To fix YouTube Live stream buffering from an OVHcloud VPS, first determine whether the stream is failing on the way from OBS to YouTube or only buffering for viewers. Check OBS’s dropped-frame counter and connection status alongside YouTube Live Control Room’s stream health and error messages. Then measure sustained outbound capacity from the actual VPS, leave headroom above the total stream bitrate, and adjust encoder or latency settings based on what the evidence shows. Buffering alone does not prove a general OVHcloud or YouTube network fault in India.
First locate where the stream is buffering
A YouTube live stream has two network legs: the encoder sends video to YouTube’s ingest service, and YouTube delivers the broadcast to viewers. Diagnose the leg showing trouble before changing settings.
If OBS reports dropped frames or disconnects
Watch OBS’s network dropped-frame counter and connection status during a controlled test. Increasing network drops or repeated disconnections point to a problem sustaining the configured bitrate or maintaining the connection to ingest. OBS’s stream connection troubleshooting guide describes dropped frames as a sign of an unstable connection or one that cannot sustain the configured bitrate.
If YouTube reports an ingest error
Open the YouTube Live Control Room and inspect stream health and its time-stamped messages. YouTube’s live error guide covers errors including inadequate bandwidth, incorrect bitrate and keyframes sent too infrequently. Address the specific message rather than treating all buffering as the same fault.

If only viewers report buffering
If OBS stays connected and YouTube’s source health is clean, ask whether the problem affects all viewers or only particular networks, devices or locations. Viewer-side interruption may involve playback conditions or the selected latency mode, not the VPS’s outbound feed. These indicators help narrow the issue; none alone establishes a provider-wide network fault.
Measure sustained upload capacity from the VPS
Test from the actual VPS that runs OBS or the encoder. A plan’s advertised port speed, a brief speed-test peak, or a test from your own computer does not establish sustained throughput from that instance to YouTube’s ingest service. Repeat measurements at representative times and, when possible, test a route relevant to the destination.

YouTube recommends keeping 20% additional upload bandwidth beyond the total bitrate of the stream; account for primary and backup streams if both are in use. For example, a single stream configured at 10 Mbps calls for at least 12 Mbps of available upload capacity under that recommendation. This is headroom guidance, not a guarantee that any route will hold steady at that rate. YouTube also warns that sharing a connection can reduce capacity available to the stream. See YouTube’s streaming tips.
OVHcloud documents several diagnostic tools in its network tools guide: Looking Glass for route and traceroute checks, Proof for speed tests, Smokeping for ICMP reachability, latency and path history, and Weathermap for backbone link load. Use them as supporting evidence alongside measurements from the VPS itself; a probe may not follow the instance’s exact path to YouTube.

Match encoder settings to the measured connection
Set the resolution, frame rate, codec and bitrate for the format you intend to broadcast and the sustained connection you measured. YouTube’s current encoder settings guidance gives recommended bitrates by codec, resolution and frame rate. For H.264, its examples include 10 Mbps for 1080p30 and 17 Mbps for 1080p60. These are encoder recommendations, not evidence that a particular VPS route can sustain those rates. Check the current table for your exact format before setting the encoder.
YouTube lists RTMP and RTMPS as ingest protocols, along with H.264, H.265 and AV1 ingest options; it recommends RTMPS for encrypted transport. Use the protocol and codec supported by your encoder and the YouTube setup in use. Do not increase bitrate simply to chase perceived quality if the measured path cannot sustain it: lower the bitrate or resolution and test again.

Great for router-to-PC connections, modem-to-TV setups, gaming consoles, workstations, printers and other home network equipment that needs a longer Ethernet cable.
Verify keyframes and stream-health messages
Read YouTube’s Live Control Room messages after each test change. Its error guidance says that keyframes sent too infrequently can cause buffering and that an incorrect bitrate can interfere with transcoding and delivery. If the dashboard identifies a keyframe problem, correct the encoder’s keyframe interval to match YouTube’s current guidance for the selected setup, then run another test. Avoid changing several unrelated parameters at once; otherwise it becomes harder to identify what fixed or worsened the stream.
Test with representative content
YouTube advises testing before broadcast with representative movement and audio, then monitoring stream health. A static screen may be less demanding than the actual programme. Test the same resolution, frame rate, codec, audio and scene complexity you plan to use live, and observe the stream long enough to distinguish sustained performance from a short successful connection.

Choose a latency mode that fits the broadcast
YouTube explains that read-ahead buffering is a major source of live latency: less buffer reduces delay but makes playback more sensitive to variability between the encoder and viewer. For non-interactive broadcasts, YouTube recommends normal latency and describes it as the option with the lowest viewer buffering. Low latency can suit some interaction, while ultra-low latency targets real-time interaction and may increase buffering. Choose the lowest latency that the audience interaction genuinely requires, rather than selecting the fastest mode by default. See YouTube’s latency guidance.
YouTube says most viewers on low latency experience latency under 10 seconds, and most on ultra-low latency under five seconds. These are descriptions of latency modes, not guarantees of connection speed or uninterrupted playback.
Verify the VPS region and route instead of assuming the server is in India
OVHcloud’s India VPS page says it has no datacentres in India and serves the market from nearby regions. Confirm the selected VPS’s actual physical region rather than assuming an India-located server from the plan or storefront. The page lists plan-level bandwidth and traffic terms, with Asia-Pacific exceptions in those details; check the current terms for the chosen region at order time because product information can change.
Plan bandwidth describes a product offering, not stable performance to YouTube’s ingest service. When evaluating a region or VPS provider, compare the verified physical region, measured route to the ingest endpoint, sustained outbound performance at the time of use, and applicable plan terms. Available information does not establish a best provider or region for every YouTube route. Buying hosting is not, by itself, a demonstrated fix for buffering.

Or let it run in the cloud
If the real goal is keeping uploaded videos live on a YouTube channel around the clock, StreamNeo is a separate cloud option rather than a fix for a particular VPS route. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live; StreamNeo loops the uploaded videos from the cloud, so your computer and home connection do not have to stay on. It supports the uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, with automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card required. Monthly access is $9.99 per month. StreamNeo plays uploaded video to YouTube; it does not stream from a camera. Learn more at StreamNeo, or start the free first day.
