrome Web Store listing for PrintFriendly advertises full-page capture with automatic scrolling and handling of dynamic content, lazy-loaded images, iframes, and complex layouts. Those are the listing’s claims, not an independent test or a guarantee for your page. Before installing any extension, review its permissions and privacy details, then check the output for missing images and layout changes.
For any approach, judge the result by whether the needed images appear, text remains selectable and searchable, headings and links survive the print layout, and the workflow handles that page’s dynamic content. The cited sources do not establish a universal winner across browsers or extensions.

Troubleshooting missing images or poor PDF output
- An image is blank in the preview: return to the webpage, scroll until the image is visible, wait for it to appear, and reopen Print. If it remains missing, the page’s scripts, frame, access restrictions, or network behavior may be responsible.
- The preview differs from the screen: websites can use a print-specific layout. Check page breaks, orientation, margins, and background settings in the preview before saving.
- Headless Chrome captures before content is ready: increase the allowed wait using the documented timeout option, while recognizing that a longer timeout alone does not confirm lazy images have loaded.
- An extension still omits content: treat its feature description as a claim, not a promise. Inspect the PDF and consider whether the specific page’s dynamic content or embedded frames are supported.
