Yes—you can stream to Twitch and YouTube simultaneously, provided you follow Twitch’s simulcasting rules. You can encode and send streams from your own computer or send one feed to a cloud relay that distributes it to both services. The main trade-off is local control and workload versus simpler distribution; whichever route you choose, keep Twitch’s audience experience at least as good as the experience on YouTube.
What Twitch allows when you simulcast
Twitch’s Terms of Service, section 11, permits simulcasting to other services that support live streaming user-generated content, subject to conditions. Twitch’s Terms of Service search result reports a modification date of August 12, 2026; check the current terms and any separate agreement you have with Twitch before going live, because platform rules can change.
- Maintain Twitch’s audience experience. Twitch viewers must receive an experience at least as good as viewers on the other platform. That includes your engagement with the Twitch community, such as chat.
- Do not direct Twitch viewers away. You may identify that you are also on another platform, but do not use your Twitch broadcast or chat to actively encourage people to leave Twitch for the concurrent YouTube stream.
- Do not display merged cross-platform activity on Twitch. Do not use a third-party service to combine activity from other platforms on the Twitch simulcast. Twitch’s Help FAQ search result says personal-use tools for combining activity may be used, but that is not permission to show other-platform activity on the Twitch stream. The Terms of Service is the authoritative source for the restriction.
- Check for an exclusivity agreement. Twitch’s guidance applies unless a separate agreement requires exclusivity.
Choose how to send the stream to both platforms
| Method | How it works | Best suited to | What to consider |
|---|---|---|---|
| Local encoding | Your streaming software encodes video on your computer and sends it to both destinations, using a compatible multistream plugin or multi-output setup. | Creators who want more control and have enough computer capacity and upload bandwidth. | If you send separate feeds directly, your connection must handle their combined target bitrates. Exact multi-output setup and compatibility depend on the software and plugin; Twitch and YouTube do not certify a particular plugin in the cited guidance. |
| Cloud relay | Your encoder sends one feed to a cloud service, which distributes it to Twitch and YouTube. | Creators who want a simpler distribution setup, have limited local processing capacity, or plan to send to more than two channels. | The relay still needs to deliver the stream onward. Destination limits, resolution, branding and price vary by provider and plan; check the provider’s current terms. |
Local encoding with OBS or another encoder
Twitch documents OBS Studio as one of several software-encoder options. Twitch ingest uses RTMP and a platform-assigned stream key. YouTube describes local hardware/software encoding as a higher-control approach for creators with a powerful computer. To multistream locally, use a compatible plugin or multi-output configuration that can send to both services. The specific controls and steps vary; do not assume a particular plugin is officially endorsed by Twitch or YouTube.
For each destination, use the service’s own stream URL and stream key in the encoder or supported multi-output tool. Treat stream keys like passwords: do not show them on-screen, share them, or include them in a public recording. If one destination’s stream key is exposed, reset it through that platform’s live-stream settings.

Cloud relay
A relay takes one incoming stream and distributes it to the platforms you select. YouTube describes cloud-service encoding as simpler to set up and lighter on your computer, particularly when you plan to send to more than two channels. Some services have free plans with varying limits and paid upgrades, so confirm current destination counts and plan restrictions before choosing one.
For example, Restream’s own guide describes connecting Twitch and YouTube accounts, creating a stream with its RTMP encoder option, enabling both destinations, copying the relay key into OBS, and starting the broadcast from OBS. Its browser-based Studio is a separate option for people who do not want to use OBS. These are the vendor’s instructions for its service, not an independent performance test or a guarantee that current plans include the same features.

Cloudflare Stream documents a different relay option: one live input can send outputs to as many as 50 concurrent destinations, according to its documentation last updated April 21, 2026. That figure is a Cloudflare Stream product capability, not a general limit for cloud relays.
Prepare your accounts, bandwidth and stream
- Enable YouTube live streaming. Verify your YouTube channel and request live-streaming access. YouTube says first-time activation takes at least 24 hours after the request, so do this well before your planned broadcast.
- Check both accounts. Confirm that your Twitch and YouTube accounts are active and in good standing. Find each platform’s stream key and RTMP URL if your chosen encoder or relay requires them.
- Choose a workflow. Decide whether your computer will encode and send the feeds itself or send one feed to a cloud relay. Consider the number of destinations, your computer’s capacity, and your upload bandwidth.
- Configure both destinations. Add Twitch and YouTube to your chosen setup, using the correct keys and destination settings. Avoid displaying private keys in the stream preview or broadcast.
- Test before a public broadcast. Where appropriate, use a private or unlisted YouTube event and check YouTube’s stream-health indicators. Confirm separately that Twitch shows the broadcast as live.
- Plan for Twitch’s audience. Engage with Twitch chat and keep the Twitch viewer experience at least as good as the one on YouTube. Do not direct viewers away from Twitch or display merged cross-platform activity on the Twitch broadcast.
Estimate upload speed for separate local feeds
For separately encoded feeds sent from your computer, add their target bitrates to estimate the combined upload requirement. YouTube’s example uses a 6 Mbps feed plus a 4 Mbps feed, for a 10 Mbps combined target. YouTube recommends having upload speed 1.5–2 times that sum for stability, especially on a shared connection; in that example, that means 15–20 Mbps. This is YouTube’s recommendation, not a guarantee that every connection will sustain a particular stream.

Test your connection under realistic conditions, with typical audio and video movement. During the broadcast, watch the platform’s stream-health alerts. A speed test taken while the network is otherwise idle may not reflect performance when other people or devices are using the connection.
A cloud relay changes the local upload pattern because your computer sends one feed to the relay instead of separate feeds directly to each platform. The relay still has to distribute the stream to its destinations, and the available sources do not establish a universal upload target for every relay configuration.

Troubleshoot common multistream problems
- YouTube will not let you start a live stream: Check that the channel is verified and that live streaming has been enabled. First-time activation can take at least 24 hours after you request it.
- One platform is offline while the other is live: Check that each destination is enabled and that its stream key and URL are correct. Confirm that the account is active, then check that platform’s live dashboard for stream-health or connection messages.
- The stream buffers or drops frames: For separate local feeds, compare your available upload speed with the combined target bitrate and YouTube’s recommended headroom. Retest with typical stream activity and reduce the target bitrate or resolve competing network use if your connection cannot sustain it.
- The encoder or computer struggles: Local encoding uses your own hardware. If your computer cannot reliably encode and send the feeds, consider a cloud relay, which handles distribution on its infrastructure.
- The stream works in a test but not as expected in public: Check the selected event and destination settings on each platform, then verify stream health and live status independently. A successful connection to one platform does not prove the other destination is receiving the stream.
- You are unsure whether an overlay or tool breaks Twitch’s rule: Remove any element that displays combined activity from YouTube or another platform on the Twitch simulcast. Keep Twitch chat and engagement visible and usable for Twitch viewers.
