If your OneStream Live YouTube stream is stuck on “Starting,” first identify how you sent it—pre-recorded video, OneStream Live Studio, or an external encoder. Then check that YouTube is connected and selected as the destination. For an encoder stream, verify the current OneStream server URL and stream key, and check whether OneStream shows an incoming signal. Network, bitrate, encoder, or device problems are also worth checking, but no single cause is established for every stream that remains on “Starting.”
Start with the streaming method
OneStream Live has separate workflows for pre-recorded streams, Studio livestreams, and broadcasts sent from an external encoder. The right troubleshooting path depends on which one you used. If you are unsure, check how the event was created and whether you started it from an uploaded video, OneStream Studio, or software such as an encoder.
OneStream’s first-stream guide describes these distinct options. Do not apply encoder-specific fixes to a pre-recorded or Studio stream unless an encoder is actually involved.
Check the YouTube destination
Confirm the account is connected
In OneStream Live, open Social Platforms and confirm that the YouTube account you intend to use is connected. OneStream’s YouTube connection guide places account connection before scheduling or starting a stream. If the connection is missing or needs attention, reconnect the intended account and retry the event.

Confirm the destination is selected and saved
For an encoder broadcast, selecting a YouTube account in the platform settings is a separate check from entering encoder details. OneStream’s encoder destination guide says to select at least one social platform and save it before broadcasting. Verify that the correct YouTube destination is selected for this stream, then save before trying again.
For an external encoder, verify the input configuration
Copy the current server URL and stream key
Open the OneStream stream-key details for the event and compare them with the values configured in your encoder. Use the server URL and stream key shown by OneStream for that stream; an old key, a copied value with a typo, or details from a different event can prevent the intended input from reaching OneStream. The official encoder setup guide instructs users to copy the Stream Key and Server URL into the encoder.

Check whether OneStream sees an incoming signal
OneStream’s advanced stream-key settings expose incoming-signal status. Check that status while the encoder is sending. If OneStream does not indicate an incoming signal, focus first on the encoder’s connection details and whether it is actually transmitting to the displayed OneStream endpoint. If it does show a signal, that rules out only the specific possibility that no input is reaching OneStream; it does not, by itself, establish why YouTube remains on “Starting.” See the advanced stream-key settings guide.
Refresh encoder details after changing protocol
If you changed the protocol in OneStream, check the server URL again. OneStream says the URL updates automatically when the protocol selection changes, so the encoder must be updated with the new URL and key. Copy the current values from OneStream into the encoder rather than assuming the previous endpoint is still correct. The protocol selection guide explains this update.

Review network, bitrate, and device load
These checks can help identify stream-quality or stability problems, but OneStream’s recommendations do not establish that a particular network or performance issue is the cause of every “Starting” state. Its RTMP quality guidance, published by OneStream Live in 2026, recommends the following:
| Check | OneStream Live guidance |
|---|---|
| 720p (HD) video bitrate | Minimum 1.5 Mbps |
| 1080p (Full HD) video bitrate | Minimum 3 Mbps |
| Available upload speed | At least 10 Mbps recommended; 25 Mbps or higher described as ideal |
| Bitrate relative to upload speed | Keep video bitrate at no more than half of available upload speed |
| CPU usage | At or above 80% is a threshold for trying performance troubleshooting |
These are recommendations from OneStream’s RTMP stream quality guide, not a guarantee that meeting them will clear a stuck event. Check that your upload connection is both fast enough and stable, and observe whether the encoder or computer is under unusually heavy load while broadcasting.

When the stream still will not start
If the destination and, where relevant, the encoder configuration look correct, retain the exact event status and gather details before contacting OneStream support. The service’s troubleshooting index covers streams remaining in Processing or Pending status, streams that fail immediately after starting, invalid or disconnected destinations, and destination-platform errors. Those descriptions are possible troubleshooting categories, not confirmation of what caused your event.
- Record the exact status text and whether it changes over time.
- Note the workflow used: pre-recorded video, Studio, or external encoder.
- For encoder streams, include the encoder software and whether OneStream’s stream-key settings show an incoming signal. Do not post your stream key publicly.
- Include the selected destination and any visible destination or platform error.
Use the OneStream Live troubleshooting index to find the relevant support route. Status text alone does not reveal the internal cause, and no general failure-rate or universal root-cause figure is established by the available guidance.
