To label sections of a continuous yoga stream, add manual video chapters to its YouTube replay: open the archived stream in YouTube Studio, edit its description, and add accurate timestamp-and-title lines. YouTube’s chapter rules require a starting timestamp of 00:00, at least three timestamps in ascending order, and chapters at least 10 seconds long. Applying the video chapter workflow to a live replay follows YouTube’s guidance that replays appear as videos on your channel.
Add session labels to the replay
- Wait for the stream archive. In YouTube Studio, open Content and select the Live tab. Find the stream replay and open its details. YouTube’s archive guidance says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived; streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured. Keep a local recording backup if retaining the class matters.
- Build timestamp-title entries from the finished replay. Review the replay and note when each session or practice segment begins. Use the actual replay times, not estimates based on your planned class schedule.
- Edit the description. In the replay’s details in YouTube Studio, add the timestamp-title pairs to the video description and save. YouTube documents chapters for videos; using that procedure for a live archive is an application of its video and archive guidance.
- Check the result. Play around each timestamp to confirm that the label describes the practice section beginning there. Viewers can use chapter divisions on the progress bar or chapter titles in the description and player to navigate the replay.
Follow YouTube’s manual chapter rules
YouTube Help specifies these requirements for manual chapters:
- The first timestamp must start with
00:00(or0:00). - List at least three timestamps in ascending order.
- Each chapter must be at least 10 seconds long.
- Put each timestamp and its title in the video description, then save the change in YouTube Studio.
For example, this is a format template only; replace the times and labels with boundaries that match your replay:
00:00 Welcome and breath setting
08:30 Seated warm-up
18:00 Standing flow
34:00 Balance work
46:00 Cool-down and savasanaManual chapters take more preparation than automatic ones, but let you choose meaningful yoga-specific labels and boundaries. YouTube says manually entered chapters override automatic chapters.

Manual versus automatic chapters

Enable automatic chapters in YouTube Studio if the option is available for the video. Use manual entries when the viewer needs labels such as “standing flow,” “balance work,” or “cool-down” rather than automatically selected sections.
If chapters do not appear
- Check the format: start at
00:00, include at least three timestamp-title entries, and put them in ascending order. - Check chapter length: make sure each section lasts at least 10 seconds.
- Check access and eligibility: YouTube says creators without chapter access can apply for advanced features. Chapters may be unavailable when a channel has active strikes or the content is potentially inappropriate to some viewers.
- Save and inspect the replay again: confirm that the edited description was saved on the archived video, then check the player and description.
