BrowserCat can host the browser session for a website screenshot workflow, but the recurring schedule is a separate piece: write a Playwright script, connect it to BrowserCat, and run it from a scheduler configured for the Indian business’s chosen local time. BrowserCat’s published quick start demonstrates browser connection and screenshot capture; the reviewed guides do not establish a built-in recurring scheduler. BrowserCat quick start
What BrowserCat does—and what it does not establish
In this setup, BrowserCat provides a hosted browser session. Your Playwright script specifies the URL, page actions, readiness condition, screenshot options, and what happens to the resulting file. A separate scheduler starts that script at recurring intervals. BrowserCat’s guides explain the browser automation and connection; they do not show recurring job configuration, so do not treat scheduling as an established BrowserCat feature. BrowserCat Playwright connection guide
This separation is useful when you need page-specific behavior, but it means your business owns the schedule, script, secrets, artifact storage, failure handling, and notifications. Use a scheduler already available in your hosting or CI environment, and consult its current documentation for time-zone and retry behavior.
Build a repeatable screenshot script
First decide whether you need the visible viewport, the full page, or one element. Keep the target URL, viewport, page state, and capture type consistent across runs if you intend to compare images. BrowserCat’s quick start demonstrates taking screenshots with Playwright, and its MCP README describes page and selected-element capture with dimensions. BrowserCat MCP Server README

The following Node.js example shows the workflow: connect to BrowserCat’s documented WebSocket endpoint with your API key, navigate, wait for a page-specific condition, and save a full-page screenshot. Replace the example URL and selector with the page and readiness condition appropriate to your site. The BrowserCat guide documents the endpoint and API-key header; verify exact SDK and option compatibility against the current Playwright and BrowserCat documentation before deployment. BrowserCat Playwright connection guide
import { chromium } from 'playwright';
import { writeFile } from 'node:fs/promises';
const apiKey = process.env.BROWSERCAT_API_KEY;
if (!apiKey) throw new Error('Set BROWSERCAT_API_KEY in the environment');
const browser = await chromium.connectOverCDP('wss://api.browsercat.com/connect', {
headers: { 'Api-Key': apiKey }
});
try {
const page = await browser.newPage({ viewport: { width: 1440, height: 900 } });
await page.goto('https://example.com', { waitUntil: 'domcontentloaded', timeout: 60000 });
await page.locator('main').waitFor({ state: 'visible', timeout: 30000 });
const image = await page.screenshot({ fullPage: true, type: 'png' });
const stamp = new Date().toISOString().replaceAll(':', '-');
await writeFile(`screenshots/site-${stamp}.png`, image);
} finally {
await browser.close();
}
The connection and screenshot approach follows BrowserCat’s documentation; confirm any SDK-specific header spelling or connection options in its current guide. Create the output directory before running the sample, or add code to create it. If you capture a specific element instead of the whole page, use Playwright’s locator screenshot method and keep the selector stable.
Keep credentials out of source code
Create a BrowserCat account and API key, then put the key in the scheduler’s secret store or environment configuration as BROWSERCAT_API_KEY. Do not commit it to a public repository, print it in logs, or embed it in a script distributed to clients. BrowserCat’s Playwright setup requires an account and key and demonstrates passing the key in connection headers. BrowserCat Playwright connection guide

Choose page readiness deliberately
A fixed delay is easy to configure but may waste time or capture too early. Prefer a page-specific signal such as a visible main element, a known heading, or a completed state. For sites with dynamic content, identify which content must settle before capture; do not assume that a generic navigation event means every image, chart, or third-party widget is ready.

Configure the recurring run for Indian local time
- Choose the clock time and cadence. Decide which local time matters to the business and how often a capture is useful.
- Set the scheduler’s timezone explicitly. Configure it for the intended Indian local clock in the scheduler itself, rather than assuming the machine’s default timezone. Check the scheduler’s current documentation for the accepted timezone identifier and daylight-saving behavior.
- Set runtime limits and retries. Choose a timeout that accommodates the site and remote browser session. Configure retries only for transient failures, and avoid retry policies that can create duplicate or overlapping captures.
- Set the execution environment. Provide the API key as a secret, install the required Node.js dependencies, and ensure the job can write to its configured output or upload destination.
- Run once manually. Inspect the image, its timestamp, and the job logs before enabling recurrence.
- Verify the next scheduled run. Confirm the scheduler shows the expected next run in the intended timezone and that it records success or failure.
The scheduler—not BrowserCat’s browser connection—determines when a run starts and how retries work. BrowserCat’s configuration page says sessions currently run near the request and that explicit region routing is on the roadmap. That does not establish an India-specific execution region or guarantee where a browser session runs. BrowserCat browser configuration overview
Store, name, and operate captures reliably
A screenshot saved only to a temporary runner disk may disappear when the job ends. Choose durable storage—such as the business’s existing object storage or an artifact store—and define access controls and retention there. These are workflow decisions, not storage or retention features established by the cited BrowserCat guides.

Troubleshoot common failures
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Browser connection fails | Missing or invalid API key, incorrect connection configuration, or unavailable network access from the runner. | Confirm the secret is present in the scheduled environment, check the current BrowserCat Playwright connection instructions, and inspect logs without exposing the key. |
| Screenshot is blank or incomplete | The page has not reached the content state you need, or the chosen viewport or capture mode is unsuitable. | Wait for a meaningful selector or page state; check that the selector exists; verify viewport and whether you need a full-page or element capture. |
| Navigation or selector timeout | The site is slow, the URL redirects, the selector changed, or the wait condition is too strict. | Check the final URL and selector in a browser, adjust the timeout based on observed needs, and avoid relying on an element that is not stable. |
| Local run works but scheduled run fails | The scheduler has a different timezone, working directory, environment variables, installed dependencies, or filesystem permissions. | Compare the scheduled job’s environment with the manual run; use absolute paths where appropriate and verify secret injection and output permissions. |
| Image is missing after a successful job | The file was written to ephemeral storage or an unexpected directory. | Check the job’s working directory and upload or copy the image to durable storage as part of the run. |
| Runs overlap or produce duplicates | A previous run exceeds the interval or retry settings start another execution. | Set concurrency behavior and retry policy in the scheduler, and decide whether each run should have a unique timestamped filename. |
BrowserCat workflow or managed recurring captures?
A BrowserCat workflow gives the business control of the script and scheduler. A managed recurring screenshot service may reduce the amount of scheduling and artifact infrastructure the business maintains, but the services are not interchangeable without checking their current capabilities.
