To stream Counter-Strike 2 (CS2) on YouTube, enable live streaming on an eligible channel, create a live event in YouTube Studio, connect an encoder such as OBS with your stream key, and test the complete setup before going public. To help interested viewers find it, label the game accurately, share the event link ahead of time, and make useful highlights available afterward. None of these steps guarantees an audience size.
1. Check that your channel can go live
YouTube requires a verified channel with no live-streaming restriction in the preceding 90 days. If this is your first time enabling live streaming, activation can take up to 24 hours, so do it well before your planned broadcast. See YouTube’s live-streaming access requirements and encoder setup guidance.
YouTube’s minimum age for live streaming is 16. For creators aged 13–15, current YouTube guidance requires an adult visibly present in the live stream; younger children cannot independently host a live stream. Check YouTube’s current age requirements for live streaming before planning a broadcast involving a minor.
2. Check your PC and choose an encoder
CS2’s minimum requirements are not streaming requirements
Steam lists these minimum Windows requirements for CS2: Windows 10, a four-thread Intel Core i5-750 or higher, 8 GB RAM, a DirectX 11-compatible graphics card with 1 GB or more, and 85 GB of available storage. Its Linux listing specifies Ubuntu 20.04, 8 GB RAM, AMD GCN+ or NVIDIA Kepler+ graphics with current Vulkan drivers, among other requirements. These are requirements to run the game, not a guarantee that the same computer can also render gameplay, capture a scene, and encode a smooth live stream. Check the current Counter-Strike 2 system requirements on Steam.

Use an encoder for gameplay and overlays
An encoder is the usual route for PC gameplay because it can capture the game, combine overlays and audio, and work with external audio or video equipment. OBS Studio is one free example, not a requirement. It supports game and display sources, audio capture and mixing, streaming, and recording. Its system requirements warn that a compatible computer is not necessarily capable of streaming or recording: load depends on the encoder, resolution, frame rate, and scene complexity. See OBS system requirements.
There is no single OBS preset that is right for every CS2 computer. Choose output resolution, frame rate, and encoder based on your hardware and connection, then test with the game running. If the game stutters or the stream drops frames, reduce output demands or scene complexity and test again.
3. Create the YouTube event and connect your encoder
- Create or schedule the stream: In YouTube Studio, select Create > Go live. Set up a new stream or schedule one for later, then enter its title, description, visibility, and other event details.
- Copy the stream key: In the Live Control Room, locate the stream key for the event and copy it into your encoder’s stream settings. Treat the key like a password: do not show it on screen, include it in a screenshot, or share it with viewers. If it is exposed, reset it in YouTube Studio.
- Set up the encoder scene: In OBS or your chosen encoder, add a game-capture source for CS2. Add a microphone, overlays, or other sources only if you want them. Check that the game and any intended audio sources are visible and active in the scene and mixer.
- Start the encoder and inspect the preview: Start streaming from the encoder, then check the Live Control Room preview for a picture, game audio, and microphone audio. Begin the YouTube event only when the preview and sound are right.
YouTube’s encoder guide explains the setup flow. Keep the event unlisted or use a private test where available while checking the complete path, rather than discovering a silent microphone or wrong capture source in front of an audience.
4. Test the connection, picture, and sound
Leave upload headroom
Check your internet connection’s upload capacity, not just its download speed. YouTube recommends leaving about 20% bandwidth headroom beyond the total stream bitrate. Treat that as platform guidance, not a guarantee: other household users, Wi-Fi interference, and network fluctuations can still interrupt a stream. YouTube’s streaming tips cover network preparation.

- HDR10 Support: Capture brilliant HDR content with tone mapping on Windows
- Cross-Platform Compatible: Works with PS5, Xbox Series X/S, Switch 2, and more
- Analog Audio In: Capture in-game chat or commentary with 3.5mm input
- Test the connection at the location and on the network you will use for the broadcast.
- Account for other people and devices using the connection; available upload capacity can change while you stream.
- Start the encoder early and watch the Live Control Room preview before announcing that you are live.
- Listen to the stream audio, not only your local monitoring. Confirm game sound is audible, the microphone is at a sensible level, and neither overwhelms the other.
If the preview stutters or the connection cannot sustain your chosen output, lower the stream’s demands and repeat the test. Change one setting at a time so you can identify what improves stability.
5. Label the stream so CS2 viewers know what it is
Set the category to Gaming and select Counter-Strike 2 as the game in YouTube Studio. Use a truthful title that names CS2 and the actual focus of the stream: for example, a rank goal, a particular map, a teaching session, or viewer lobbies—but only if that is what you will do. A useful pattern is CS2 [specific activity] | [rank, map, or format].
Make the description explain what viewers can expect and when the broadcast starts. YouTube says gaming videos can appear on automatically generated game pages and advises creators to use a good title and description. Its guidance puts it plainly: “You don’t need to do anything except follow the standard best practices for discovery of a video: have a good title and description.” Read YouTube’s guidance on browsing gaming content.
Tags are not a substitute for accurate labeling. YouTube says they generally play a minimal role in discovery, except that they can help with commonly misspelled terms. Use only relevant tags and do not mislead viewers with promises the stream does not fulfill. See YouTube’s video tag guidance.

