To create a 24/7 YouTube study beats radio stream with a static image, prepare music and artwork you have the necessary rights to use, enable live streaming on an eligible YouTube channel, then send a continuous audio-and-video feed from an encoder to YouTube. YouTube hosts the live stream; your encoder, computer, power and internet connection must keep supplying it unless you use a cloud service.

First-time live-stream activation can take up to 24 hours, so enable it before you plan to launch. The steps below cover a do-it-yourself setup, YouTube’s key encoder settings, rights checks, testing and common failure points.

What you need before starting

  • A YouTube channel that is verified, has no live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days, and is operated by someone at least 16 years old. First-time activation may take up to 24 hours. See YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility requirements.
  • An encoder: software running on a computer or a standalone hardware encoder. YouTube’s setup guidance describes both options: Create a live stream with an encoder.
  • A continuous audio/video feed: your study-beats audio paired with a still image. Choose an image and music for which you have rights for live use.
  • A reliable upload connection and power for whatever is running the encoder. A 24/7 stream depends on that equipment and connection continuing to work; a test does not guarantee uninterrupted operation.

Set up the YouTube live stream

  1. Enable live streaming early. Verify the channel and check its live-streaming eligibility in YouTube Studio. If this is the first live stream on the channel, allow up to 24 hours for activation.
  2. Open Live Control Room. In YouTube Studio, select Create and then Go live. Create or schedule the stream and enter its title, description, audience setting and other metadata.
  3. Copy the stream URL and key. Use the ingestion details shown for the stream in Live Control Room to configure your encoder. Treat the stream key like a password: anyone who obtains it may be able to send a feed to your stream. Do not publish it or include it in screenshots.
  4. Decide how the stream will restart. A 24/7 broadcast needs a plan for encoder crashes, power loss, internet outages and YouTube disconnects. With a local setup, recovery may require restoring the computer or encoder and reconnecting it. YouTube advises preparing well ahead and starting an encoder at least 15 minutes before a scheduled event; for an always-on stream, use that as preflight guidance rather than an uptime guarantee. See YouTube’s live-streaming tips.

Build a continuous feed from music and a still image

Prepare the audio and artwork

Choose the study-beats tracks and a static image, and confirm that the rights you hold cover continuous live streaming. Put the audio into a playback arrangement that will not end unexpectedly—such as a playlist—and configure the encoder to keep sending video while the music plays. Check that the image remains on screen and the audio does not stop between tracks.

Choose a resolution and frame rate

YouTube does not specify a special ideal resolution for a still-image music stream. Pick a resolution your encoder and connection can sustain; do not treat a published bitrate recommendation for ordinary video as a measured requirement for low-motion artwork. The resolution is a production choice, while encoder compatibility and a stable feed are essential.

Configure the encoder settings

YouTube’s encoder recommendations include the settings below. They are general platform guidance, not proof that a particular setup will remain stable 24/7 or that a still-image stream needs the same bitrate as a high-motion video.

Setting YouTube guidance How to apply it
Ingestion protocol RTMPS is recommended for encrypted ingestion. Use RTMPS if your encoder supports it, and enter the server URL and stream key from Live Control Room.
Video codec H.264, H.265/HEVC and AV1 are listed for RTMP/RTMPS ingestion. Choose a codec supported by both your encoder and the YouTube ingest route you select.
Rate control Constant bitrate (CBR). Set the encoder to CBR and choose a bitrate your upload connection can sustain consistently.
Keyframe interval Two seconds recommended; do not exceed four seconds. Set the encoder’s keyframe interval to two seconds where available.
Frame rate Up to 60 fps is supported. For a still image, select a frame rate your encoder can maintain; support up to 60 fps does not mean you need to use it.
Stereo audio 44.1 kHz sample rate and 128 Kbps bitrate. Use these settings for stereo audio if your encoder exposes them.
H.264 at 1080p30 5 Mbps minimum and 14 Mbps recommended. These are YouTube’s published encoder figures, not measured requirements for a static-image radio stream.
AV1 or H.265/HEVC at 1080p30 4 Mbps minimum and 10 Mbps recommended. These are YouTube’s published encoder figures, not measured requirements for this specific low-motion program.

