Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Cypress captures a screenshot automatically when a test fails during cypress run, including in CI. By default, it saves the file under cypress/screenshots. To retrieve it after the job ends, configure your CI provider to upload that folder as an artifact, or use Cypress Cloud for a recorded run. For a deliberate checkpoint, call cy.screenshot() in a test.
Set up Cypress screenshots in CI
- Run Cypress in CI. Use
cypress runor your provider’s Cypress integration. For GitHub Actions, Cypress documents a maintained action; its guide recommends thev7major tag as of October 3, 2026. Action tags and workflow syntax can change, so check the current Cypress GitHub Actions guide when configuring a workflow. - Check screenshot settings. Cypress defaults to the
cypress/screenshotsfolder and enables failure screenshots withscreenshotOnRunFailure: true. Confirm neither the project configuration norCypress.Screenshot.defaults()overrides those settings. - Upload screenshots after the test step. Configure your CI provider’s artifact feature to collect the configured screenshots folder. Make the upload step run even if Cypress tests fail; otherwise the screenshots most likely to be useful may be lost. Artifact syntax and retention settings depend on the provider and workflow.
- Check the result. Open the CI job’s artifacts and download the screenshots. If you use Cypress Cloud, screenshots from recorded CI runs can also be viewed there; confirm your run is recorded and reviewers have access.
Cypress’s screenshots and videos guide covers capture and viewing behavior. Its CI overview explains CI setup, and provider documentation explains how to export artifacts. There is no provider-neutral upload YAML here because the action names, syntax, and retention controls differ.
Check the screenshot folder and cleanup behavior
The default screenshotsFolder is cypress/screenshots. If you change it, update the artifact upload path to match. Cypress also defaults trashAssetsBeforeRuns to true, which clears the screenshots folder’s entire contents, including nested files, before a run. Do not rely on files from an earlier run being present. Set it to false only when preserving existing contents is intentional. See the configuration reference.
Automatic failure screenshots use the generated test name with (failed) appended. Keep generated screenshots out of source control unless your project has a specific reason to version them; Cypress test assets are generally regenerated and can instead be retained as CI artifacts. See Cypress’s test asset organization guidance.

Capture a deliberate checkpoint with cy.screenshot()
Use a manual screenshot when a test needs an image at a specific point rather than only on failure. Put the command after assertions or other checks establish the state you want to inspect:
cy.get('[data-cy="checkout-title"]').should('be.visible');
cy.screenshot('checkout-ready');
You can provide a filename and screenshot options. Manual capture defaults to fullPage. Use viewport to capture only the visible viewport, or runner to include Cypress’s browser and command-log context. The screenshot command API lists the available options.

- Get NVMe solid state performance with up to 1050MB/s read and 1000MB/s write speeds in a portable, high-capacity drive(1) (Based on internal testing; performance may be lower depending on host device & other factors. 1MB=1,000,000 bytes.)
- Up to 3-meter drop protection and IP65 water and dust resistance mean this tough drive can take a beating(3) (Previously rated for 2-meter drop protection and IP55 rating. Now qualified for the higher, stated specs.)
- Use the handy carabiner loop to secure it to your belt loop or backpack for extra peace of mind.
- Help keep private content private with the included password protection featuring 256‐bit AES hardware encryption.(3)
- Easily manage files and automatically free up space with the SanDisk Memory Zone app.(5). Non-Operating Temperature -20°C to 85°C
Capture is asynchronous. Cypress says it takes around 100 ms, and the application can change before it completes, so an image may not show the exact instant the command was issued. A full-page capture scrolls and stitches the page; fixed or sticky elements may appear more than once. Duplicate manual screenshot names get numeric suffixes unless overwrite is enabled.
Choose between CI artifacts and Cypress Cloud
| Route | Use it when | Check |
|---|---|---|
| CI provider artifacts | Your team wants downloadable files attached to the existing job. | Upload the configured screenshots folder after the test step, including when that step fails; set retention in the provider workflow. |
| Cypress Cloud | Your team records CI runs and wants to view their screenshots in the hosted run interface. | Verify recording is configured and intended reviewers can access the run. See Cypress Cloud recorded runs. |
These routes answer different access needs: artifacts put files in the CI job’s retention and download flow, while Cloud provides access through a recorded Cypress run. Visual testing is a separate consideration; Cypress’s visual testing guide discusses hosted visual testing and baseline workflows.

- No failure screenshot appears: Confirm the command is
cypress run,screenshotOnRunFailurehas not been disabled in configuration or withCypress.Screenshot.defaults(), and the CI step actually started Cypress. - The artifact is empty or the upload cannot find files: Check the configured
screenshotsFolderand make the upload path identical. Also check that the upload step runs after Cypress and is allowed to run when the test step fails. - Screenshots from an earlier run disappeared: This is expected with the default
trashAssetsBeforeRuns: true. Preserve existing contents only if needed by setting it tofalse. - A manual screenshot shows the wrong state: Wait for the relevant page content or assertion before calling
cy.screenshot(); capture completion is asynchronous and the page can change. - A full-page image repeats a header or other control: Full-page capture stitches scrolled views, so fixed and sticky elements may appear multiple times. Use viewport capture if only the current visible screen is needed.
- Cloud has no screenshot to view: Confirm the run was recorded and that the person checking it has access to that run. Otherwise use the CI provider’s artifact upload route.

If you need a website screenshot rather than a Cypress test artifact, ScreenshotNeo provides a website screenshot API and MCP server for developers. A single GET request can return an image or PDF. Example using cURL:

- Plug-and-play expandability
- SuperSpeed USB 3.2 Gen 1 (5Gbps)
curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp
See the ScreenshotNeo API documentation for request options. It accepts cookie or consent banners like a visitor and removes more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before capture; each step can be turned off. Bot checks or CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits are not billed, and response headers report the page verdict and billing status. Its MCP server offers take_screenshot, get_page_info, and capture_pdf for Claude, Cursor, and other MCP clients. The Free plan includes 1,000 screenshots per month without a card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000.
