You can set up a YouTube Live Redirect before your broadcast begins: schedule the source stream, then edit it in YouTube Studio and choose a destination under Customization > Redirect. YouTube redirects viewers when the source stream ends—not while it is still running. The channel sending the redirect must have more than 1,000 subscribers and no Community Guideline strikes.
Schedule the source live stream
- Open YouTube Studio and select Create > Go Live to open Live Control Room.
- Select Manage, then Schedule stream.
- Choose Reuse settings or Create new, and set the stream details and privacy setting.
A scheduled stream may appear as upcoming in the subscriber feed, where viewers can select Notify me for a reminder. Scheduling the source does not set its redirect; configure that separately before the broadcast.
Add the redirect to the scheduled stream
- In YouTube Studio, select Content, then the Live tab.
- Hover over the scheduled source stream and select Edit.
- Open Customization.
- Under Redirect, select Add.
- Choose a Premiere, or search for another channel’s live stream.
- Save the configuration if YouTube prompts you.
YouTube’s Live Redirect instructions describe this as a setting on the source video. It takes effect when the source stream ends; it does not send viewers away before then.
Choose a destination viewers can reach

The destination picker does not show every channel or past broadcast. It can show a stream or Premiere only when it is active or upcoming and the destination creator’s redirect permissions allow your channel. See TeamYouTube’s explanation of destination availability.

Check eligibility and destination permissions
Requirements for the channel sending viewers
- Your channel must have more than 1,000 subscribers.
- Your channel must have no Community Guideline strikes.
Permission for another channel’s live stream
The destination creator controls who can redirect to their content. Their settings may allow channels they subscribe to, all channels, or specific approved channels. A specific-channel approval list can include up to 100 channels. If you cannot find the intended stream, check with its creator about permission as well as whether the stream is active or upcoming.
Prepare viewers for the handoff
- If the destination is a Premiere, set it up first, as YouTube recommends in its live stream settings guidance.
- Tell viewers to wait a few seconds after the source ends while their screens reload to the destination.
- YouTube recommends pinning a live chat message on the Premiere watch page that directs viewers to the live stream. If appropriate, the destination creator can also allow other streamers to redirect viewers to that destination. These are recommendations, not prerequisites.
Troubleshoot a missing destination or failed handoff
The destination does not appear in the picker
- It is not active or upcoming: the picker is not a directory of all channels or old broadcasts. Check that the destination is currently live or scheduled as upcoming.
- The destination creator has not allowed your channel: ask them to review their redirect permissions. They can allow channels they subscribe to, all channels, or selected channels.
- You are looking for a different destination type: the available choices described by YouTube are a Premiere or another channel’s live stream.
You cannot add or use a redirect
Check that the sending channel meets both eligibility requirements: more than 1,000 subscribers and no Community Guideline strikes. Also confirm you edited the scheduled source stream and opened Customization > Redirect.

Viewers do not move instantly
The redirect occurs after the source ends, and viewers may need to wait a few seconds for their screens to reload. Tell them in advance that the transition is not necessarily immediate.
