Use an end screen for clickable prompts shown during the final seconds of an eligible video. They serve different moments: an end screen is part of a video; Live Redirect is a post-stream handoff.

When to use Live Redirect
Choose Live Redirect when your goal is specifically, “When this broadcast ends, guide viewers to that live stream or Premiere.” YouTube’s current Live Redirect instructions say the feature is available to creators sending a redirect who have more than 1,000 subscribers and no Community Guideline strikes.
Allowing another channel to redirect to you
If you want another creator to send viewers to your live stream, configure the permission in YouTube Studio. YouTube offers options to allow channels you subscribe to (unless your subscriptions are private), all channels, or selected channels. The all-channels setting cannot be combined with the subscribed-channels setting or a manual list. You can add up to 100 channels to the selected-channel list, and that list can be used with the subscribed-channels setting.
Setting up a redirect from a live stream
- In YouTube Studio, open Content and select the Live tab.
- Edit the source live stream.
- Open Customization, find Redirect, and select Add.
- Choose a Premiere or search for another channel’s live stream. If you select another channel’s stream, make sure it permits redirects from your channel.
- Save the setup. YouTube says a confirmation appears when the live stream ends.
You can also configure a Premiere to redirect after it finishes. For a Premiere destination, create the Premiere before configuring the source stream’s redirect. YouTube recommends telling viewers to wait briefly at the end while their screens reload; its live-stream settings guidance suggests approximately two seconds for a Premiere reload. You can also pin a message on the Premiere watch page pointing viewers to the live stream.

A TeamYouTube announcement dated May 3, 2022 explains that viewers with autoplay turned off must click the play button to continue to the selected destination. See the TeamYouTube Live Redirect announcement. Because viewer behavior can change, check the current experience in YouTube if exact playback behavior matters for your event.
When to use an end screen
Choose an end screen when you want to offer a clickable next step as an eligible video is ending—not to automatically hand viewers off when a live broadcast finishes. YouTube allows end screens in a video’s last 5–20 seconds, and the video must be at least 25 seconds long. A standard 16:9 video can have up to four elements; other aspect ratios may allow fewer.

- A video or playlist, including content from your channel or another channel
- A subscription prompt
- A channel promotion
- An external website link, for channels in the YouTube Partner Program
Adding an end screen in YouTube Studio
- Open YouTube Studio and select Content.
- Select the video you want to edit.
- Choose Editor, then End screen.
- Add the elements you want, then adjust their timing and placement.
- Preview the end screen before saving. You can review its performance in YouTube Analytics.
Leave useful visual space in the video’s final 20 seconds so the elements do not obscure important content. YouTube’s end-screen guidance notes that end screens are unavailable for videos set as made for kids. They also may not appear in some contexts, including mobile web other than iPad mobile web, YouTube Music and YouTube Kids apps, Flash videos, and 360 videos. Viewers can hide them, and their display can vary with device, context, performance, and viewer behavior.
Can you use both?
Yes. They address separate viewer moments. Set up Live Redirect for the handoff after a live stream or Premiere ends, and add an end screen to a separate eligible video when you want a clickable prompt while that video is ending. Neither setting guarantees that every viewer will follow the suggested path.
