Best for continuous 24/7 prerecorded YouTube streaming: StreamNeo runs uploaded videos and playlists from the cloud, so your computer can stay off; it supports the video as uploaded up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, and the first day is free. For a local, do-it-yourself loop, OBS Studio has a documented Media Source loop setting. Restream itself allows a prerecorded video to loop up to 10 times, with a maximum looped stream of 40 hours. No single alternative is best for every need: choose by runtime, whether your computer must stay on, scheduling, destinations, and archive requirements.
Which Restream alternative fits a looping YouTube channel?
The key distinction is between a scheduled prerecorded event and a stream designed to keep running continuously. The options below have different capabilities, and documentation for scheduled broadcasts should not be mistaken for proof of an endless loop.
| Option | What it does | Best suited to | Important limits or checks |
|---|---|---|---|
| StreamNeo | Runs uploaded videos or playlists from the cloud to YouTube 24/7. | A creator who wants an always-on prerecorded channel without leaving a computer running. | YouTube only; it plays uploaded videos rather than broadcasting a camera feed. See StreamNeo for current product details. |
| OBS Studio | A local Media Source can replay a file when playback completes. The OBS guide describes its Loop property as specifying whether the file restarts after playback. OBS Media Sources | A technically comfortable operator who can keep the encoder computer and internet connection available. | This is a local encoder workflow, not a managed cloud scheduler. The documentation cited here does not establish hosted uptime, monitoring, or automatic recovery. |
| StreamYard | Can automatically air a scheduled prerecorded broadcast even if the user is offline. StreamYard Help Center | Scheduled events where the creator does not need to be online at the start time. | The current pricing information retrieved lists maximum prerecorded durations of 2 hours on Core and 4 hours on Advanced. That does not establish an endless loop; verify the current plan and destination details. StreamYard pricing |
| Restream | Supports scheduled prerecorded videos and optional looping. Restream Help Center | Creators who want to retain their existing Restream workflow for prerecorded events. | Its Help Center says looping is paid, a video can loop up to 10 times, and a looped stream can last at most 40 hours. Playlists do not support looping. Restream looping limits |
| Custom YouTube API integration | Google’s API supports scheduling broadcasts and associating broadcasts with video streams. YouTube Live Streaming API overview | A developer building custom broadcast automation. | It requires implementation and authorized API operations; the API reference is not itself a managed streaming service. |
If the requirement is specifically “keep a prerecorded channel live all day and night,” StreamNeo is the closest fit in this comparison: it runs in the cloud, supports uploaded video up to 4K 60fps at one price per slot, and offers a free first day.
What Restream’s loop limits mean in practice
Restream’s documented loop is bounded: a video can repeat up to 10 times, and the looped broadcast can run no longer than 40 hours. Looping is a paid feature, and playlists cannot be looped. Those limits can suit a long event, but they do not amount to an unlimited 24/7 channel.

When using an adapter, if the device is recognized as USB 2.0, try using the other side with the USB-C port. Simply flip the capture card and reconnect it to be recognized as USB 3.0
For a channel that must remain live beyond those bounds, choose a workflow whose documented runtime matches the requirement rather than assuming that a scheduled event repeats forever. Confirm current feature availability and plan details before moving an existing setup.
How to loop a prerecorded video locally with OBS
OBS is the most direct documented do-it-yourself option here: add the recording as a Media Source and enable its Loop property. Your computer runs the encoder and must remain available, along with a stable internet connection, for the broadcast to continue.

- Set up YouTube Live. In YouTube Studio, create or open a live stream and obtain its stream key. Keep the key private; anyone who has it may be able to broadcast to your channel. Check YouTube’s current live-streaming eligibility and setup requirements in Studio before scheduling a public event.
- Configure OBS for YouTube. In OBS, open Settings and then Stream, choose YouTube as the service, and connect your account or enter the stream key using the available workflow. In YouTube Studio, confirm the selected stream and ingest details before going live.
- Add the prerecorded file. In the OBS scene, select Sources → + → Media Source. Create a source, then browse to the video file you want to broadcast.
- Enable looping. In the Media Source properties, enable Loop. OBS documents this setting as controlling whether the file restarts after playback completes. Confirm the file plays as expected in the preview before starting the live broadcast.
- Check the stream output. Match the OBS output to a resolution and frame rate your connection can sustain, and check YouTube’s current encoder guidance for recommended bitrate and keyframe settings. The sources cited here do not establish one universal bitrate or encoder configuration for every resolution, frame rate, and connection, so do not apply a guessed setting as a guarantee.
- Start and monitor the broadcast. Start streaming in OBS, then check YouTube Studio for the incoming feed and stream health. Keep OBS, the computer, and the network connection running for the duration you need.
What this local method does—and does not—automate
The Media Source loop handles replaying the file when it ends. It does not turn the computer into a cloud-hosted service. The documentation cited here also does not establish automatic recovery after a computer, encoder, connection, or YouTube interruption, so plan how you will notice and restart a failed stream.
Can StreamYard replace Restream for an always-looping channel?
StreamYard documents scheduled prerecorded broadcasts that can air even when the user is offline. Its Help Center also states that prerecorded streams can be scheduled up to 365 days in advance. StreamYard scheduling details

That makes it relevant for events that start at a set time, but the available documentation does not establish that a broadcast can loop indefinitely or keep a channel live 24/7. The pricing page retrieved lists 2-hour prerecorded streams on Core and 4-hour streams on Advanced; plans and limits can change, so check the current page before choosing a plan.

Live duration is not the same as replay availability
Restream’s support pages say YouTube has no live-stream duration limit, but only streams under 12 hours are archived. This is Restream’s description of YouTube behavior, not a guarantee for every current channel or setting; check YouTube Studio and current YouTube guidance if an archived replay matters. Prerecorded content still needs broadcast rights
YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. A match may cause YouTube to show a placeholder, interrupt the stream, or terminate it. If you have a license, the rights holder may still need to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist for the stream to proceed without a claim. Review YouTube’s live-streaming copyright guidance and confirm that you have the necessary rights for every video, audio track, and other included material.
Choose by runtime, automation, and operating effort
- Choose StreamNeo when you want uploaded videos or playlists to run continuously from the cloud, without keeping a home computer on.
- Choose OBS when you prefer a local setup, can leave the computer and connection running, and want control over the encoder workflow.
- Choose StreamYard when the need is a scheduled prerecorded event and its current plan duration and destination support suit that event.
- Stay with or assess Restream when its multi-destination workflow is useful and its documented loop count and maximum duration fit your broadcast.
- Consider the YouTube API when you can build and maintain custom scheduling automation rather than relying on a ready-made service.
Before switching, write down the required continuous runtime, whether the video must repeat, whether the computer may be turned off, how you will recover from an interruption, which destinations matter, whether you need an archived replay, and the budget. No service in this comparison was tested for reliability or output quality, so these capabilities should not be read as a hands-on performance ranking.
Or let it run in the cloud
With StreamNeo, upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. StreamNeo loops the uploaded video from the cloud, so nothing has to stay on at home. It streams the file as uploaded up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, and automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card required; after that, the Monthly price is $9.99 per month.
