Set landscape: true in the options passed to Puppeteer’s page.pdf() method. Here is a complete Node.js example, followed by the settings that affect page size, print styling, and readiness.
Generate a landscape PDF
Install Puppeteer in your project, then run this script. Replace the example URL with the webpage you want to capture.

})();The key setting is landscape: true. If you omit it, the documented default is false, so the PDF is portrait. Puppeteer’s PDFOptions reference documents the orientation and other PDF settings.
Choose the page geometry and fit
Landscape changes orientation; it does not guarantee that a webpage’s content will fit neatly on the resulting pages. Select paper dimensions and scaling based on the page and how it will be read.

formatselects a named paper size. If you supplyformatalong withwidthorheight,formattakes priority.widthandheightlet you set dimensions directly when a named format is unsuitable.preferCSSPageSize: truegives the webpage’s CSS@pagesize priority over the API’s paper dimensions. Its default isfalse; by default, content is scaled to fit the selected paper size.- Margins are unset by default. Set them if content is too close to the edge or if you need room for printed material.
scaledefaults to1and accepts values from0.1to2. A lower scale may help fit wide content, but also makes text smaller.
For example, to use A4 paper in landscape with a small margin and printed background graphics:

});Use the dimensions and options supported by your installed Puppeteer version. When a page defines its own print page size, inspect its @page CSS and decide whether that size or your API settings should control the output.

Control print styling and colors
page.pdf() renders using the print CSS media type. If the page’s print stylesheet hides content or changes the layout and you want its screen styles instead, emulate screen media before creating the PDF:

To preserve exact colors, use the CSS property -webkit-print-color-adjust, such as -webkit-print-color-adjust: exact in the page’s print styles. Set printBackground: true when the PDF also needs background graphics; it defaults to false. See the Page.pdf() reference and PDF generation guide.

Wait for the page to be ready
The example uses waitUntil: 'networkidle2' as one navigation readiness condition. It is not a guarantee that every dynamic element, delayed image, or application update has finished. Choose a condition suited to the page; for content that appears later, wait explicitly for the relevant selector or application state before calling page.pdf().
Puppeteer’s PDF guide says that page.pdf() waits for fonts by default. If a page still produces missing or late content, verify that the content has loaded before capture rather than assuming navigation alone is sufficient.

page.pdf() returns a Uint8Array. Supplying path writes the resulting PDF to that file, as in the examples. The navigation call page.goto() resolves with the main resource response; it can resolve to null for about:blank or a navigation to the same URL that differs only by its hash. Troubleshoot common output problems
- The PDF is still portrait: confirm that
landscape: trueis in the options object passed topage.pdf(), not only in another configuration. - The layout looks wrong or content is cut off: inspect the site’s print CSS and
@pagerules. Check whetherformatis overriding width and height, whetherpreferCSSPageSizeshould be enabled, and whether margins or scale need adjustment. - Colors or backgrounds are missing: set
printBackground: truefor background graphics. For exact color rendering, use-webkit-print-color-adjust: exactin the page’s CSS. - Dynamic content is absent: wait for the specific content or selector before generating the PDF; a navigation readiness condition may not cover later page updates.
- Navigation to a PDF fails in headless shell: Puppeteer’s navigation documentation warns that headless shell does not support navigating to a PDF document. That limitation concerns opening a PDF with navigation, not generating a PDF with
page.pdf().
