If a YouTube playlist edit seems to disappear, first confirm it with the interface’s commit control, then reopen the playlist and check the exact field or order you changed. Desktop uses Done, the YouTube app on iPhone and iPad uses a checkmark, and YouTube Studio on Android uses Save. If a confirmed edit still reverts, use the checks below to narrow down the issue without assuming a particular cause.
Confirm the edit in the interface you used
YouTube’s editing controls differ by device. Make the change and use the matching confirmation action before leaving the page.
On a computer
- Open YouTube and select the playlist from the Guide.
- Select Edit beside the relevant section.
- For a title or description, change the field and click Done. In the described flow for adding a description, click outside the edit box to save.
- To change the order, drag a video or Short up or down on the playlist page.
If the controls do not match these steps, YouTube says you may be using an older version of the site; update to the current YouTube version.
On iPhone or iPad
- Open the YouTube app, go to Library, and select the playlist.
- Tap Edit and change the title or description.
- Tap the checkmark in the upper corner to confirm.
- To reorder items, press and hold the two-line handle beside a video or Short, then drag it.
In YouTube Studio on Android
- Open YouTube Studio and go to Content.
- Choose the Playlists tab, open the playlist’s options, and tap Edit.
- Change the title, description, privacy, or order, then tap Save.
- To change a video’s playlist membership, edit the video, adjust its playlist checkbox, tap Done, then tap Save.
Check that the change actually persisted
After confirming, navigate away and reopen the playlist; on desktop, you can also refresh the page. Inspect the specific item you changed: title, description, visibility, membership, or order. This is a practical verification step, not a special YouTube-prescribed repair for failed edits.

- No more juggling remotes: Power up your TV, adjust the volume, and control your Roku device with one remote. Use your voice to quickly search, play entertainment, and more.

- TV, simplified: With setup that only takes minutes, a simple-to-navigate Home Screen, and an uncluttered remote control that does all you need—Roku makes it easier to watch the TV you love.
For diagnosis, try one small change at a time. If a reorder seems to change only while you are viewing a video, make the edit from the playlist page and then reopen it to check the playlist’s order. A drag in a watch-page panel may be a temporary viewing order rather than a saved playlist order.
Why won’t my YouTube playlist changes save?
Separate the symptom before trying more edits. A title or description that reverts is different from a privacy setting that did not change, a video that remains in the playlist, or an order that cannot be rearranged.

- Shows on the go: Take your TV to-go when traveling—without needing to log into someone else’s device.
- Title or description: repeat the edit and use Done, the iOS checkmark, or Android Studio’s Save, as appropriate.
- Visibility: choose the intended privacy value in the playlist’s visibility controls and confirm the change.
- Add or remove a video: check the playlist membership after saving; in Studio’s documented video flow, both Done and Save are required.
- Order: edit from the playlist page and confirm the result by reopening it. If the playlist contains only Shorts, manual reordering is unavailable.
Set playlist visibility separately
Playlist visibility can be Public, Private, or Unlisted. In YouTube Studio, open Content > Playlists > Details, choose the visibility, and select Save. In the YouTube app, open the playlist’s edit controls, choose the privacy value, and save.
- Public: anyone can watch and share the playlist.
- Unlisted: people with the link can watch and share it.
- Private: the playlist is not shareable by URL, according to YouTube’s visibility guidance.
Visibility determines access and discoverability; it does not establish why another playlist edit might revert.

Why does my playlist order keep changing back?
First check where you reordered the items. Use the playlist page’s reorder controls, then reopen the playlist to verify the order. A change in a watch-page panel may be temporary rather than a change to the saved playlist.
There is also a specific feature limit: YouTube says manual reordering is not available when a playlist contains only Shorts. If that is your playlist, the unavailable reorder control is a limitation, not evidence that a save failed.

Check account and software eligibility
YouTube’s playlist-editing guidance warns that the feature may not be available for supervised accounts. If the current steps do not match your screen, check that YouTube and your browser are current; YouTube notes that older site versions may not follow current desktop instructions and older browsers can have trouble with newer features. These are checks to make, not proof that account eligibility or outdated software caused an edit to revert.

For developers editing playlists through the YouTube Data API
This applies only to API integrations, not ordinary edits in YouTube’s apps or site. The YouTube Data API playlists.update documentation says the request modifies playlist data and requires authorization. It also warns that omitting snippet.description from the request deletes the existing description. Check the request body before treating a missing description as a consumer-app saving problem.
Or let it run in the cloud
For a different task—keeping uploaded videos live on a YouTube channel around the clock—StreamNeo is a cloud service, not a playlist-editing fix. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. StreamNeo loops the uploaded videos from the cloud, so your computer and home connection do not have to stay on. It automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream, supports any uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, and the first day is free with no card. The monthly option is $9.99 per month. Start your free day with StreamNeo.
