Reopen the playlist details to check which setting is selected. YouTube’s help guidance does not identify a universal cause or a guaranteed waiting period for a setting that still appears unchanged.
Change playlist visibility in YouTube Studio
For a creator’s playlist on a computer, use this route:
- Sign in to YouTube Studio with the account that owns the playlist.
- Select Content, then Playlists.
- Find the playlist and open Details.
- Under Visibility, choose Public, Unlisted, or Private.
- Click Save.
- If the page still seems unchanged, reopen the playlist details and inspect the selected visibility. This is a practical confirmation step, not a separate procedure YouTube documents as a formal fix.
YouTube also documents changing playlist privacy through the regular YouTube interface. On desktop, open the You tab, select Playlists, open the full playlist, and choose its privacy option beneath the title. On Android, tap your profile picture, open Playlists and View all, select the playlist, tap Edit, choose a privacy setting, and tap Save. Labels and routes can vary by platform and interface version.
Check what the selected privacy setting actually does
A playlist can appear not to have updated if you expect it to show up somewhere its selected setting does not allow. YouTube’s playlist privacy guidance describes these differences:

For example, an unlisted playlist is intended to be reached through its link, not found through normal search. A public playlist may be accessible by link without appearing immediately in the particular place you expected.
Rule out account and setting limitations
Confirm you own the playlist
YouTube says playlist owners can change playlist privacy. Make sure the signed-in account is the owner; being able to view or edit other playlist details does not establish that the account can change its visibility.

Check whether the account is supervised
YouTube warns that playlist privacy features may not be available for supervised accounts. If the visibility control is missing, this is a documented limitation to check.
Separate playlist visibility from channel privacy
A channel’s Privacy setting for saved playlists and activity controls whether saved playlists or activity appear on the channel. It is different from changing the visibility of a playlist you own. If the issue is that saved playlists or likes appear on your channel, look for the channel’s Privacy controls rather than editing the playlist’s Visibility.

Do not confuse editing with the public-playlist creation limit
YouTube documents a daily limit on creating public playlists across YouTube, YouTube Music, and the YouTube API, and says access to advanced features can increase that limit. The documented limit concerns creating public playlists; YouTube does not say it prevents changing the privacy of an existing playlist.
Consider an older unlisted playlist only if its history fits
YouTube says it made unlisted videos uploaded before January 1, 2017 private beginning July 23, 2021, unless the creator opted out, and notes that some older unlisted playlists were also created in the old system. This historical change may explain an unexpected state for a legacy playlist; it is not evidence of a general current failure.

If the setting still will not save
- Work out whether you are changing the playlist itself or trying to hide saved playlists or activity on your channel.
- Confirm you are signed in as the playlist owner.
- Try the documented Studio route: Content > Playlists > Details > Visibility, select the intended option, and click Save.
- Reopen the details and check the selected option, then compare it with the expected behavior of Public, Unlisted, or Private.
- If the control is unavailable, check whether the account is supervised. If you are creating a new public playlist rather than editing an existing one, consider YouTube’s documented daily creation limit.
If the setting does not persist after these checks, YouTube’s current help material does not identify a universal cause or say how long an update should take. It therefore does not support promising that waiting, clearing a browser cache, switching browsers, or changing devices will fix the problem. Note what happens after you click Save—including whether you see an error and which option appears when you reopen Details—and consult YouTube’s current Help or Creator support channels.
