What’s actually slowing this PC down?

Capture each competitor search results page with the same query, location, language, device, search engine, and time context, then save the full relevant page with a log of those settings. A SERP screenshot is visual evidence of what appeared in one search at one moment—not a universal ranking or a record of a competitor’s private analytics.
Set up a repeatable capture
- Fix the query. Record the exact keyword as entered, including spelling and language. Keep the wording unchanged between comparison runs.
- Choose the location scope. State whether you are examining India generally or a specific city or region. For a local education market, use the relevant location if your capture method supports it; an India-wide view is not a stand-in for every city.
- Record the search context. Note the search engine, search language, device (mobile or desktop), location, and capture date and time with time zone. Keep them consistent when comparing competitors or dates.
- Capture the relevant page in full. Include visible organic results, ads, and features such as image or video modules and question panels when present. A cropped first screen can omit important context. Check whether the image actually includes the whole area you intend to compare.
- Name and log the file. Use a filename that includes the query, location, device, date/time, and project or client. In a capture log, record those fields plus the method used and notes about unusual features or a partial capture.
- Repeat under matched conditions. Use the same settings for each competitor or comparison date. If a setting changes, label the change so it is not mistaken for competitor movement.
For exact rank history or machine-readable result URLs and positions, keep a structured tracking record alongside the screenshot. The image is a visual artifact, not a complete data table.
Why location, language, and device belong in the log
SerpObserver’s vendor-authored India rank-tracking guide says manual results can be affected by location, device, and search history. It notes that incognito mode addresses some personalization, but not location or device, and describes setting target city, device, and language for tracking. The guide also distinguishes Search Console’s country-level reporting from city-level on-demand checks. These are vendor recommendations, not an independent study; see SerpObserver’s India ranking setup guide.
For Indian education queries, record the intended audience context with each image. A prospective-student search in a particular city may not match an India-wide view, and desktop and mobile should be treated as separate captures. Even carefully matched manual searches do not prove what every prospective student sees.

How to compare the captured results
Compare only captures with matching query, location, language, device, search engine, and time context. For each one, note the visible competitor domains and landing-page URLs, their order, paid placements, and prominent SERP features.
| Comparison field | What to record |
|---|---|
| Audience context | Target Indian city or region and search language |
| Search setup | Search engine and desktop or mobile device |
| Timing | Capture date and time with time zone; repeat interval for a series |
| Organic results | Visible order, competitor domain, and landing-page URL |
| Other placements | Ads and prominent features such as image/video modules or question panels |
| Evidence quality | Capture method and whether the relevant page is complete or partial |
Visible order describes a result page at a particular moment. It is not a permanent or universal ranking. If you compare screenshots captured under different locations or devices, report that difference rather than attributing every change to the competitor.

What screenshots can—and cannot—tell you
Google URL Inspection
Google’s URL Inspection documentation describes screenshots of a page retrieved by Google in a crawl view or live test. That is a rendering of a page, not a screenshot of a competitor’s Google results page.
Search Console
Google Search Console’s performance reports cover Search performance for the property you have access to, including clicks, impressions, CTR, and some query or position information, with filters such as country and device. The Search Console performance documentation explains that the data is limited to links pointing to the current property. It cannot disclose another site’s private performance metrics. Use it for your own verified property; use SERP captures or an appropriate public rank-tracking method for competitor research.

Capture methods and tool checks
A browser-based capture is sufficient for a small, manually documented comparison if it can save the relevant full page. One Chrome Web Store listing describes SERPshot as supporting full-page Google and Bing SERP captures, desktop/mobile screenshots, and metadata such as query, device, country, and timestamp. Those are listing claims, not independent tests. Check the listing’s current status, permissions, features, and Indian locale behavior before relying on it: SERPshot Chrome Web Store listing.
For repeated city-specific checks, a location-aware rank-tracking service may be useful. Verify that a service currently supports the Indian locations, devices, and languages you need. SerpObserver’s guide describes its own suggested settings, but it is vendor-authored and does not establish an independent comparison of rank trackers.

ScreenshotNeo can capture the search results page through a single request. Replace the example URL with the search URL you want to capture and use your ScreenshotNeo API key. See the ScreenshotNeo API documentation for request options.
curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://www.google.com/search?q=engineering+colleges+in+Pune -o shot.webp
ScreenshotNeo removes cookie banners, popups, and chat widgets before capture; bot checks, blank pages, and failed loads are not billed. Its MCP server lets AI agents take screenshots, and the Free plan includes 1,000 screenshots a month with no card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000. These capture controls do not make a screenshot a universal view of search results: continue to log query, location, language, device, engine, and time for meaningful comparisons.

Does an incognito search show exactly what every student in India sees?
No. Incognito mode does not remove location or device differences, and one search cannot represent every prospective student’s results.
