YouTube says creators receive 70% of Super Chat and Super Sticker revenue confirmed by Google. That share is calculated after local sales tax and, for iOS purchases, App Store fees are deducted. So “YouTube keeps 30%” is shorthand for the remaining share of that confirmed-revenue base—not necessarily 30% of the viewer’s full payment.
What the 70% rule means
YouTube’s official Help page, “Manage YouTube Super Chat & Super Stickers for Live Chat,” states that creators receive 70% of Supers revenue confirmed by Google. YouTube’s partner earnings overview describes the share as 70% of net revenue from Super Chat and related products.

The calculation starts with the revenue YouTube confirms, not automatically with the amount a viewer sees or pays. The public guidance does not provide an India-specific rupee example or establish a different revenue-share percentage for Indian creators.
Which deductions affect the calculation?
- Local sales tax: YouTube says local sales tax is deducted before calculating the 70% share. Its partner earnings overview explains that transaction taxes, such as sales tax, VAT, or GST, are not revenue to Google and are excluded from the partner revenue-share calculation.
- iOS App Store fees: YouTube specifically says App Store fees on iOS are deducted before applying the share.
- Transaction costs: YouTube says it currently covers transaction costs, including credit-card fees.
These rules identify the kinds of deductions that can affect the revenue base, but they do not show the actual confirmed-revenue amount for an individual Indian purchase. Without that amount and the purchase’s tax and billing details, multiplying a displayed rupee amount by 70% would not establish the creator’s payout.

Does the purchase route change an Indian creator’s share?
YouTube’s published guidance gives no India-specific payout calculation by purchase route. It says some new Super Chat and Super Sticker purchases made in the Android app may be billed through Google Play, with no change to the price or cost, only the billing source. The revenue-share guidance specifically names App Store fees for iOS; it does not state a numerical India-specific deduction for Android purchases.
That means the available public information is not enough to calculate or compare the confirmed revenue for a particular web, Android, or iOS purchase in India. Do not assume that the displayed purchase price is the base to which YouTube applies 70%.

How to check your own Super Chat revenue
- Check the revenue report: Open YouTube Analytics and review the Super Chat revenue report for the transactions and reporting period you want to understand.
- Check your agreement: Review the applicable agreement in YouTube Studio. YouTube says fan-funding features are covered by the Commerce Product Module or an earlier Commerce Product Addendum.
- Keep the figures separate: Treat the platform’s reported Super Chat revenue share separately from any taxes you may owe where you live.
Eligibility is separate from the revenue share
YouTube’s fan-funding conditions include being at least 18, living in a country or region where Super Chat and Super Stickers are available, and accepting the Commerce Product Module or an earlier Commerce Product Addendum. Meeting those conditions concerns access to the features; it does not turn the 70% share into a guaranteed percentage of a viewer’s full payment.
Creator taxes are a separate question
YouTube’s platform revenue-share calculation is not the same as your personal tax calculation. YouTube’s general guidance requires YouTube Partner Program creators to provide tax information, but the public pages cited here do not establish an individual Indian creator’s income-tax or GST treatment. For your own filing obligations, use guidance applicable to your circumstances rather than treating YouTube’s 70% figure as take-home income.
