There is no single iPhone screenshot size: first choose a model or specify an exact viewport width and height. Then capture the page at that size in a browser preview tool, check the saved image’s pixel dimensions, and crop or resize it separately if the thumbnail needs a different final format.

Choose what “iPhone dimensions” means

A viewport describes the webpage’s visible area; it is not automatically the same as the exported image’s pixel dimensions. Choose a named device preset when the thumbnail should represent a particular model, or enter a custom width and height when the deliverable has specified dimensions. Avoid presenting one custom size as universal to every iPhone.

Pixel ratio matters too: it can affect resolution-dependent page behavior and which images the website serves. Set it deliberately when the preview tool offers that control, and inspect the exported file rather than assuming its pixel dimensions from the viewport alone.

Make a one-off screenshot in Chrome

  1. Open the webpage in Chrome and open DevTools.
  2. Enable the Device Toolbar, then choose a device preset or enter the requested custom width and height.
  3. Load or refresh the page at that viewport so the layout responds to the selected dimensions.
  4. Open the DevTools command menu and choose Capture screenshot for the visible viewport. Choose Capture a full size screenshot only if the thumbnail should include the entire page beyond the screen.
  5. Open the saved image or inspect its file properties to check its actual pixel dimensions. Crop or resize it for the destination thumbnail only after capture, and describe that final image as a crop or resize rather than the original viewport.

Chrome’s responsive width presets include 320px, 375px, and 425px; these are convenient tool presets, not definitive dimensions for all iPhones. Chrome describes Device Mode as simulating the mobile experience from a desktop, so use it as an emulated preview rather than proof of exact iPhone rendering. Chrome for Developers: Simulate mobile devices with device mode.

Preview with Safari Responsive Design Mode

  1. In Safari, enable the Develop menu if it is not visible, then choose Develop > Enter Responsive Design Mode.
  2. Select an available device preset or edit the effective viewport width and height in screen points.
  3. Set Pixel Ratio if the density-specific behavior or image selection matters to your preview.
  4. Capture the visible viewport, then verify the exported image dimensions and make any needed thumbnail crop separately.

Apple cautions that viewport presets approximate actual devices rather than reproducing their exact layout, rendering, and behavior. For a closer Apple-environment preview, use Simulator; validate on a physical iPhone when device-specific behavior is important. Apple Developer Documentation: Responsive Design Mode.

Automate repeatable screenshots with Playwright

For batches or repeatable captures, use Playwright’s device emulation and screenshot API. Choose a browser and device profile intentionally, and record the profile and viewport in your workflow so another run can reproduce the result. The following example uses Playwright’s iPhone 13 profile and saves the visible viewport as a PNG; change the profile to match the device you intend to represent.

Playwright supports emulating device settings such as viewport and screen size. A preset is an emulation profile, not evidence that the page has been rendered on the named physical phone. See Microsoft Playwright: Emulation.

Choose the capture method for the job

  • Chrome Device Mode: practical for a single screenshot and custom viewport sizes, with a quick visible-viewport or full-page capture option.
  • Safari Responsive Design Mode: useful for a Safari-oriented preview and adjustable screen-point size and pixel ratio; use Simulator when a closer Apple-environment check is needed.
  • Playwright: useful when captures must be repeatable or automated, in exchange for installing and maintaining an automation setup.
  • Real iPhone: the right validation when actual device behavior matters. Desktop emulation alone cannot establish that the page behaves exactly as it does on hardware.

ScreenshotNeo accepts cookie and consent banners before capture and removes more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets; each cleanup step can be turned off. Bot checks and CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits are not billed, and the response identifies the page verdict and billing status. It also provides an MCP server for AI agents. The Free plan includes 1,000 screenshots per month without a card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000 shots. See ScreenshotNeo or sign up for 1,000 free screenshots a month with no card.

Check the result before using it

  • Confirm whether the file shows just the visible viewport or the whole page.
  • Check the saved pixel dimensions; do not infer them solely from the screen-point or CSS viewport size.
  • Make any destination-specific crop or resize after capture, and keep the original viewport capture if you need to show what was actually previewed.
  • If a layout difference matters, verify it in Simulator or on a real iPhone rather than relying only on desktop emulation.
