Use Playwright’s iPhone 15 device profile to emulate a mobile browser, then call page.screenshot(). The result is an iPhone 15-profile screenshot—not proof of how the page renders on a physical iPhone 15. The profile’s exact settings depend on the Playwright version installed in your project.
Set up an iPhone 15 Playwright project
Playwright device profiles simulate browser characteristics such as viewport, screen size, user agent and touch support. The official CLI guide includes an iPhone 15 device option, and Playwright Test projects can use the corresponding preset from devices when it exists in the installed release. See Playwright’s emulation guide and CLI device configuration.

Install Playwright Test if it is not already a project dependency:

});Device registry entries can change between versions. If devices['iPhone 15'] is missing, check the installed package’s device registry and update Playwright if appropriate. Do not assume a particular viewport, screen size, user agent or device scale factor without checking that release.
Capture the mobile page
Put a test in a file such as tests/capture.spec.ts. Replace the example URL with your site:

npx playwright test --project="iPhone 15"By default, page.screenshot() captures the visible viewport. Set fullPage: true to capture the full scrollable document, as documented in the Page API:

Viewport or full page
- Viewport: omit
fullPageor set it tofalseto capture what is visible in the emulated browser viewport. - Full page: set
fullPage: trueto capture the full scrollable page. This can produce a much taller image than the viewport capture.
For pages that load images or other content as you scroll, check the output: a full-page option does not by itself establish that every page-specific lazy-loading behavior has completed before capture.

CSS pixels or device pixels
The Page API’s scale option controls image density. 'css' produces one image pixel per CSS pixel; 'device' produces one image pixel per device pixel and can result in larger screenshots. The documented default is 'device'. Specify the scale when output dimensions or file size need to be predictable:

});Use the same scale for screenshots you intend to compare. Otherwise, pixel dimensions can differ even when the page content is similar.
Use the CLI for a quick manual capture
If you want to open a page interactively rather than create a Playwright Test project, the current CLI configuration guide shows this device option:
playwright-cli open https://example.com --device="iPhone 15"The CLI documentation describes opening with a device profile; use the screenshot workflow supported by the CLI version you have installed if you need to save an image. For repeatable automated captures, the Playwright Test example above makes the project and screenshot path explicit.

Make screenshots useful for visual comparisons
A device preset controls only part of the rendering environment. Playwright warns that screenshot rendering can vary with host operating system, browser version, settings, hardware, power source and headless mode. For visual regression checks, generate baselines and comparison screenshots in the same environment and hold these choices constant:
- Installed Playwright version and device preset.
- Browser engine and version, along with headless mode.
- Host operating system and rendering environment.
- Viewport versus full-page capture.
- Screenshot scale.
See Playwright’s visual comparison guidance and its browser and device project documentation. Selecting the same preset does not guarantee byte-for-byte or pixel-identical output across different machines.
Know what the emulation does—and does not—show
Describe the output as an “iPhone 15 emulation with Playwright” or an “iPhone 15-profile screenshot.” The device profile simulates selected browser characteristics; it does not establish that a physical iPhone 15 running Safari will render the page identically. If a bug depends on actual iOS or Safari behavior, check it separately on a real device.
The exact preset values are version-sensitive. Consult the device entry in the Playwright package installed in your project before relying on numeric viewport, screen, user-agent or scale details.

Troubleshoot common capture problems
The iPhone 15 preset is undefined
Cause: The installed Playwright release may not include a device entry with that name, or the project may import devices from a different package than the one installed.
Fix: Confirm the installed Playwright version and inspect its device registry. Use the matching preset only if available; otherwise update the dependency or select an available profile. Avoid copying numeric values from another release without checking them.
The screenshot is only the top of the page
Cause: Viewport-only capture is the default.
Fix: Pass fullPage: true to page.screenshot(). If content is still missing, verify that the page has loaded the relevant content before capturing.
The image dimensions or file size changed
Cause: The screenshot may use a different scale, or a device-pixel capture may contain more pixels than a CSS-pixel capture.

Fix: Set scale: 'css' or scale: 'device' explicitly and keep it consistent across captures. Check the installed device preset and Playwright version if dimensions differ unexpectedly.
Visual comparisons differ between runs or machines
Cause: Rendering can vary with the operating system, browser version, settings, hardware, power source and headless mode.
Fix: Run baseline generation and comparisons in a stable, consistent environment; keep browser, device profile, capture extent and scale the same.
The result does not match a real iPhone
Cause: Playwright’s device profile is an emulation, not a physical-device capture.
