What “24/7 streaming” needs to mean for your workflow
Continuous playout, not just a scheduled event
A YouTube livestream event gives viewers a scheduled destination and start time. A 24/7 playout service instead keeps a channel’s video output running by playing uploaded recordings, often from a playlist. Verify that the vendor explicitly supports continuous prerecorded playback and the scheduling controls you need. A service that supports multistreaming or ordinary live encoding does not necessarily provide this.

Scheduled videos versus a permanent channel
Some platforms let you schedule individual prerecorded broadcasts in advance; others provide a continuing channel that cycles through content. Those are different operating models. If you need a permanent loop, ask whether a playlist advances automatically, what happens when it reaches the end, and whether a scheduled item interrupts or replaces the current playback. OneStream Live’s up-to-60-day advance scheduling statement, for example, is distinct from its 30-day limit for one 24/7 run.
What YouTube itself provides
YouTube’s encoder help page lists third-party verified encoders, including Gyre and AWS Elemental MediaLive, and notes that these products are not made by YouTube. A YouTube event or encoder listing alone does not establish cloud playlist playout, recovery behavior, storage, or continuous-run limits. Confirm those functions with the service provider.

How to choose a platform for your channel
- Match the service to the playback model. Decide whether you want one video repeated, a playlist that rotates, or a mix of prerecorded files and scheduled live inputs. Confirm the vendor documents that exact mode.
- Check run limits and restart behavior. Ask how long one continuous broadcast can run, whether the service can restart or recover if YouTube drops the connection, and whether a restart creates a new YouTube event or changes the viewer experience. Do not infer a guarantee of uninterrupted streaming unless the vendor publishes an applicable service commitment.
- Compare capacity in the plan you will actually buy. Verify concurrent stream count, bandwidth allowance, storage, output resolution and frame rate, and whether playlist, scheduler, or failover features are included. Castr’s pricing page describes tiered capacity and higher-tier features; Gyre’s page lists plan-specific capabilities. Recheck the live pages because commercial details may change.
- Test the operational controls. Before relying on a service, try uploading representative files, arranging the playlist, setting a start time, and confirming what the audience sees between videos. Check whether the dashboard reports a stopped or failed output and how you resume it.
- Confirm rights and channel readiness. Use video and audio you have permission to broadcast, including music and third-party material. Verify that livestreaming is enabled on the YouTube channel and complete any setup YouTube requires before your planned start.
Costs and practical trade-offs
Cloud playout avoids leaving a home computer and internet connection responsible for the broadcast, but the service’s plan limits still matter. Compare the cost against your expected number of channels, storage needs, output quality, bandwidth, and run duration—not just the entry-level plan price. For a self-managed infrastructure route such as a broadcast processing service, also account for the engineering and configuration work; the available evidence does not establish an equivalent turnkey schedule or total cost for AWS Elemental MediaLive.
Long streams also raise an archive question. Restream’s help page states that YouTube archives only streams shorter than 12 hours, but that is a third-party statement rather than current primary YouTube guidance.
