To convert an existing webpage with APITemplate.io, use its browser converter for an occasional manual download or send a JSON request to POST https://rest.apitemplate.io/v2/create-pdf-from-url for an automated workflow. The API requires the target page’s URL and your API key in the X-API-KEY header; a successful response example includes a download_url.
Choose the APITemplate.io method that fits your content

APITemplate documents these as separate conversion approaches. Use URL conversion when the content already exists as a live webpage; choose HTML or Markdown when you control the source content, and a template when you repeatedly produce documents in a consistent layout. Convert a URL with the browser tool
- Open APITemplate.io’s online HTML-to-PDF converter and select URL conversion.
- Enter the webpage address you want to convert.
- Set page size, orientation, and margins as needed. Review the available options, including print-stylesheet behavior, if shown.
- Run the conversion and download the PDF promptly.
The converter page states a limit of up to 10 PDF documents per hour and says generated PDFs expire after two hours. These limits apply to that browser tool and may change; check its current page before depending on them.
Call the URL-to-PDF API
Send a POST request to https://rest.apitemplate.io/v2/create-pdf-from-url with a JSON body. Put your API key in the X-API-KEY header and the page address in the required url field. The following cURL example uses the settings shown in APITemplate’s documentation; adjust the paper and margins for your intended output.

}'The API documentation describes rendering in a headless Chromium browser, with support for modern CSS and JavaScript. This explains the rendering approach; it does not guarantee identical output for every site or page.
Settings in the documented request
url: The webpage to convert.paper_size: The paper format; the example usesA4.orientation: Orientation setting; the example sends"1".margin_top,margin_right,margin_bottom,margin_left: Margins in the example are"40","10","40", and"10", respectively.print_background: The example sets this to"1"to include print backgrounds.
The example represents documented values, not a universal recommendation. Choose settings based on the page’s print layout and inspect the resulting PDF.
Read the response and retrieve the PDF
In APITemplate’s documented success example, the JSON response has status: success and a download_url. Treat that as the documented response pattern: check the actual response before trying to retrieve a file, then download the PDF from the returned URL. Do not assume every conversion produces identical output or a valid result if the target page fails to render.

Pages that may need another approach
The documented URL workflow is for a publicly accessible or otherwise authorized webpage. The reviewed product documentation does not establish that URL conversion supports pages requiring a login or session cookies. Do not assume it can access private account content. If you control the content, consider supplying the underlying HTML, Markdown, or data to a suitable APITemplate workflow instead.
Some pages depend on user interaction or dynamic content, and CSS that looks good on screen may paginate poorly on paper. The available documentation does not establish exact fidelity for authenticated, paywalled, or interaction-dependent pages. Open the generated PDF and check for clipped text, awkward page breaks, missing images or fonts, and content that appears only after interaction.
Batching, throughput, and reliability
APITemplate says URL conversion is synchronous by default. Its REST guide also documents asynchronous generation for large or batch jobs, with a transaction reference and webhook notification. Consult the REST API guide for the current workflow and constraints before designing a production queue.

The REST guide publishes limits of 100 requests per 10 seconds per IP and 100 concurrent synchronous PDF-generation requests per account. It also discusses regional endpoints, payload-size considerations, and limits on binary file responses. These are APITemplate service constraints, not general PDF limits, and should be verified against the current guide before capacity planning.
- For a small interactive task, a synchronous call is simpler: wait for the response and handle its success or error.
- For large or batch work, use the documented asynchronous path and webhook rather than assuming synchronous requests will scale without queueing.
- Build in response validation and failure handling; a target page’s availability and rendering behavior affect whether a useful PDF can be produced.
Troubleshoot common conversion problems
Authentication or request rejected
Confirm that the request is a POST, that the API key is present in the X-API-KEY header, and that the body is valid JSON with the Content-Type: application/json header. Keep the key private rather than embedding it in public client-side code.
The response has no usable download URL
Check the response status and body before attempting a download. The documented success example includes status: success and download_url; an unsuccessful or different response needs to be handled as an error rather than treated as a PDF link.

Text, images, or backgrounds are missing
Check that the target URL is accessible to the conversion service and that the content is available without a login or interaction the documented workflow does not establish. Review print styling and the print_background setting, then regenerate and inspect the PDF.
Content is clipped or breaks badly across pages
Try a different paper size, orientation, or margins. A page designed for scrolling on screen may not have a clean print layout, so verify page boundaries and legibility in the resulting file.
Requests are slow or fail during a batch
Review the current REST guide’s request-rate and concurrency limits. For large workloads, use its asynchronous generation and webhook workflow; avoid treating service limits as a target rate without allowing for page-rendering failures and retries.
