Thumbalizr’s documented Embed API can generate a thumbnail for each website URL in a list, but the documented workflow is one signed request per URL—not a built-in bulk-upload control. Create an account, use its API key and secret to sign each encoded request, process the URLs in a loop, and check the response headers so your batch can record successes and failures. The steps below cover the API workflow and the plan limits to check before a large run.

What “bulk” means with Thumbalizr

Thumbalizr describes its service as a way to capture website screenshots and embed thumbnails on your own site. Its Embed API returns a URL for an individual capture. The reviewed API documentation provides per-request examples, not a bulk-upload interface, so bulk creation means automating a request for each URL in your list.

Thumbalizr’s documentation and pricing pages refer to Thumbalizr. In an April 8, 2026 blog post, the company announced a phased move of its screenshot engine from Browshot infrastructure to ScreenshotCenter: new accounts were to use ScreenshotCenter first, followed by existing accounts in batches. The post said existing integrations, API calls, embed codes, and settings were intended to keep working, but it announced a rollout rather than confirming that it is complete. Check the current account documentation if your workflow depends on which backend handles captures. The post also mentioned planned capabilities such as additional locations, ad and popup filtering, video recordings, PDFs, and expanded device emulation; do not assume those are currently available based on that announcement alone.

Set up access and protect the signing secret

  1. Create a Thumbalizr account and obtain the API key and secret in the member area, as described in the official API documentation. Thumbalizr’s homepage says registration for a basic API key is free.

  2. Store the secret in a server-side environment variable or secrets manager. Do not put it in browser-side JavaScript or a publicly served page: the API token is computed from the request query and secret, and exposing the secret would let others construct signed requests.

  3. Keep the target URLs in a file, database, or queue, then generate and submit one request for each URL. Encode query parameters correctly—especially the target URL—before calculating the token. Use the precise signing procedure and parameter ordering described in Thumbalizr’s API documentation.

The examples on Thumbalizr’s documentation page include PHP, Python, Ruby, Perl, and Bash. Follow the official signing example for the language you use; do not substitute a generic hash recipe, since token construction depends on the exact query string.

Choose consistent capture settings for the batch

The API documentation says the target url is the only required parameter; other settings can default to the account profile. Set options explicitly where consistency matters, and confirm the limits available to your tier before generating a large batch.

Setting What it controls Important qualification
width Output thumbnail width in pixels. The documented maximum varies by tier, from 1 to 2,000 pixels depending on plan.
format JPG or PNG output. Use the format supported by your downstream site or storage workflow.
quality JPEG quality. The documented range is 10–100; it applies to JPEG output.
timestamp Requests a refreshed capture using a timestamp value. Refresh behavior is available on paid tiers, according to the API documentation.
size Capture the full page or the visible screen. The free tier is listed as screen-size only; paid plans include full-page capture.
delay Wait before capture so page content can load. The documented range is 1–30 seconds; the page shows a five-second default for Free and Silver.
bwidth, bheight Browser viewport width and height. These are viewport dimensions, distinct from the output thumbnail width.
country Capture location. The plan table lists US or Germany locations; availability depends on tier.
Watermark option Controls whether a watermark appears, where supported. Availability varies by plan; check the current tier table.

Because default values may come from your account profile, two batches run under different profiles can produce different-looking results if you omit options. Record the chosen settings alongside each batch so you can reproduce the same viewport, size, delay, and output format later.

Automate a batch and track each result

  1. Normalize and validate the input list. Remove empty entries and decide how to handle duplicate URLs before spending quota.

  2. For each URL, assemble the desired API parameters and encode them correctly. Compute the request token using the query-string-plus-secret procedure in the official documentation.

  3. Submit each signed request and save the resulting embed URL or capture output according to the documented API response. Keep a record linking the original URL, request settings, and result.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  4. Inspect response headers. X-Thumbalizr-Status can report QUEUED, OK, or FAILED; X-Thumbalizr-Generated gives a generation date; and X-Thumbalizr-Error gives an error reason.

  5. Treat QUEUED as not yet confirmed successful. Follow the API’s documented retrieval or polling behavior for your account, and mark the item complete only when the capture is available. For FAILED, save the error reason and decide whether the cause is correctable before retrying.

Use a modest, controlled request rate rather than launching an unbounded burst. The reviewed documentation establishes per-request behavior and monthly quotas, but does not establish a universal concurrency limit or a specific retry policy. Avoid retrying a failed URL indefinitely: log the failure, correct invalid encoding or settings, then retry selectively.

Check quota and pricing before a large run

Thumbalizr’s Features & Pricing page displayed the following monthly quotas and prices when accessed in 2026. Treat these as page-published figures, not a promise of the checkout amount: the page says premium plans can be monthly subscriptions or one-time payments, and prices and currency handling should be confirmed in the live account flow before a substantial batch.

Plan / listed quantity Displayed monthly quota Displayed price on the page accessed in 2026
Free 100 screenshots per month Not stated
Silver 2,000 screenshots per month €8 / $9 for one month
Gold 3,000 screenshots per month €12 / $13 for one month
Platinum 5,000 screenshots per month €18 / $20 for 5,000; €34 / $37 for 10,000; €80 / $86 for 25,000

The page also describes Platinum as “5,000 and more” screenshots per month. Confirm the exact allowance and price shown for the plan you intend to use. A useful estimate is the number of distinct captures you expect to request in a billing month, including deliberate refreshes; do not assume a cached or repeated URL is free unless Thumbalizr’s current terms say so.

See Thumbalizr’s Features & Pricing page for the live plan presentation and API parameter documentation for tier-dependent settings.

Or skip the browser setup

If your goal is a clean screenshot API workflow rather than specifically using Thumbalizr, ScreenshotNeo returns a screenshot or PDF from one GET request and has an MCP server for AI agents. It accepts cookie or consent banners like a visitor and removes 60+ known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before capture; each cleanup step can be disabled. Bot checks or CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits cost nothing, and the response identifies the page verdict and billing status.

For example, with the target URL adapted to your needs:

curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp

See the ScreenshotNeo API documentation for request parameters and setup. ScreenshotNeo offers 1,000 screenshots a month free with no card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000, and every feature is on every plan. Sign up for the free plan.
