First identify the output and the affected region, then check how that workflow loads fonts. Also distinguish the editor’s browser preview from the final generated file: APITemplate.io’s Quick Preview omits PDF headers and footers, so it cannot confirm those regions will render correctly.
First identify what is rendering the text
“Screenshot” can mean several different outputs, and their font controls are not interchangeable. Record these three details before changing anything:
- Output: an image template, a PDF, or a screenshot made by Puppeteer that you control.
- Region: the PDF body, its header or footer, or a text element in an image template.
- Validation stage: browser/editor preview or the final generated artifact.
APITemplate’s HTML Template Editor says Quick Preview (Ctrl+Q) renders the HTML in the browser “(no header/footer).” Use it to inspect the body, but generate the actual PDF with saved settings to validate the header and footer too. APITemplate.io’s HTML Template Editor documentation describes the distinction.
Fix fonts in an HTML PDF body
Check the family name and stylesheet
- Open the HTML PDF template and inspect the CSS in the editor’s CSS/head area. The HTML template editor supports external fonts in CSS.
- Check that the element’s
font-familyexactly matches the family name declared by the font or stylesheet. A font file’s filename is not necessarily its CSS family name. - If the font comes from an external stylesheet or URL, verify that the renderer can reach it. A declaration in CSS does not establish that the remote font actually loaded. Confirm using the generated output and any available logs.
- Generate the PDF and inspect the final body text. Do not treat a browser preview alone as proof that the generated PDF used the intended font.

Fix fonts in PDF headers and footers
Header and footer typography has its own documented setup. APITemplate.io’s guide supports TTF files with a <custom-font> tag; use that mechanism for the header/footer region instead of assuming the body stylesheet applies identically. Check the TTF’s actual family name rather than inferring it from the filename. See PDF Headers and Footers for the documented markup and setup.
Then generate the full PDF and inspect the affected region. Quick Preview excludes headers and footers, so a correct preview of the body says nothing about whether a header/footer font rendered.

Fix fonts in image templates
Image-template typography is controlled through the image template workflow, not by assuming PDF body CSS will carry over. In the Image Template Editor, inspect the text element’s font selection, save the template, and regenerate the image through the editor or API workflow you use. APITemplate documents text/font controls in its Image Template Editor overview and discusses adding text to an image through its text-to-image API page.
If the result is wrong, verify the specific text element’s selected font and the template revision used to generate the output. The available documentation describes image-template font controls and API overrides; it does not establish that PDF CSS rules control image-template typography.

If you control the Puppeteer renderer
For a Puppeteer workflow that you operate, wait for fonts to become ready before taking the screenshot or generating the PDF:
await page.evaluate(() => document.fonts.ready);APITemplate’s Puppeteer guide shows await waitFor('document.fonts.ready', 2000); as a waiting approach. Use it only in a Puppeteer-controlled workflow; it is not established as an APITemplate hosted-product API parameter. The guide also states that Puppeteer-generated headers and footers do not support web fonts, so use an appropriate alternative for those regions rather than expecting the body’s web font to work there. If you operate the renderer on Linux or serverless infrastructure, inspect the fonts installed in that environment and its fontconfig configuration. APITemplate’s guidance about configuring local fonts concerns Linux environments you control; it does not establish that APITemplate customers can change fonts installed on the hosted service.
Troubleshooting by symptom