See the current YouTube encoder settings, bitrates and resolutions before launch, since platform guidance may change. Run a speed test and leave enough upload capacity for a stable stream rather than choosing a bitrate at the very limit of the connection.

RTMP/RTMPS or HLS?

RTMP/RTMPS is the straightforward choice for many software and hardware encoder setups. YouTube also documents HLS ingestion; it uses HTTPS URLs, TS segments, a rolling playlist with no more than five outstanding segments, and segment durations of 1–4 seconds. HLS can have higher latency than RTMP, which is usually not important for a non-interactive study radio stream. OBS is listed among encoders that support HLS output. Use HLS only if your encoder or codec workflow calls for it, and follow YouTube’s HLS ingestion requirements.

Test, preview and start the broadcast

  1. Run a representative test. Use the same audio playback, image, resolution, frame rate and bitrate you intend to use live. YouTube specifically advises: “Make sure to test before you start your live stream.”
  2. Start the encoder and inspect the preview. Confirm that Live Control Room receives the feed, the image is visible, and the audio is audible without clipping, silence or unexpected gaps.
  3. Check stream health and access. Review YouTube’s incoming stream status and verify that the live event is accessible as intended before relying on it as a radio stream.
  4. Start the event and monitor it. Watch the feed after it goes live, and check it periodically. If you record local archives, YouTube recommends verifying that the archive file is growing as expected.

A successful test only confirms that the tested setup worked at that time. It cannot guarantee 24/7 uptime: the computer or encoder, playback software, power, network, stream key and YouTube ingest can all become failure points.

Clear music and image rights before going live

YouTube’s livestream terms place responsibility for the content on the creator: “You represent and warrant that you have all necessary rights for the exploitation of the Live Content on the Google Services throughout the world, including, without limitation, music licensing rights from artists, record labels, publishers (including public performance licenses) and any other royalty participants.” See the YouTube Terms of Service.

For each track and image, check the actual license rather than assuming credit or permission for an ordinary upload covers a continuous live broadcast. Confirm whether the rights allow live streaming, the territories where you plan to stream, archived playback and monetization. Music rights can involve both the recording and the underlying composition; the applicable terms depend on the asset and license.

YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. It may replace a stream with a placeholder, warn the creator, interrupt or terminate the broadcast, and apply claims to an archived stream after the live event. A license alone may not prevent a live interruption if the rights owner has not allowlisted the channel. For licensed third-party content, YouTube advises asking the rights owner to add the channel to its allowlist. See YouTube’s guidance on copyrighted content in live streams.

Common problems and fixes

Symptom Likely cause What to check
Live Control Room does not receive a feed. Incorrect server URL or stream key, live activation still pending, or the encoder is not sending. Confirm activation is complete, copy the current ingestion details from Live Control Room, and verify the encoder is connected and running.
The connection drops or stream health degrades. Upload capacity is inconsistent, the selected bitrate is too demanding, or the local network or encoder has stopped working. Run a speed test, use a sustainable CBR bitrate, and check the encoder, router, power and computer for interruptions.
The image appears but the audio is silent or cuts out. Audio input, playback or encoder audio settings are incorrect, or the playlist has ended. Check the selected audio source, stereo settings and playback order; listen to the encoder output before going live.
YouTube interrupts or replaces the feed. A third-party content match or rights issue may be involved. Review YouTube notifications and claims, confirm live-use rights for the music, and contact the rights owner about channel allowlisting where applicable.
The stream works, but the local archive is missing or incomplete. Local recording may not have been enabled or the recording process may have stopped. If you rely on local archives, check that recording is configured and that the archive file continues to grow during the stream.

Or let it run in the cloud

For a YouTube stream made from uploaded videos, StreamNeo keeps the feed running in the cloud, so your computer and home connection do not have to stay on. The setup is: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, then go live. It automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream.
