No. YouTube Live’s documented workflow does not let you select an existing playlist of recorded lectures and have YouTube play it automatically. Live receives a feed from an encoder. To broadcast recordings as a live event, you need an external playback source and an encoder to send that source to YouTube.
What YouTube Live does—and does not—automate
YouTube’s documented process is to create or schedule a live stream in YouTube Studio, copy the stream URL and key into an encoder, configure the encoder, then send the feed. For a scheduled broadcast, you start the encoder and use Live Control Room to preview and start the event. YouTube describes an encoder as streaming software or hardware that turns a selected source into the live feed.
Scheduling creates an upcoming event that you can promote and that may notify viewers; it does not create a job to play a playlist of uploaded lectures. Likewise, encoder auto-start and auto-stop controls concern starting or stopping the stream connection. They do not select recordings or advance through a YouTube playlist. How to broadcast recorded lectures as a live event
The practical route is to play the recordings outside YouTube and send that playback through an encoder as a live feed. YouTube’s help documentation establishes the encoder connection, but does not prescribe a particular playlist application or confirm which third-party products automate sequential playback.

- Choose a playback source. Arrange the lecture files in the order you want them played. If you need unattended sequencing, verify that the playback software or hardware you choose explicitly supports it; YouTube’s playlist feature is not the live input.
- Create or schedule the live stream in YouTube Studio. For a scheduled event, configure its event details and timing, then open Live Control Room when it is time to broadcast.
- Copy the stream URL and key into the encoder. The encoder must receive the playback source and send its output to the YouTube event. Keep the stream key private.
- Configure and start the encoder. Confirm the lecture playback is reaching the encoder, then begin sending the feed. For a scheduled broadcast, preview it in Live Control Room and start the event there.
- Monitor playback and the live event. Check that the correct lecture is playing and that the live feed remains active. The exact playlist automation and recovery controls depend on the chosen external setup; YouTube’s cited guidance does not specify them.
Plan around the live archive limit
YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours can be automatically archived; streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all. A long-running lecture broadcast may therefore lack a complete YouTube archive. Check YouTube’s current live-stream archive guidance, and keep a separate local recording when retaining the full broadcast matters.
