To show Super Chat alerts on an OBS-powered YouTube loop stream, first confirm that your channel and the specific stream are eligible, then enable Super Chat in YouTube Studio, connect an alert integration such as Streamlabs, and add its current alert widget to the OBS scene. Super Chat eligibility comes from YouTube; the on-screen alert is a separate overlay supplied by the integration.
Check that Super Chat is available
Confirm channel eligibility
Your channel must meet YouTube’s fan-funding requirements, be in a location where the feature is available, and accept and comply with the applicable terms and policies. Check the Earn area in YouTube Studio for Supers availability before configuring an alert service. YouTube’s Super Chat and Super Stickers eligibility, availability, and policies explain the requirements.
Check the individual live stream
Even when a channel is eligible, Super Chat is unavailable on age-restricted, unlisted, private, Made for Kids, and YouTube Giving fundraiser videos. Turning off live chat or comments also disables Super Chat. Looping a video does not by itself establish eligibility or disqualify a stream; the channel and stream settings determine availability.
Enable Super Chat and connect an alert integration
- Enable Supers in YouTube Studio. In the channel’s YouTube Studio, use the Earn area to check availability and enable the fan-funding feature when offered. Confirm that Super Chat is available before setting up a third-party overlay.
- Link the channel to Streamlabs. YouTube’s documented Streamlabs route uses Google Sign-In. Sign in through the provider’s documented flow, follow the prompts to link the YouTube channel, then configure widgets and alerts in Streamlabs. See YouTube’s instructions for third-party integrations with Super Chat and channel memberships.
- Get the current alert widget details from the integration. Use the widget instructions and URL shown by the connected alert service. Add the widget to the OBS scene used for the loop stream, following the service’s current instructions.
The reviewed YouTube documentation does not specify today’s exact Streamlabs widget URL or OBS source fields. Interface labels and settings can change, so use the current instructions in the connected service rather than copying unverified menu names or values. YouTube’s monetization guidance for live streams covers live-stream monetization and encoder context, but it does not provide those overlay-specific OBS settings.

Verify the chat and overlay separately
Super Chats appear in YouTube live chat; the alert widget is a separate on-stream display. If the integration offers a test function, use it to check the overlay, and verify that live chat is available on the stream. YouTube’s documentation does not describe a test-purchase procedure, so do not assume a test purchase is necessary or available.
Viewers send Super Chats through YouTube live chat. Live chat appears on YouTube watch pages, not in embedded players; see YouTube’s overview of live streams. YouTube says creators receive 70% of Supers revenue confirmed by Google after local sales tax and iOS App Store fees are deducted. Choose an integration that supports the alert you need
Streamlabs is the integration YouTube specifically documents for setting up Super Chat widgets and alerts. Other named tools do not necessarily serve the same purpose: YouTube lists StreamElements for overlays and live alerts recognizing channel members, and IFTTT for Super Chat-triggered interactions, but the cited guidance does not establish IFTTT as an OBS on-screen alert solution. YouTube also describes its Live Chat API as a route for external tools to read and moderate chat and display Super Chats. A custom API integration is a separate, more technical approach. - For a ready-made overlay, start with an integration whose current documentation explicitly supports YouTube Super Chat.
- For a custom display or moderation workflow, evaluate whether a Live Chat API integration meets your technical and operational needs.
- Review the provider’s terms and account permissions before linking it. YouTube notes that third-party tools are not made or endorsed by Google; you can remove a third-party app’s Google Account access. Never share your Google password outside the provider’s documented sign-in flow.
