Set Puppeteer’s viewport before navigating, then capture the rendered page with page.screenshot(). Specify width, height and deviceScaleFactor explicitly when you need repeatable rendering conditions; choose screenshot options such as fullPage, clip or omitBackground to control what the image contains.
Set the viewport before loading the page
Use page.setViewport() to configure the browser viewport and device scale factor, then navigate and capture. Setting the viewport first matters when the page’s layout responds to its available dimensions. Puppeteer’s API reference documents this order and uses a device scale factor of 1 in its method example; the values below are illustrative, not a tested result. Puppeteer: Page.setViewport()

})();Here, width and height describe the viewport in CSS pixels; deviceScaleFactor configures the emulated device pixel ratio. Do not assume these settings alone guarantee a particular output raster size for every screenshot mode. Check the produced image dimensions in your own setup, especially when you use full-page or clipped captures. What happens if you omit the viewport?
Puppeteer’s documented ConnectOptions default viewport is 800 by 600. page.viewport() reports the viewport recorded by the last setViewport() call or the connection default; it does not inspect the actual browser viewport. Puppeteer: ConnectOptions · Puppeteer: Page.viewport()

Choose a custom viewport or a device profile
Use a custom viewport for exact dimensions
For a controlled render size, set the width, height and scale factor directly. This is usually the clearest option for generating consistent screenshots of a page at a known layout width, without also changing the browser’s user agent to represent a specific device.
Use device emulation when you need a known device
page.emulate(device) sets both the device user agent and viewport. Puppeteer recommends applying emulation before navigation so the page loads under those device settings. Choose this when you need the site to respond as it would to that device profile, rather than only matching a custom viewport size. Puppeteer: Page.emulate()

Changing isMobile or hasTouch in viewport settings can cause the page to reload. Set these values before navigation if they are required, and account for the reload if changing them on an already loaded page. Puppeteer: Page.setViewport()
Choose what the screenshot captures

Troubleshooting
- The layout does not match the intended width. Set the viewport explicitly before
page.goto(); a page may adapt its layout to the viewport dimensions. - The page reloads after changing viewport settings. Changes to
isMobileorhasTouchcan trigger a reload. Set them before navigation when possible. - The screenshot is not the expected full-page or region capture. Check whether you need
fullPageorclip; a default screenshot is not the same as either capture mode. - The background is opaque. Use
omitBackground: truewhen transparency is wanted. - The saved image dimensions differ from an assumption. Do not infer a universal raster-size formula from the viewport alone. Inspect the output dimensions in your setup and confirm the selected screenshot options.
- The reported viewport does not reflect a browser measurement.
page.viewport()returns Puppeteer’s recorded viewport setting or the connection default; it is not an inspection of the actual browser viewport.
