Quick wins for a faster PC:
Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →A low-cost line-interactive UPS is a sensible category to consider for keeping a Raspberry Pi and its network equipment powered through short mains interruptions—but no particular model can be named as the best without knowing your Pi model, connected devices, required backup time, and budget. Size the UPS for the combined load, connect the modem/router as well as the Pi, and treat internet continuity as a separate requirement: a UPS cannot prevent an ISP or line outage.
What a UPS can—and cannot—keep running
A UPS supplies temporary power to equipment plugged into it when mains power fails. For a Pi-based YouTube encoder, the relevant equipment may include the Pi, any attached storage or other peripherals, and the modem/router or other network gear needed to reach YouTube.
If the Pi stays powered but the modem or router loses power, the stream can still lose its connection. YouTube warns that a connectivity disruption could mean a broken stream (YouTube streaming tips). A UPS also cannot fix an ISP outage, a failed internet line, or other service-side interruption; it only provides local power to connected devices.
Choose by connected load, not by a headline capacity
Start with the Pi’s recommended supply
Use the recommendation for your exact Pi model as a starting point. Raspberry Pi documentation specifies a 5 V, 5 A (27 W) USB-C supply for Raspberry Pi 5 and a 5 V, 3 A (15 W) USB-C supply for Raspberry Pi 4 Model B (Raspberry Pi getting-started documentation). These are recommended power-supply requirements—not measured streaming consumption and not a UPS capacity recommendation. Peripherals and the rest of the setup affect the total load.

Add every device that must survive an outage
- List the Pi and its attached peripherals, including any storage or adapters that need power.
- Check the modem, router, and any other network equipment required to maintain the connection.
- For each device, record its power requirement from its label or manufacturer documentation. Check that the UPS provides compatible output and that any required Pi power supply or adapter can be connected safely.
- Use the total connected load and the backup duration you need when comparing a UPS’s specifications. Confirm the manufacturer’s runtime rating for a comparable load; battery condition and actual load affect runtime.
A capacity figure by itself does not tell you how long your particular Pi-and-network setup will run. No specific UPS model, actual combined load, or endurance test is established here, so a precise runtime would be guesswork.
What to look for when shopping in India
“Line-interactive UPS for Raspberry Pi and router” is a useful category search, not an endorsement of a particular unit. Before buying, compare output voltage and current with your power supplies, connector compatibility, rated capacity, manufacturer runtime under a comparable load, whether the modem/router can also be powered, battery replacement options, warranty, and local availability and price. Do not rely on a runtime claim unless its stated test load is close to your own.

Prepare YouTube and the connection before relying on the setup
Confirm that the channel is eligible to stream
YouTube says the channel must be verified and must not have had live-streaming restrictions in the prior 90 days. Check the current YouTube live-streaming eligibility requirements before planning a continuous stream.
Configure the encoder and protect the stream key
An encoder stream uses a server URL and stream key. Follow YouTube’s current encoder setup instructions to find and enter those values. Treat the stream key as a credential: do not publish it or share it, and replace it in YouTube if it is exposed.

Allow upload headroom and test stream health
YouTube recommends leaving 20% upload-bandwidth headroom above the total stream bitrate, and advises testing before going live and monitoring stream health (streaming tips). That is headroom guidance, not a guarantee that an internet plan will sustain a stream: check actual upload performance at the location and account for other devices using the connection.
For one specific example, YouTube’s encoder settings recommend 8 Mbps H.264 bitrate for 720p at 30 fps (YouTube encoder settings). This is a platform-recommended ingest bitrate for that setting, not an India-wide minimum upload speed. Use the guidance for the resolution, frame rate, and codec you actually plan to stream.

Test the whole backup path before an outage
- Connect the Pi and the network equipment the stream depends on to the UPS, within the manufacturer’s load limits.
- Start the encoder and confirm the stream reaches YouTube and reports healthy status before depending on it.
- With a planned, controlled test, simulate a mains interruption according to the UPS manufacturer’s instructions. Check that the Pi, modem/router, and stream remain available; stop the test if equipment behaves unexpectedly.
- Observe the result under your real connected load. If the UPS does not provide the backup time you need, reduce the load only where safe or select a unit whose manufacturer rating better matches the requirement.
Common problems and what to check
- The Pi remains on, but the stream disconnects: Check whether the modem/router or another required network device lost power. Also check the internet line and ISP; battery backup cannot remedy a service outage.
- The UPS shuts down sooner than expected: Compare the connected equipment with the manufacturer’s runtime rating and check the battery’s condition. A rating based on a different load does not establish your setup’s runtime.
- The encoder cannot connect or YouTube reports a stream problem: Confirm the server URL and stream key, channel eligibility, actual upload performance, and stream health. Use YouTube’s current encoder setup and streaming guidance.
- The stream is unstable despite backup power: Check upload headroom, competing network use, and whether the connection itself is being disrupted. A UPS addresses power, not bandwidth or connectivity.
Or let it run in the cloud
A UPS helps keep a local Pi encoder and network gear powered; it does not remove the need to keep those devices at home or solve an internet outage. If your goal is to loop uploaded, pre-recorded videos as a YouTube live stream, StreamNeo is a cloud alternative: upload a video or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. It does not stream from a camera.
Nothing has to stay on at home for the cloud stream to run. Every slot streams the uploaded file as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one price per slot; StreamNeo automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card, one free day per account. Monthly pricing is $9.99 per month. UPI and cards are supported in India; card checkout is available worldwide.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can a Raspberry Pi stream to YouTube without a UPS?
Yes, if the Pi and network equipment remain powered. A UPS is backup power rather than a YouTube streaming requirement.
Does a UPS keep a stream online during an internet outage?
No. It supplies local power to connected equipment; it cannot restore a failed internet line or ISP service.