6. Choose horizontal, vertical, or both based on the viewing experience
Horizontal live is the conventional layout for desktop gameplay and supports features such as clickable links in chat and live ad breaks. Vertical live can appear in the Shorts feed, giving mobile viewers a scrollable live experience, but it has different feature availability and needs a layout that works in a narrow frame. Neither format is universally better; choose according to your production layout and the devices you expect your audience to use.
YouTube describes workflows that can output horizontal and vertical live formats simultaneously in some Live Control Room setups. Available controls and feature differences can change, so confirm the options shown in your YouTube Studio account and review YouTube’s vertical live-streaming guidance.
A vertical live feed is not the same thing as an automatic highlight Short. A scheduled horizontal live does not appear in the Shorts feed, and YouTube’s mobile-created vertical highlights have their own eligibility conditions. Check the current workflow before relying on either format for discovery.
7. Promote before, during, and after the broadcast
Before: give people a reason and a time to return
YouTube recommends sharing a stream link at least 48 hours before it starts. Schedule the event when possible, then share its link with the communities and followers who may genuinely be interested. A short teaser, a channel announcement, or a post with the start time can make the plan clear; these are ways to reach an existing audience, not guarantees of new viewers.

During: make participation specific
Give viewers a concrete way to join in, such as asking which map they would like to see next when that choice is genuinely open. Keep the stream’s title promise and on-screen information aligned with what is happening. Clip notable moments when practical so there is material to use after the broadcast.
After: make the archive useful
If it suits your channel and the content is appropriate to keep public, leave the archive available. Organize streams and related highlights in a playlist, and consider editing a strong moment into a separate short-form video. YouTube’s live-streaming promotion guidance covers sharing in advance and working with the stream afterward.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.8. Copyright and channel-safety checks
Use game audio and other material only in ways you have the rights to use. Music played in the background, third-party video, or other copyrighted material can create claims or interrupt a live broadcast; owning the game does not by itself grant rights to every song or asset heard during play. Review YouTube’s current copyright guidance and avoid adding music unless you have permission or a suitable license.
Also make sure the stream and its title, thumbnail, chat, and overlays follow YouTube’s Community Guidelines. If you plan to reuse stream footage, make each later video genuinely useful and distinct rather than assuming that repeated or minimally changed uploads will qualify for monetization. Copyright compliance and monetization eligibility are separate questions; consult YouTube’s current YouTube Partner Program channel monetization policies.

9. Troubleshoot common CS2 streaming problems
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to check or change |
|---|---|---|
| You cannot start a live event | Channel verification, a recent live restriction, or first-time activation is incomplete. | Check channel status and live access in YouTube Studio. If live streaming was just enabled, allow up to 24 hours for activation. |
| The Live Control Room does not show a preview | The encoder has not started, the wrong event or stream key is selected, or the connection has not reached YouTube. | Confirm the encoder is streaming to the intended event, check the stream-key entry, and wait for the preview to appear. Reset an exposed key. |
| Viewers hear no microphone or game audio | The wrong source is selected, a mixer channel is muted, or levels are routed incorrectly. | Check the encoder’s audio mixer and source settings, then listen to a test preview before starting the public event. |
| Gameplay stutters or the stream drops frames | The PC may be overloaded by the game, encoder, resolution, frame rate, or complex scenes; upload capacity may also be insufficient or unstable. | Test with CS2 running, simplify the scene, reduce output resolution or frame rate, and verify upload headroom. Change settings incrementally. |
| The game appears black in the stream | The capture source may target the wrong application or display. | Confirm the game-capture source is pointed at CS2 and visible in the active scene. If that does not work, test a display-capture source and verify what it exposes before going live. |
| The intended viewers do not find the stream | The event may be mislabeled, unclear, or not shared with its likely audience. | Check the Gaming category and Counter-Strike 2 selection, make the title and description specific and accurate, and share the event link ahead of time. Tags alone are unlikely to solve discoverability. |
Or let it run in the cloud
For a live CS2 broadcast, an encoder on your PC captures the game as it happens. StreamNeo serves a different use: it keeps a YouTube channel live around the clock by looping videos you upload; it does not capture a live camera or gameplay session. To use it, upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live.
- Nothing has to stay running on your home computer or connection for the uploaded video loop to continue.
- Each slot streams your upload as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one flat price per slot rather than quality tiers.
- It automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream.
- The first day is free with no card, once per account.
Monthly: $9.99 per month. See StreamNeo for details, then start your free day.
