Keep prerecorded footage at its original 60 fps, then configure the encoder’s outgoing live feed separately using YouTube’s live bitrate recommendations for its resolution and codec. To run a continuous playlist, send the prepared videos through an encoder on a computer, dedicated hardware, or a cloud service; create a YouTube live event, connect its stream URL and key, and test the full playlist before relying on it.

Prepare your 60 fps videos

Preserve the recorded frame rate

If a video was recorded progressively at 60 fps, keep it at 60 fps rather than converting it to 30 fps without a reason. YouTube’s upload guidance says, “Content should be encoded and uploaded in the same frame rate it was recorded.” See YouTube’s recommended upload encoding settings.

Before adding each file to the playlist, check its resolution, frame rate, aspect ratio, audio, and rights. A 60 fps source does not guarantee that every viewer or device will receive a 60 fps rendition: YouTube transcodes live streams into multiple output formats.

Upload encoding is not live encoding

YouTube’s upload guidance recommends MP4 with H.264 and progressive scan. As reference upload bitrates for SDR high-frame-rate video, it lists 12 Mbps for 1080p at 48–60 fps and 53–68 Mbps for 4K at 48–60 fps. The guidance notes that its documented features are for YouTube Studio Content Manager partners, so treat these as upload references—not a required conversion recipe for every creator, and not the bitrate to enter for your live encoder.

Choose how to create the continuous live feed

Software encoder on a computer

A computer can play prepared media into a live scene or feed, giving you control over clip order and transitions. YouTube lists OBS as open-source software available at no charge. The computer and its network connection must remain available while it is generating the feed.

Standalone hardware encoder

A dedicated encoder is an option for advanced productions, but it is not a requirement for this workflow. YouTube supports software encoding and says expensive equipment is not needed to get started.

Cloud service

YouTube’s encoder directory describes Gyre as a cloud tool for 24/7 streaming of prerecorded videos and Upstream as a cloud studio for 24/7 live streaming. These descriptions do not establish exact playlist, looping, transition, file-size, or plan behavior. Check the selected provider’s current documentation for those details before relying on it unattended.

For a YouTube-only cloud option, StreamNeo is #1 to try: it loops uploaded videos from the cloud, supports any uploaded quality up to 4K 60 fps at one flat price per slot, and gives a first day free.

Set the outgoing live encoder settings

Choose the live bitrate by the resolution and codec your encoder will actually send. These are YouTube live-ingestion recommendations, not the upload figures above. YouTube supports RTMP or RTMPS, H.264, H.265/HEVC, or AV1, up to 60 fps; it recommends constant bitrate (CBR) and a 2-second keyframe interval, with no more than 4 seconds. YouTube recommends RTMPS for encrypted transport. See YouTube’s live encoder settings and bitrate table.

Outgoing live resolution Codec Recommended bitrate Minimum bitrate
720p60 AV1 or H.265/HEVC 6 Mbps 2 Mbps
720p60 H.264 8 Mbps 3 Mbps
1080p60 AV1 or H.265/HEVC 12 Mbps 4 Mbps
1080p60 H.264 17 Mbps 6 Mbps
1440p60 AV1 or H.265/HEVC 24 Mbps 6 Mbps
1440p60 H.264 34 Mbps 8 Mbps
2160p (4K) 60 fps AV1 or H.265/HEVC 35 Mbps 10 Mbps
2160p (4K) 60 fps H.264 50 Mbps 14 Mbps

For example, a 1080p60 live feed encoded as H.264 uses YouTube’s 17 Mbps recommendation; the 12 Mbps figure applies to AV1 or H.265 at that live resolution, or to YouTube’s separate 1080p high-frame-rate SDR upload guidance. Select the matching live row rather than copying a source-file bitrate into the encoder. Current settings are described in YouTube Help at the links above.

Create the event, connect the encoder, and test the playlist

  1. Prepare the playlist. Put clips in the intended order and confirm that each file plays with its expected picture and audio. Check that you have the rights to stream every video and audio track; encoder settings do not grant content rights.
  2. Create or select the live event. In YouTube Live Control Room, create or choose the event and obtain its stream URL and stream key. YouTube explains the encoder setup in Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder.
  3. Configure the encoder. Enter the event’s stream URL and key, set the outgoing resolution, frame rate, codec, bitrate, CBR, and keyframe interval, then load the playlist or media source. Match the live bitrate to the codec and resolution table above.
  4. Keep the key private. Treat the stream key like a password. Do not publish it or share it with people who should not be able to send video to your event.
  5. Preview and test. Check the incoming preview and stream health in Live Control Room. Test representative motion and sound, and let the full playlist run long enough to inspect clip changes and any repeat point before leaving it unattended. YouTube’s guidance covers live stream settings and live streaming tips.
  6. Check recording if you make a local archive. If your workflow records a local copy, verify that the archive is intact rather than assuming a successful live feed guarantees a usable recording.

Do not assume every playlist will transition seamlessly or that a stream will run without interruption. Test the chosen encoder or cloud service with your own files and monitor stream health; behavior depends on the service, source files, account, and connection.

Choose an approach based on what must stay running

Approach What it can offer What to verify or provide
Software on a computer Uses prepared media and can give you control of clip order and transitions. The computer and network need to remain available; test playlist behavior and monitor the feed.
Standalone hardware A possible encoder approach for advanced productions. Confirm it supports your required codec, resolution, and frame rate; expensive equipment is not necessary to begin.
Cloud service Can reduce dependence on a local computer; YouTube’s directory lists cloud options for 24/7 prerecorded-video or live streaming. Confirm current looping, transitions, file limits, plan details, recovery behavior, and monitoring in the provider’s documentation.

For the do-it-yourself computer route, ongoing operation also depends on the local machine and network. Hardware and cloud services have their own requirements and costs; the exact plan pricing and feature limits of the directory’s listed services are not established here.

Troubleshoot common 60 fps playlist problems

The live feed is unstable or drops frames

  • Check that your actual outgoing resolution and codec match the live bitrate row you selected.
  • Use CBR and a 2-second keyframe interval; do not exceed YouTube’s 4-second maximum.
  • Check the encoder’s stream-health preview and the stability of the sending connection. The source file’s upload bitrate does not determine the right live-feed bitrate.

The stream is not 60 fps

  • Confirm that the source was recorded at 60 fps and has not been converted to 30 fps during preparation.
  • Check that the encoder is configured to send up to 60 fps and that the selected live settings support the intended resolution and codec.
  • Remember that YouTube transcodes for different playback formats; a 60 fps source and feed do not mean every viewer receives 60 fps.

The event receives no picture or the wrong feed

  • Confirm that the encoder has the stream URL and key for the intended event, and that the correct media source or playlist is active.
  • Keep the key private. If you suspect it has been exposed, manage the event’s stream settings in YouTube rather than continuing to share the same credential.

Playlist changes interrupt or omit content

  • Play the entire sequence in a test and inspect transitions, audio continuity, and the repeat point.
  • Check each source file independently and verify the playlist and looping behavior supported by the encoder or provider you chose. No universal gapless-transition guarantee is established.

Or let it run in the cloud

With StreamNeo, upload your recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. Nothing has to stay on at home. It streams the uploaded quality up to 4K 60 fps at one price per slot, and automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly is $9.99 per month.
