To schedule a YouTube Live playlist from a Windows PC, create the event in YouTube Studio, build the ordered playlist in OBS Studio with a VLC Video source, then send OBS’s encoder feed to that event using its stream URL and key. Scheduling and playlist playback are separate: Studio schedules the broadcast; OBS supplies the video and audio.
Before you begin
- Your YouTube channel must be verified, have no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days, and meet YouTube’s minimum age requirement of 16. See YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guidance.
- If this is the channel’s first live stream, activation can take up to 24 hours. Enable live streaming well ahead of your planned broadcast using YouTube’s encoder setup guidance.
- Install OBS Studio and VLC on Windows. OBS’s VLC Video source requires VLC; if you use 64-bit OBS, install 64-bit VLC. Check the OBS Media Sources documentation.
- Gather the video files on the PC and decide their order. Keep the files accessible throughout the stream; the playlist plays local media through OBS.
The workflow is the same for Indian creators as for other regions in YouTube’s general help pages; those pages do not describe a separate India-only scheduling control. Account eligibility and network conditions can still vary.
Schedule the YouTube event
- Open YouTube Studio and select Create, then Go Live.
- In Live Control Room, open Manage and choose Schedule Stream.
- Choose Create new or Reuse settings, enter the event details, set its visibility and intended time, then save. YouTube’s steps are in Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder.
- Open the scheduled event in Live Control Room and leave it available for the connection and preview checks later.
This creates the scheduled event, not a playlist. The videos will be sent as one live encoder feed from OBS.
Build the playlist in OBS
- Open OBS Studio and select the scene you want to use for the broadcast. In Sources, select +, then VLC Video Source. Name the source and confirm.
- In the source properties, add the local video files in the intended playback order.
- Set Shuffle Playlist off to play items in listed order. Turn it on only if randomized playback is wanted.
- Set Loop Playlist off if playback should stop at the end of the last item. Turn it on if the sequence should restart from the beginning and continue.
- Review source visibility behaviour and audio track properties. Play through each file in a test to confirm both picture and sound work as intended.
OBS documents the VLC Video source’s playlist, shuffle, and loop controls in its Media Sources guide. The VLC source is not available if OBS cannot find a compatible VLC installation.

Connect OBS to the scheduled event
- In YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room, open the scheduled event and find its stream settings. Copy the event’s stream URL and stream key.
- In OBS, open Settings > Stream. Select YouTube as the service and enter the event’s stream URL and key, or use the connection method offered by your OBS version. Confirm you are connecting to the scheduled event rather than creating or selecting a different broadcast.
- Keep the stream key private. YouTube says, “Stream keys are like your YouTube stream’s password and address.” If the key is exposed, replace or reset it in YouTube Studio before streaming. See Manage live stream settings.
- Start the encoder feed in OBS before the scheduled start. Check the event’s preview in Live Control Room and wait for stream health information. When ready, start the event from Live Control Room if required by the event setup.
YouTube recommends setting up in advance and checking the preview before starting. Its streaming tips explain the preparation and monitoring checks.
Choose settings and check your upload connection
There is no single bitrate or resolution that is right for every playlist: the appropriate encoder settings depend on the output resolution and frame rate. Use YouTube’s current encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions guidance for the target format rather than guessing. Keep the total streaming bitrate within the PC’s available upload capacity. YouTube recommends about 20% headroom over the stream’s bitrate.

- Test with representative movement and audio, not just a still opening frame.
- Check that OBS is outputting the intended resolution and frame rate and that the stream preview shows the expected picture and sound.
- Watch Live Control Room’s stream health during the broadcast. A preview that works locally does not prove the internet connection can sustain the full stream.
Copyright and repeat-play considerations
Scheduling a broadcast and making a playlist do not grant rights to its contents. Use video and audio you own or are authorized to stream, and review YouTube’s copyright rules before broadcasting. Repeating the same material also does not guarantee eligibility for YouTube monetization: reused or repetitive content is assessed under YouTube’s monetization policies. Avoid treating a continuous playlist as a shortcut around rights or originality requirements.
Troubleshoot common problems
- VLC Video source is missing: Install VLC and restart OBS. Match the architectures—64-bit VLC for 64-bit OBS.
- Files play in the wrong order or repeat unexpectedly: Reorder the items in the source properties; turn Shuffle Playlist off for listed order and set Loop Playlist according to whether playback should restart at the end.
- YouTube does not show an incoming preview: Confirm OBS is sending to the correct scheduled event and that its stream URL and key match that event. Check OBS’s connection state and the event preview.
- The video or sound is missing: Test each media item in OBS, check source visibility and audio track properties, and confirm the correct scene is active.
- Stream health reports connection trouble: Reduce the output bitrate or resolution to a level the upload connection can sustain, then retest. Keep YouTube’s recommended upload headroom and monitor health while live.
- You cannot go live: Check channel verification, restrictions in the previous 90 days, age eligibility, and whether initial live activation has completed. First activation can take up to 24 hours.
