For a 720p60 YouTube Live gaming stream, YouTube recommends an 8 Mbps video bitrate with H.264 or 6 Mbps with AV1/H.265. Those rates work only if your BSNL connection can sustain the stream’s total upload bitrate with YouTube’s recommended 20% headroom. Measure your actual upload speed under typical household and gaming conditions; the BSNL name or plan alone does not establish what bitrate your connection can reliably send.
Recommended 720p60 bitrate by codec
YouTube’s live encoder guidance, current as of 2026, gives different settings by video codec. These are live-stream settings, not recommendations for uploading a prerecorded video. YouTube’s live encoder settings list the following for 720p at 60 frames per second:

The listed minimum is an encoder setting floor, not a guarantee that a stream will remain stable over a weak, variable, or shared connection. Use the recommended figure if your upload capacity supports it reliably; otherwise lower the bitrate and test. A lower rate can reduce image detail, especially during fast game movement, but a stable stream is preferable to setting a rate your connection cannot sustain.
How much BSNL upload speed do you need?
Judge capacity by outbound/upload speed, not the download speed advertised for a connection or shown most prominently in a speed test. YouTube says the total stream bitrate must fit within available upload bandwidth and recommends reserving 20% headroom. Its network guidance also notes that download speed is often higher than upload speed and that other users or devices on a shared connection affect what is available to your encoder. YouTube recommends testing upload bitrate, and its streaming tips state: “The total bitrate you’re streaming cannot exceed the amount of upload bandwidth available.”

As a planning calculation, take the video bitrate, add the audio bitrate and any other stream load, then add 20% capacity. For example, an 8 Mbps H.264 video rate requires more than 8 Mbps of sustained upload because audio and headroom also count. YouTube does not establish a universal BSNL upload speed, plan capability, or location-specific bitrate, so this calculation must be checked against your own measured connection.
Measure under realistic conditions
- Run an upload-speed test at the time and location you expect to stream, preferably while other household devices are being used as they normally would be.
- Repeat the test rather than relying on one best result. A variable connection should be planned around its dependable performance, not its peak.
- Account for audio bitrate and any simultaneous primary or backup stream. YouTube notes that both primary and backup streams add to required bandwidth.
- Choose an encoder bitrate that fits below your available upload capacity with the recommended 20% margin.
A wired connection may reduce local wireless variability, but it cannot increase the upload capacity supplied by the service or eliminate congestion elsewhere on the connection.

Set the encoder for a stable 720p60 stream
In your streaming encoder, set the output to 1280 × 720 at 60 fps, choose H.264 at 8 Mbps or AV1/H.265 at 6 Mbps if your tested upload supports it, and configure the following YouTube live settings:
- Rate control: CBR (constant bitrate).
- Keyframe interval: 2 seconds recommended; do not exceed 4 seconds.
- Protocol: RTMPS is YouTube’s recommended secure option; RTMP is also listed.
- Audio: AAC or MP3.
- Color for SDR: Rec. 709.
Use the stream key and server details shown in YouTube Live Control Room in your encoder. Treat the stream key as a password: do not publish it or share it. Encoder labels vary, so verify the resulting output settings rather than relying on a preset name alone.

Test before the gaming stream
Run a private or unlisted test before a planned public stream, using the same resolution, frame rate, bitrate, audio setup, and connection. Include representative gameplay with movement and sound; a static scene is not a useful test of the load or visual quality of a gaming stream. Check YouTube’s stream health and watch for dropped frames, buffering, or warnings. YouTube advises testing upload bitrate and cautions that a network disruption can break a live stream.
If the test is unstable, lower the video bitrate and repeat the test. If it is stable but the picture loses too much detail during movement, increase the bitrate only when the connection has adequate sustained upload and headroom. Do not increase bitrate merely because a download-speed result is high.

Common problems and fixes
- Stream health reports dropped frames or connection instability: the upload may be saturated or fluctuating. Reduce the bitrate, pause large uploads or downloads on the network, and retest under typical conditions.
- Speed test looks fast, but the live stream struggles: check the upload result rather than download, and account for household traffic, audio, backup streams, and variability.
- The encoder will not hold 60 fps at the selected settings: confirm that the output resolution and frame rate are set to 720p60 and lower bitrate or encoder load if needed, then test again.
- Image quality is poor despite a stable stream: bitrate may be too low for the movement and detail in the game. Raise it gradually only if upload capacity allows the added rate and headroom.
- Stream disconnects when the network briefly drops: YouTube warns that connectivity disruptions can break a stream. Improve the stability of the local connection where possible and keep bitrate within sustainable upload capacity.
Do not use the prerecorded-upload bitrate for a live stream
YouTube’s separate upload-encoding table recommends 7.5 Mbps for 720p high-frame-rate prerecorded uploads. That figure applies to uploading a video file, not to a 720p60 live encoder. For a live stream, use the codec-specific live settings above.
