How do I use Gyre with an unlisted YouTube stream for testing? Create or schedule a YouTube broadcast, set its visibility to Unlisted, connect Gyre using the setup available for your account, then start the broadcast in YouTube Live Control Room when its preview is ready. An unlisted stream is not private: anyone who has its link can watch.
Choose the right kind of test
YouTube has two distinct testing paths. An unlisted broadcast is an audience-facing live stream that viewers can watch using its link. A private monitor stream is a separate output for the creator to preview and test; it is not the same broadcast with a different visibility setting. YouTube’s API documentation describes the monitor and broadcast streams as separate outputs: YouTube Live Streaming API Overview.
| Option | Who can watch | Audience-facing broadcast? | Gyre connection |
|---|---|---|---|
| Unlisted broadcast | Anyone with the link | Yes | Depending on your setup, authorize your YouTube channel through Gyre or enter YouTube’s stream URL and key manually. |
| Private monitor stream | The creator, for preview and testing | No; the monitor output is separate from the broadcast. | The monitor is a YouTube API output, not an alternative privacy setting for a Gyre broadcast. |
Use Unlisted if designated testers need to watch the actual audience-facing broadcast. Use the monitor stream when the test is only for your own preview. Do not send an unlisted link to anyone who should not be able to watch.
Set up an unlisted test with Gyre
Gyre describes both YouTube channel authorization, which can create a broadcast and bind a stream key, and a manual URL-and-key workflow for some configurations. Follow the workflow shown for your account rather than assuming the same controls appear for every setup. See Gyre’s guidance: Gyre update: full live stream automation via YouTube API and How to stream pre-recorded video as live with Gyre in 2026.

- Compact without compromises: The sleek design of Roku Streaming Stick won’t block neighboring HDMI ports, and it even powers from your TV alone, plugging into the back and staying out of sight. No wall outlet, no extra cords, no clutter.

- TV, simplified: With setup that only takes minutes, a simple-to-navigate Home Screen, and an uncluttered remote control that does all you need—Roku makes it easier to watch the TV you love.
- Create the YouTube broadcast. In YouTube Studio, open Live Control Room and create or schedule a live stream. In the stream’s visibility settings, select Unlisted. YouTube supports public, private, and unlisted visibility; see Manage live stream settings.
- Connect Gyre. If Gyre offers YouTube channel authorization for your account, authorize the channel and use the broadcast/key binding it creates. If you are using manual encoder setup, copy the stream URL and stream key from YouTube Live Control Room into Gyre’s applicable stream settings. Treat the key as a secret: anyone who obtains it may be able to send video to your stream.
- Start the feed from Gyre. Start the Gyre stream or encoder feed using the selected video and settings. Wait for YouTube Live Control Room to show the incoming signal and preview.
- Start the audience-facing broadcast. When the preview appears, click Go live in Live Control Room if YouTube presents that control. Starting the encoder or Gyre feed alone does not necessarily publish the broadcast.
- Share the link carefully. Copy the unlisted watch link from YouTube and give it only to intended testers. Anyone who receives it can watch and may pass it along.
- End the test cleanly. End the live stream in YouTube, then stop Gyre or the encoder feed. YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours are automatically archived after ending; check the recording’s visibility settings rather than assuming the archive will retain the live stream’s unlisted status. Setup and ending steps are covered in Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder.

Do I need to click Go live in YouTube after starting Gyre?
For the encoder workflow described here, yes: wait for YouTube’s preview, then click Go live if Live Control Room presents that control. Starting the feed is not necessarily the same as publishing the broadcast.
