Simulcasting sends the same live program to more than one platform at once—for example, to YouTube and Twitch. You can send a separate output from your streaming encoder to each destination, or send one output to a relay service that forwards it. Before going live, confirm each account is eligible, collect the destination details your setup needs, check your upload capacity, and follow each platform’s simulcasting rules.
Choose how to send your stream to multiple platforms
The two common approaches differ in where the stream is duplicated. Neither is best for every setup: consider ease of configuration, upload capacity, computer workload, number of destinations, service cost, and how you will monitor each destination.
Send an output from your encoder to each platform
Your encoder sends the program to each destination using its supported integration or connection details. YouTube’s guide covers selecting an encoding method and configuring an encoder for a live event. This approach may require an encoder that supports multiple outputs and enough upstream capacity for the destinations you serve.
Send one output to a relay service
Your encoder sends one stream to a relay, which forwards it to the selected platforms. Cloudflare documents forwarding a live stream using destination URLs and stream keys; Restream describes an OBS workflow for Twitch and YouTube. A relay changes the delivery path, but does not remove the need to check account eligibility, destination rules, and stream health.

For a YouTube channel that needs uploaded videos to stay live around the clock—not a live camera or a simulcast to other platforms—StreamNeo is a separate cloud option: it runs a YouTube stream from uploaded videos, with any uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot and a free first day. It is not a multistream relay.
Check account access and platform rules first
YouTube readiness
YouTube requires a verified channel with live streaming enabled. If you have never streamed live before, first-time activation can take at least 24 hours after you request it, so do not leave this check until broadcast day. YouTube also says sufficient internet upload speed is critical for high-quality simulstreaming; its guidance does not establish one universal Mbps threshold for every stream configuration and delivery route. See YouTube’s Stream across platforms guidance.

Other destination accounts
Make sure each other destination account is active, in good standing, and enabled for live streaming. Requirements vary by platform; check that service’s current help documentation, as YouTube recommends.
Twitch simulcasting rules
If Twitch is one of your destinations, Twitch’s Terms of Service require the Twitch viewer experience to be at least as good as the experience on the other platforms. They also prohibit directing the Twitch community to leave for the concurrent stream and using third-party tools to combine cross-platform activity on the Twitch simulcast, such as displaying merged chat. Twitch says lower video quality on Twitch is an example of a degraded experience. Links to other social profiles may appear in channel information, but do not actively promote or direct Twitch viewers to the concurrent livestream through banners, titles, go-live notices, chat commands, or similar means. Personal-use tools may combine activity if that combined activity is not displayed on the Twitch simulcast. Check the current Twitch Terms of Service and Twitch Simulcasting Guidelines FAQ before you broadcast; platform rules can change.

Set up a simulcast step by step
- Verify YouTube live access. In YouTube, confirm the channel is verified and live streaming is enabled. If this is your first live stream, request activation early; YouTube says it can take at least 24 hours.
- Check each other destination. Confirm the account is active and allowed to stream, then review that platform’s current requirements.
- Choose your delivery route. Configure your encoder to send outputs to destinations, or send one encoder output to a relay that forwards it. YouTube, Cloudflare, and Restream describe these types of workflows in their documentation.
- Add each destination’s connection details. Depending on the encoder and service, this may use an account integration or an RTMP server URL and stream key. Keep stream keys private: they authorize a stream. YouTube explains destination setup in its multistreaming guide; Cloudflare documents relay outputs using destination URLs and keys.
- Check upload capacity. YouTube says sufficient upload speed is critical, but the cited guidance gives no universal Mbps figure. Allow for the actual stream configuration and delivery route rather than relying on a generic threshold. Ethernet can be a useful wired connection, but a cable cannot increase the bandwidth your internet service provides.
- Test the whole path. Before an important broadcast, do a private or low-stakes test where your platform settings allow it. Check that every destination receives the stream, with working audio and video.
- Apply Twitch-specific safeguards if needed. Keep the Twitch experience at least as good as elsewhere, do not direct Twitch viewers to the concurrent stream, and keep combined cross-platform activity off the Twitch simulcast unless current Twitch guidance permits the exact implementation.
- Monitor destinations while live. Watch each platform’s status and stream quality. A successful connection from the encoder does not confirm that every destination is receiving correctly.
Troubleshoot common simulcasting problems
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| YouTube will not start the first live stream | Live access may not be enabled yet. | Verify the channel and request live streaming in advance; YouTube says first-time activation can take at least 24 hours. |
| One destination is offline while another is live | A destination’s account access or connection details may be wrong, or that destination may not be receiving the output. | Check the account’s live access, the selected integration or RTMP URL and stream key, and that platform’s status separately. |
| Video or audio quality is poor or unstable | Available upload capacity may be insufficient for the chosen setup, or the issue may be limited to one destination. | Check upload conditions and each destination’s status; YouTube identifies sufficient upload speed as critical. A wired connection may help avoid relying on Wi-Fi, but does not raise your service’s bandwidth. |
| Twitch experience differs from other destinations | The Twitch stream may have lower quality, or cross-platform activity may be displayed there. | Bring Twitch’s viewer experience at least in line with the others and review the current Twitch Terms and FAQ for the exact implementation. |
| A stream key is rejected or a stream goes to the wrong destination | The wrong key or server URL may be configured, or credentials may need to be refreshed. | Compare the encoder’s destination details with the platform’s current live setup page. Keep keys private and replace them through the platform if you believe one was exposed. |
Or let it run in the cloud
For a different use case—keeping a YouTube channel live 24/7 from uploaded videos—StreamNeo runs the loop in the cloud. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. Your computer and home connection do not have to stay on. StreamNeo is YouTube-only and does not go live from a camera or forward a simulcast to other platforms.
