You can grow a 24/7 YouTube lofi stream without using music you lack rights to: use your own compositions, commission music under a written agreement, or choose tracks whose terms expressly allow continuous YouTube livestreaming and monetization. YouTube’s Audio Library is a clear free starting point: YouTube says its music and sound effects are copyright-safe on YouTube, but Creative Commons tracks require the supplied attribution. Then give the station a distinct sound, visual identity, and reason for listeners to return. Rights clearance does not guarantee monetization or audience growth.
Choose music that is actually cleared for a continuous live stream
A track being labelled “royalty-free,” having a credit in the description, or being licensed for ordinary video use does not establish that you may loop it in a continuous livestream. Check the terms for the use you intend before building the station around a track.

| YouTube Audio Library | YouTube Help says Audio Library music and sound effects are copyright-safe on YouTube and will not be claimed by a rights holder through Content ID. Tracks marked Creative Commons require the supplied attribution in the video description; tracks marked as not requiring attribution have a different listed requirement. | Check the individual track’s license and attribution field in YouTube Studio. YouTube says new Audio Library releases are added twice monthly. Its assurance is specific to the Audio Library; YouTube does not take responsibility for problems arising from “royalty-free” music from other channels or libraries. |
| Your own compositions | Writing and recording the music yourself gives you a direct route to a distinctive catalog, provided you control the rights in every element. | Check samples, loops, vocals, and other incorporated material against their licenses. Keep project files and a track-by-track rights record; making a beat yourself does not clear material you did not create or license. |
| Commissioned or external-catalog music | A written grant from the relevant rights holder can authorize the uses it actually covers. No general permission for any unnamed catalog is established here. | Get express terms for continuous livestreaming, looping, monetization, territory, and recording or archived playback. Ask about Content ID allowlisting and how claims will be resolved. Keep the signed agreement, invoice, license version, track identifiers, and download dates. |
| YouTube Creator Music | YouTube’s Creator Music usage guidance says tracks offered for licensing or revenue sharing may be used in long-form videos, not live streams. | Do not treat a Creator Music license or revenue-sharing option as permission for a live broadcast. Check current terms for any other intended use. |
For external music, ask the rights holder to confirm in writing that the grant applies to your channel and intended broadcast, not just to an uploaded video. If you plan to publish recordings or archives, include those uses in the request. Keep the documentation accessible while the stream is running so you can respond promptly if a claim appears.
How to use YouTube Audio Library music
- Open YouTube Studio and go to the Audio Library.
- Search by title, artist, or keyword, or narrow results using the genre, mood, duration, and attribution filters.
- Open each candidate track’s details and check its listed attribution requirement. Do not infer that every track has the same terms.
- For a Creative Commons track, copy YouTube’s supplied attribution text into the live stream’s description. For a track marked as not requiring attribution, follow the requirement shown for that track.
- Keep a record of the selected tracks and their listed terms with the playlist or mix you assemble.
The Audio Library is a platform-specific option, not a blanket clearance for music found elsewhere. YouTube specifically cautions that it is not responsible for issues involving “royalty-free” music from other channels or libraries.

Separate music rights from monetization eligibility
A license answers whether you have permission to use music; it does not decide whether YouTube will consider your channel eligible for monetization. YouTube’s channel monetization policies apply to live streams as well as Shorts and long-form videos. The policy says content should be original and authentic, and identifies repetitive, mass-produced, generic, or reused material as potential problems. It also says reused-content review is separate from copyright enforcement and can apply even if you have permission from the original creator.
That distinction matters for a 24/7 music station. A playlist of cleared tracks may avoid a music-rights problem but still leave the channel looking generic or minimally differentiated. Build recognizable creative authorship into the station: select and sequence music deliberately, use original visual design, and make the channel’s purpose and community visible. YouTube’s policy page records a July 15, 2025 update clarifying that repetitive or mass-produced material is addressed under “inauthentic content”; the page says the reused-content policy did not change in that update. Check the current Studio Earn interface for your channel’s eligibility and available features.

Give listeners a specific reason to return
“Lofi radio” describes a format, not a promise that makes one station memorable. Define who the stream is for and what listening moment it serves, then make the music, title, artwork, and chat programming reinforce that promise. For example, a station might focus on warm jazz-hop for late-night coding or rain-backed beats for exam sessions. Those are positioning examples, not claims that either niche guarantees growth.
Make the station recognizable
- Choose a narrow mood, activity, or sound and keep the music selection consistent with it.
- Create an original visual world that can be recognized at a glance. Do not copy another channel’s artwork, character, or branding.
- Sequence energy intentionally. Listen for abrupt transitions, dead air, loudness jumps, and an awkward end-to-start seam before making a mix continuous.
Make the live page feel active
- Use recurring chat prompts, mood requests, featured producers, or announcements about new mixes to give listeners ways to participate.
- Identify artists and tracks in the description and explain who the station is for. Credits help listeners find musicians, but they do not replace permission.
- Publish shorter uploads or discovery clips as additional ways for people to encounter the channel beyond its permanent live page.
Set honest expectations
Clear titles and descriptions help people understand the stream’s use case and format. State whether the music is owned or licensed, identify the artists and tracks where appropriate, and avoid implying that a rights credit alone makes a track safe. There is no established growth statistic or schedule that can responsibly promise a subscriber, watch-time, or monetization result for this format.

Prepare the continuous stream before launch
Whether you host the encoder yourself or use a cloud service, test the broadcast before relying on it around the clock. Rights clearance and technical continuity are separate jobs: a stable stream does not prove that its music is cleared, and a music license does not keep an encoder connected.
- Build the track-level rights record. Record each track, the rights holder or source, the applicable license or Audio Library attribution rule, and where the supporting document is stored. Keep original project files for music you made.
- Assemble and listen through the playlist. Check transitions, audio consistency, quiet gaps, loudness changes, and the loop seam from the final track back to the first.
- Run an unlisted rehearsal. Check playback on desktop and mobile, inspect YouTube’s stream-health information, and verify that the stream behaves as intended before making it public.
- Choose an operating method. A self-hosted setup requires an encoder machine to remain running. A cloud streaming service can remove that particular need, but does not grant music rights or ensure channel growth.
- Keep recovery information and rights records handy. If a stream interruption or music claim occurs, you need to be able to identify the track, review the permission, and take the appropriate action.
Do not rely on old encoder recommendations for bitrate, resolution, or other stream settings without checking YouTube’s current live-stream guidance. The available source material does not establish exact encoder values for this article; use the current settings YouTube presents for your channel, encoder, and intended stream quality.
