Neither setting guarantees that every animation, asynchronous widget, or lazy-loaded element has finished.
Choose a fixed delay or a page-ready marker
A browser reaching document readiness is not necessarily the same as the page reaching the visual state you want to capture. JavaScript may still update the page, and third-party content may appear later. URL2PNG documents two ways to wait; its Quickstart Guide describes their behavior.
Fixed delay: easiest when you cannot change the page
Add the delay option with a number of seconds, for example delay=2. URL2PNG describes this as a pause after document readiness and asset loading. Two seconds is an example, not a universal setting: choose a value based on the page and the content you need. A fixed wait is a time-based heuristic, so it can be longer than necessary on a fast load or too short on a slow one.
Page-controlled marker: explicit readiness when you control the page
Set say_cheese=true and make the page expose an element with ID url2png-cheese when the content you want captured is ready:

URL2PNG documents waiting for this marker to be available; say_cheese defaults to false. This lets application logic define readiness rather than relying on an estimated number of seconds. It requires access to the page or cooperation from whoever controls it. The documentation does not establish a guarantee that unrelated animations, widgets, or content appearing after the marker will be complete.
Set the wait option in a signed URL2PNG request
URL2PNG v6 requests use an API key and a token computed from the full query string and secret key. Generate the signed URL on a trusted server, not in browser-visible code: exposing the secret key would allow others to use it. Include the chosen wait option before computing the matching token. Changing delay, say_cheese, dimensions, or another query parameter changes the string that must be signed. Follow URL2PNG’s current signing instructions in its Quickstart Guide; the exact signing implementation depends on your server language and request parameters.

Keep waiting separate from capture size and freshness
These options change what is captured or whether a cached image is returned; they do not signal that application content has finished rendering.

For a page where content extends below the initial screen, request fullpage=true; choose a viewport appropriate to the layout being tested; use thumbnail_max_width when the delivered image should be scaled down. If the page may have changed since the cached image was made, vary unique to request a fresh capture. Troubleshoot captures that still look unfinished
- Content is missing with a short delay: Increase
delayand compare the result, recognizing that a fixed time cannot guarantee readiness across variable loads. If you control the page, usesay_cheese=trueand expose the marker only after the needed content is ready. - The marker-based capture does not proceed as expected: Confirm that the page actually exposes an element whose ID is exactly
url2png-cheese, and that it is available when the capture is waiting. Confirmsay_cheese=trueis included in the signed query. - You changed a parameter but the signed request fails: Recompute the token from the full updated query string and secret key. Generate the URL on your server and keep the secret out of client-side code.
- The screenshot is cropped: Check whether you need
fullpage=true; otherwise the documented default is viewport-only. Check theviewportdimensions separately from the wait setting. - The image appears stale: Use a different
uniquevalue to request a fresh capture rather than relying on cached output.
