Capture each page at a consistent size, record its URL and capture date, then arrange the selected screenshots in a clearly labeled PDF. Check the exported file at normal viewing size before sending it. This approach preserves how pages looked in the browser; if the client needs a text-focused printable document instead, use a web-page-to-PDF conversion workflow.
Plan the portfolio before capturing pages
Agree on scope and purpose
Decide which pages belong in the portfolio and what the client should use it for: design or content review, competitor reference, quality assurance, or before-and-after evidence. Ask whether the client needs a visual record of the rendered page or a text-oriented document designed for printing. Confirm that you have permission to capture and share any private, unpublished, or client-owned pages.
Choose a consistent capture context
For comparisons, use the same browser, viewport width, zoom level, and device mode for each page. Capture desktop and mobile separately when responsive layouts matter. Record the actual URL, date, and viewport or device context. Note relevant page state—such as an expanded accordion or selected pricing tab—when it affects what the screenshot shows.
Capture complete pages in Chrome
A standard viewport screenshot only records what is visible on screen. To document below-the-fold content, use Chrome DevTools’ full-page screenshot workflow. Chrome also documents capturing a specific node; node captures can include content below the viewport. DevTools labels and layout can change, so consult the current Chrome DevTools documentation if the controls differ from the instructions you have.

Chrome for Developers describes full-page capture in 4 ways to capture screenshots with DevTools. The node-capture capability is described in the historical Chrome 89 DevTools guidance, What’s New In DevTools (Chrome 89); its interface may have changed since that release.
- Open the page in Chrome and let its content finish loading. If the page uses lazy-loaded images or interactive sections, scroll through or activate the relevant content before capture as needed.
- Open DevTools and use the command menu to find the full-size screenshot command. Review the resulting image to confirm it includes the intended page from top to bottom.
- For one large page section rather than the whole page, inspect the page in the Elements panel, select the relevant node, and use DevTools’ node screenshot option where available.
- Save each image with a useful, consistent filename, such as client-project-page-name-desktop-2026-10-03.png. Keep the page URL, capture date, viewport or device, and any important page-state note in your index or working notes.
A full-page screenshot preserves visual continuity, but a very tall, narrow image can be difficult to read on a standard PDF page. For long text-heavy pages, consider separate captures of meaningful sections, a multi-page layout, or direct web-page-to-PDF conversion instead.

Assemble the screenshots into a client-ready PDF
Use a document editor or PDF editor to place the selected images in the order the client should review them. Keep margins and image fitting consistent, and avoid shrinking captures so much that their text becomes unreadable.
- Cover: Include the client or project name, review purpose, preparer, and preparation date.
- Contents or page index: List the page titles and URLs, grouped by section if that helps the client navigate.
- Capture pages: Put one capture on each page when legibility allows, or group related section captures. Add a clear page title or label.
- Annotations: Add brief notes on what the client should review. Separate observed details from recommendations.
- Closing summary: Include key findings or next steps only if they are part of the engagement.
- Export: Export one PDF, then verify the final page count and order.
If you want to convert a live web page directly rather than assemble screenshot images, Adobe documents that option in Convert web pages to PDFs in Acrobat on desktop. Direct conversion and screenshot-based export are different approaches: conversion produces a document-style PDF, while screenshots are intended to retain the rendered visual appearance. The best fit depends on whether visual fidelity or printable, flowing text matters more.

Check the PDF before delivery
Open the exported PDF on a typical laptop screen and inspect every page, not just the cover. Check that each capture contains the intended top and bottom, text is readable at normal zoom, sticky elements are not duplicated in a confusing way, and page boundaries do not obscure the point being shown. Confirm labels, filenames, URL and date notes, page order, and final page count.
Very long captures can run into browser or tool limits. FullPage Capture states that Chrome’s canvas limit is “28,800 px per side or ~259 million pixels of area”; that is the vendor’s stated product limitation, not a universal guarantee for all browsers, systems, or capture tools. Its Help & FAQ provides the claim, and its PDF Export With Smart Page Breaks page describes that vendor’s PDF formats and page-break features. Those feature descriptions are vendor claims, not independent comparative testing. If a capture is truncated or split, reduce the capture to meaningful sections and inspect each exported part.
Before sharing, remove unrelated tabs, account details, or personal information from captures. For confidential client work, use an approved sharing channel.

Common problems and fixes
- The screenshot stops at the visible screen: Use DevTools’ full-page capture instead of an ordinary viewport screenshot.
- Images or sections are missing: Wait for the page to load, scroll to trigger lazy content, and activate any sections that should appear in the record before capturing.
- The screenshot is too tall to read in the PDF: Split it into logical sections or use a multi-page arrangement. If the need is a text-focused printable document, use direct web-page conversion.
- The image is cut off or divided into pieces: The capture may have exceeded a tool or browser limit. Capture smaller sections and review each result before assembly.
- Pages are hard to compare: Recapture with a consistent browser, viewport, zoom, and device mode; record any unavoidable differences in the index.
- The client cannot tell what a page shows: Add a page label, title, URL, date, and concise review note rather than delivering an unexplained sequence of images.
