If BrowserCat opens a browser session but an Indian website will not load, first check whether the problem is the BrowserCat connection, the target site, or the session’s network route. BrowserCat does not currently let you pin a session to India; its documentation says to use a third-party proxy when precise geographic control is needed. Verify the session’s actual egress IP before concluding that location is the cause.
Start by identifying where the failure occurs
Test in stages so you do not mistake an authentication or connection problem for a country-specific block. BrowserCat’s documented secure WebSocket endpoint is wss://api.browsercat.com/connect; its quickstart shows how to connect with an API-key header and navigate using a supported browser client. See the BrowserCat quickstart and Puppeteer documentation for the current client setup.
- Connect and open a page. Confirm that the WebSocket connection succeeds and the browser session starts. If it does not, investigate the endpoint, API key, client setup, and connection error before changing proxy settings.
- Navigate to a neutral site. If that also fails, the issue is not yet isolated to the Indian website. Capture the error and check whether navigation is timing out or requests are failing.
- Navigate to the affected URL. Record the exception or timeout, final URL and redirects, HTTP status when available, failed network requests, browser console messages, and whether BrowserCat returns a screenshot or DOM.
- Compare with a local browser or network. Try the same target from a known working browser. If it loads locally but not in BrowserCat, compare the session’s egress IP, proxy route, browser state, and the site’s response.
An Indian domain failing in BrowserCat does not by itself prove that the site blocks BrowserCat or requires an Indian IP. The strongest practical clue for a location-related issue is that the same target begins working after you change and verify the session’s egress IP; even then, that does not reveal the site’s internal policy.
Can you set BrowserCat’s region to India?
Not through a built-in region selector, according to BrowserCat’s region documentation checked on October 3, 2026. BrowserCat says sessions are placed automatically near the incoming request, while explicit region routing is not currently available. The documentation states, “Explicit region routing is on the roadmap.” That is a statement of product direction, not a guarantee about when the feature will ship. Automatic session placement does not establish what country the target website sees. If geography appears relevant, inspect the public egress IP from inside the running session and compare it with the result when routing through a proxy. BrowserCat’s documentation recommends a third-party proxy for precise country or city control and says BrowserCat does not provide a built-in proxy service. See BrowserCat’s proxy documentation.
Route a BrowserCat session through a third-party proxy
Choose a proxy service only after checking that it actually offers the India location you need. BrowserCat documents proxy settings in a BrowserCat-Opts header as a JSON proxy object. The server URL is required; username, password, and bypass patterns are optional. BrowserCat’s docs provide examples for Playwright and Puppeteer.

server: required proxy URL.usernameandpassword: optional proxy authentication credentials.bypass: optional comma-separated domain patterns that skip the proxy. A bypass rule matching the target can make it appear that the proxy or India route is not working.
Use the equivalent option shape supported by your BrowserCat client, substituting your own proxy details. Keep API keys and proxy credentials out of source control, public issue reports, and logs.

Confirm that the proxy provider supports your intended use, that its India exit is active, and that the egress address observed in the BrowserCat session matches the intended route. BrowserCat notes cost, speed, and reliability as trade-offs when selecting a third-party proxy. Also compare India or city coverage, target-domain success, authentication requirements, and whether the service is residential or datacenter; BrowserCat does not endorse a particular provider.

Check option precedence and secure transport
BrowserCat accepts configuration through BrowserCat-Opts and query parameters. If both set the same key, the header takes precedence. Remove duplicate or stale values and verify that the client is actually sending the header you intend. For clients that cannot send headers, BrowserCat documents JSON query-parameter alternatives in its configuration overview. Because URL-carried options can expose sensitive values, use HTTPS or WSS as BrowserCat directs and avoid sharing credential-bearing URLs.
Rule out browser-engine incompatibility
BrowserCat’s browser-type documentation says sessions currently use Chromium-based browsers; Chromium and Chrome are supported, while Firefox and WebKit are listed as coming soon on the documentation checked October 3, 2026. Test with the documented Chromium path before attributing the failure to an unsupported engine. Availability can change; consult the current BrowserCat browser types page.
