If you meant a different Loki, its documentation is needed for exact Loki-specific steps.
Which Loki does this apply to?
The documented Loki package describes a Storybook screenshot and visual-comparison workflow: “Capture screenshots and compare them against the reference files.” That is not evidence that it supports logging in to arbitrary websites. Do not assume its commands can authenticate to a private page. If you have another Loki product in mind, check that product’s documentation for its supported login and browser-session features before relying on it.
Capture a protected page once in a browser
- Sign in through the site’s normal login flow in a browser you are authorized to use. Complete any required multi-factor authentication.
- Navigate directly to the exact protected URL you need.
- Wait until the private content has rendered, not merely until the browser reports that navigation has finished.
- Use the browser’s screenshot or print-to-PDF function to capture the visible area or page, as needed.
- Open the saved file and confirm it shows the intended signed-in content rather than a login redirect or incomplete page.
This is usually the simplest route for an occasional capture. It keeps sign-in in the normal browser flow, but a person must be present to authenticate and verify the result.
Automate repeat captures with Playwright
Playwright documents a workflow in which you sign in, save browser storage state, and load that state into a later browser context. The example below uses a username and password form; adapt selectors and the signed-in marker to the target site. Sites using SSO, MFA, passkeys, or other flows may need a human-assisted sign-in or a different approved authentication setup. Storage state is not guaranteed to represent every browser credential or authentication mechanism.

Create save-auth.js. Replace the example URL and selectors with the site’s actual values. Store credentials in environment variables rather than writing them into the script.

Load the state and take a screenshot
Create capture.js. Set the target URL to the protected page and change the signed-in marker to an element that appears only after authentication.

Protect and refresh the saved state
Treat auth-state.json like a credential: it can contain cookies or other data that allows access to an account. Keep it out of source control and shared folders, restrict access, and regenerate it through the normal login flow if it expires or is revoked. Do not capture or distribute private account information unless you are authorized to do so.

Basic Authentication is not a substitute for a website login flow
Some screenshot APIs document an HTTP Basic Authentication parameter. That applies when the target is protected by HTTP Basic Authentication. A username and password form, SSO redirect, or MFA challenge is a different authentication flow; the existence of a Basic Auth option does not prove it can complete those logins. Use browser automation only where permitted and supported, and confirm the resulting capture is authenticated.

Verify the result and troubleshoot common failures
- The screenshot shows a login page: The session may not have authenticated, may have expired, or the site may have redirected. Re-run the normal sign-in flow, check the final URL, and wait for a signed-in-only marker before capture.
- The page is partially rendered: Wait for a reliable element or page state rather than relying on a short fixed delay. For long pages, use a full-page capture and inspect the lower sections.
- Playwright cannot find a selector: Login forms and account controls differ by site. Inspect the page and replace the example selectors with actual selectors or accessible role/name combinations.
- Saved state no longer works: The session may have expired or been revoked. Authenticate again and save fresh storage state; do not assume saved state remains valid indefinitely.
- Basic Authentication fails: Confirm the site actually uses HTTP Basic Authentication. If it uses a web form or SSO, use an authorized browser-based flow instead of treating the two mechanisms as interchangeable.
- The file contains sensitive account details: Review it before sharing, limit access to the output, and capture only information you are authorized to access and distribute.
