You can play local relaxation videos one after another in a YouTube live stream using OBS Studio’s VLC Video source. Add the video files to its playlist, arrange them in the order you want, and leave Shuffle Playlist off. The videos are sent to YouTube as one encoder stream; a playlist page on YouTube does not queue files from your computer into a live broadcast.
Set up an ordered playlist in OBS
- Install OBS Studio and VLC. OBS’s VLC Video source requires VLC. If you use 64-bit OBS, install 64-bit VLC as well. If the source does not appear after installation, restart OBS. See the OBS media sources guide.
- Choose the scene for your stream. In OBS, select an existing scene or create one for the relaxation broadcast.
- Add the playlist source. In the Sources panel, select +, choose VLC Video, and create or select the source.
- Add and order the files. Add each local clip to the VLC Video playlist, then verify the displayed sequence. Do not assume OBS has automatically imported and sorted every file in a folder: the documented workflow is a playlist of media items, and you should check the order yourself.
- Set playback behavior. Keep Shuffle Playlist off to play clips in their listed order. Leave Loop Playlist on if the sequence should start again after the final file; turn it off if playback should stop at the end.
- Preview before going live. Check the picture and sound in OBS, and rehearse the sequence. YouTube recommends testing and previewing an encoder stream before broadcasting.
For this straightforward in-order setup, a VLC Video playlist is the simpler documented option. Separate media sources arranged across scenes may be useful when you need more direct per-clip scene control, but that approach requires managing the scenes and transitions yourself.
Connect OBS to your YouTube live stream
- Open YouTube’s encoder setup guidance and go to the stream setup in YouTube Studio.
- Copy the server URL and stream key shown for your stream into OBS’s streaming settings. The server URL tells the encoder where to send the video; the stream key identifies the stream. Treat the key like a password and do not share it.
- Start the stream from OBS, then check the preview in YouTube’s Live Control Room before making the broadcast public.
A regular YouTube playlist is separate from this setup: it organizes videos on YouTube but does not feed local files into an encoder broadcast. The VLC playlist must be part of the OBS output that you send to YouTube.
Check YouTube eligibility before scheduling
YouTube’s live-streaming guidance says a channel must be verified and have no live-streaming restrictions in the prior 90 days; streamers must be at least 16. First-time live activation can take up to 24 hours, so check the channel’s Live Control Room well before you plan to start.

Handle copyright and monetization carefully
Use video and audio you are allowed to stream
You are responsible for having the rights needed for the live content, including music. YouTube scans live streams for third-party content, and may interrupt a stream when it detects content belonging to others. A file being on your computer—or a general license—does not necessarily mean your channel is cleared for this live use. YouTube notes that even licensed content may be interrupted if the rights holder has not added your channel to its Content ID allowlist. Read YouTube’s guidance on copyright issues with live streams.
Do not assume a loop is monetizable
YouTube’s monetization policy update dated July 15, 2025 renamed “repetitious content” to “inauthentic content” and clarified that repetitive or mass-produced material can be ineligible for monetization, including on live streams. That policy does not determine the outcome for every relaxation stream or channel. Review YouTube’s channel monetization policies and avoid assuming that looping videos will qualify.

Keep the broadcast running without leaving your computer on
If you want to run the playlist from your own computer, OBS sends it to YouTube while that computer and its internet connection remain available. For a cloud option, StreamNeo keeps an uploaded-video YouTube stream running from the cloud: upload your recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. Nothing has to stay on at home; uploaded files stream as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one flat price per slot. If YouTube drops the stream, StreamNeo automatically recovers. The first day is free with no card. Monthly pricing is $9.99 per month. Start your free first day with StreamNeo.

Troubleshoot common playlist problems
- VLC Video is missing: Install VLC, make sure its architecture matches OBS (64-bit OBS needs 64-bit VLC), then restart OBS.
- Clips play in the wrong order: Check the order shown in the VLC Video playlist and confirm that Shuffle Playlist is off.
- The sequence stops after the last clip: Turn on Loop Playlist if you want playback to restart at the beginning.
- YouTube does not receive the broadcast: Recheck the server URL and stream key in OBS against the current values in YouTube Studio. Keep the key private.
- The live stream is interrupted: Check YouTube Studio for alerts, including copyright notices, and confirm that your channel remains eligible to stream.
